==Main Engineering==
James was working under a console that was next to a jefferies tube access point and as a result only had his lower legs sticking out. He heard the door open and close and thinking it was one of his engineers he spoke. "Can you boost the secondary injectors to 15 percent and hold them there I think I have figured out the reason for the imbalance in the field stabilizers." Said James firmly "Damn yard dogs they put out a ship that they think is ready then leave it to the chief to rebuild the damn engines when they get thrown out of whack." Muttered James he tweeked a couple more connections while waiting for the engineer to make the increase.
Kane shook her head. "It's a good job that we're still powered down in dry dock then," she stepped up to the nearby console. "Boosting the secondary injectors, bringing them to 15 percent."
"That did it.". Said James calmly from inside the Jefferies tube. He grinned to himself "secondary injectors look good we can start taking them to full power as soon as I get this closed up". He added as he started closing things up and wiggling his way out of the tube.
Kane squatted down, so that the Lieutenant could see who he was currently working with. "It's good that we've locked that down. That'll enable us to bring the improved systems online."
"Yes it is commander now when we get the improved systems online I only have to worry about the new bugs and not the pre-existing ones." Said James without missing a beat he was not someone who was easily intimidated by rank and frankly this officer likely had the same feelings for him that he had for her.
"Excellent," Kane replied with a smirk, "it's like the refit's undone most of the work that I put into these systems." She felt like she'd refined a lot of the ships systems while she was the Chief Engineer, and all of these supposed upgrades were playing havoc with it.
"That is probably exactly what happened. my guess would be some busybody from the yard decided that the upgrades you put in were not up to code as it were so they likely yanked them out or bypassed them and went on with the refit. the result is the mess I have unfortunately inherited. But then again I have always liked a challenge and this ship at least from an engineering standpoint is going to be a challenge. Got to see how the refit upgrades will work in the field." Said James calmly he now knew he was talking to the former chief engineer and not a engineer who had never served a day on a starship.
Of course, he wouldn't know that she had been the ships Chief Engineer for nearly two and a half years, prior to her switch back to Ops. It was at this point also, that she also realised that he probably wasn't 100% certain who she even was, and what she was doing in his engine room. She offered him a small smirk, and her hand, both to shake, but primarily to offer to help him get back up from the floor. Not that he probably needed it. "Commander Yvette Kane," she offered as well, "Chief Operations Officer and Second Officer."
" And more importantly for our conversation the former chief engineer of this lady. I knew this ship was different when I signed on but I was not aware just much like a family it might be. Lt. James Wayne chief engineer and apparently your replacement." Said James as he accepted hand up.
"Not exactly," Eve replied. "I left this Engine room about 6 months ago. But this was all mine for two and a half years, so I still feel pretty comfortable here."
"I can imagine. I also imagine that even with the upgrades and everything that is happening you probably know these engines better then just about anyone. I would be happy with any advice you might have and any ideas you want to share." Said James calmly.
Kane nodded, "I'm always available for support Lieutenant." She had to admit, her time aboard the Resolution as it's Chief Engineer was one of her more rewarding experiences in Starfleet. And the Resolution had spent a great deal of time seeking out and meeting new life, and new adventure. Most of her previous postings had been escort vessels and patrol ships, so the fact that the Resolution was a ship of exploration had made - and would continue to make - all the difference. "I'm glad that you're aboard now, as we get to the nitty gritty of the final aspects of the refit."
"Yeah it is good to be aboard commander." Said James calmly as they exited engineering to head to the next problem area.
Yvette joined him on the way out, "so, my last status update suggested that the antimatter injectors on down Deck 41 should be our next port of call."
"Agreed." Said James calmly
