Mission:
The Lost Brother
Timeline: Current minus 1 month
Williams walked through the thong of marines from the way from the communication center to the quarters that had housed one Colonel Jason 'Jack' Frost. She'd known what he said to his father and had been unsurprised too see a travel ban come down almost instantly on the man's name. She'd already thought of that and had pulled some strings on his behalf. She knocked on the door.
A row of two large tightly packed bags lay at the foot of the bed, a third being violently stuffed with clothing along with what ever remained of his temper. "Yes." He spoke, frustration laced in his voice at the situation he found himself within because of the one he called...Father.
"If I may enter sir?" Her voice was tentative, but still calm. She was trying to suss out his mental state after the disaster that the day had dropped in his lap. The man had discovered his fathers treachery and had found out he was going to be a father in just under an hour and the man wasn't known for his gentle temper.
"Sure, come in Williams." Williams was the Comm's officer that had helped him out surrounding the messages from Acacia that had been blocked by his father.
Hazel eyes surveyed the scene as she entered the chamber and she licked her lips. "Told him what to do with his orders sir?"
"In none too fine a point to it, yeah you could say that." Jack answered, hoping that now he'd taken that step he'd at last be free of the shadow of his father.
"I thought you might do just that sir. I took some liberties on your behalf sir, in that instance before the retaliation could get into place." her voice was matter of fact, as if delivering a report.
"What liberties," Jack asked, his face awash with slight confusion.
"Well sir, seeing as the orders are aimed at sabotaging your relationship with the doctor and likely the relationship with the child as well ...I anticipated a military ban on travel. So I reached out to Maj.Gen Xavier Patel. It seems that he doesn't care for your father's heavy handedness with your career."
"And what does he have to say about the matter?" Xavier was a friend, served with him a few times but went separate ways before Jack's joining the Dreadnought contingent. Major General Patel was already on the senior staff element, a place Jack knew he'd be in had he let his Father control his career.
"Actually his message was quite specific on the matter. He said and I quote "Bastard! I'll pin him to the wall like a butterfly, and that you're not to worry about it. He also said that he expects an invitation when you marry the girl."
Jack smirked, that was Xavier. "And how did Xavier aid me?" What he would do was one thing, what he could do was another and right now, all it was costing him was an invitation.
"It seems his wife has connections sir." She walked fully into the room, and handed him a peculiar looking little chip. It was a passage coin, the kind used on the fleet of high-end mercantile transports that Patel's wife had come from. Williams pressed the tiny red edged chip into his hand, assuming that he would know what that particular color meant. As she had never seen one before, not like that. Normal passengers on these sort of ships had silver marker chips indicating their reservations.
Well this was a surprise indeed, these were not just handed out and least of all casually. Xavier was clearly pulling the strings, but that left Williams, she had done all this on her own back and that was sure to draw the attention of his father. "What about you though, you did all this for me, pretty sure someone is going to find out, somehow." General Frost always had a knack for finding out things, somehow.
"Communications isn't my only skill sir. I'm quite good at logistics and planning as well. I expect that I covered my tracks rather well, but I suppose I'm not infallible." She cocked her head to one side thinking about it for a moment before offering a one-sided shrug "I expect its not impossible that they could find out it was me"
"I suppose since you know what's happened, you could use that as leverage. I'm pretty sure it he wont want it public knowledge what hes playing at." Jack answered, knowing full well that while parents only wanted the best, sometimes they could go overboard about it.
"indeed not sir, however if anybody looks, it wont be at me as I used Bertrick's login ID. That should confuse them for a while."
Jack smirked again, never underestimate a marine. "When does the transport leave to get me into orbit?"
She tipped back her wrist so that she could look at the crono that was hiding underneath it, and very briefly did a mental calculation. "If I am doing the math correctly you should have approximately an hour and 45 minutes before the ship gets within range of the tracker in the chip. It is a unique location sir so I expect it will take them a moment to figure out how want to get a personnel transport here. However I expect thought it would be easier to manage such a thing from the orbital station, if you wanted to hitch a ride with the inspection tour that Garrity just sprung on the station itself."
"I'll do that then, easier." Not that Jack was one to take the easy route in general but if it got him out of his fathers antics, then perhaps easy, this time, was for the best. It would be good to see Acacia again, maybe talking to her about recent events would invite her to suggest things. "Did my resignation get transmitted or did no reply come in yet?"
It got transmitted sir, however the current officer in charge of that is one major general Patel. I expect should you not wish it to be common knowledge that it could disappear."
Thats a relief I guess, hes always been a thorn in Jack's side since he didn't play Allen's game anymore.
Knowing his resignation was in the hands of a friend did give Jack cause for some relief. He just had to decide what to do with it once he was off the planet. "Alright, lets get ready, sooner this is done the sooner I can get my life on track again." He planned to call his mother and let her know what happened, confident that she would have some stern words for the General.
"Yes sir.". Williams saluted crisply before turning on her heel to head back to her post.
A plan was in place, all he needed to do was act on it. The sooner he dealt with his Father the better but he didn't want to do it while angry nor consulting Acacia on it. He also had a pregnancy to return to, one which up to now he'd been away from because of his duties.
