Mission:
Starship Side Quest
Location: Ten Forward
CJ Boucher leaned forward and squared his jaw as he looked Hamilton in eye, their right hands were clasped with their elbows set on the table. Soran watched the two security officers and smiled as he sipped his synthale at the bar. He shook his head at the small crowd that was gathering around to watch these young men's shenanigans.
"You sure you're not holding on to the table Clint?" Boucher grinned. As he slammed Hamilton's arm into the table. "You taking my brig maintenance shift in the morning."
"I didn't approve any schedule swaping." Soran smirked.
"Oh don't be like that, Ren." Kay gave him a hug. "You are such a bear sometimes. Let them have a bit of fun." She was also nervous as today Kas and Ren would finally really meet and she hoped it would go well. Ren was really like a brother to her as well, just as Melor was.
"You could always challenge the winner Sir." Hamilton suggested.
Wagnor laughed at the young man's suggestion and moved towards the table. He sat and put his elbow on the table and looked CJ in the eye.
"Do me a favor Ren and keep my arm in the socket please." CJ said in a low tone. " If I win you owe me a bottle of that fine whiskey you been hoarding."
"When I win, your leading calisthenics in the morning and you'll owe a twenty one armed pull-ups." Soran grinned.
"Why don't you pick someone your own size." Melor said with a grin. He knew from experience how good the other man was and he was the only one he knew who had even come close to beating him and he had been practicing.
"I'm defending my liquor cabinet against this young upstart," Soran said. "We can tent our unfinished business after this."
Kas smiled at the officers contest of strength, "my bet is on the Commander."
Kay shook her head. "I am not even going to bet, it is so unfair. Kas nobody beats Ren. He is that good."
"Thanks sis. You know I have been practicing."
"Up to you, Mel. Just make sure you don't break anything this time." Kay said.
CJ's arm and shoulder hit the table with a thud.
"I'll let you to swap shifts, but I'll expect you to look over Hamilton's work." Soran said.
"Sure thing Chief," CJ said. rubbing shoulder.
"Have you ever done this?" Kay looked at her boyfriend. "It's a hobby amongst the men of my family."
"I'm half Klingon; contests of strength are in my blood,"Kas laughed.
"Well that matches." Melor said good naturedly. "So am I. Care to try?"
"I would be honored." Kas nodded.
He retrieved another strap and Handed it to Soran. "Please secure our hands, I trust you can call the contest."
The Angosian looped the strap around the two men's hands and wrists securing it with a neat knot. Soran's face changed slightly when he saw a little of the tattoo work on Kas's arm.
Kay noticed it but did not say anything. The men would have to work this out between them.
Melor had not mentioned to Kas that he had been severely injured recently. He did not want special treatment because of it. And most of his strength had returned. "Ready?" He said to the other man.
"Yes," Kas said calmly.
Soran nodded and the two men began there contest. Kas was surprised at the strength of the man's grip. He pulled Melor's arm closer to him before applying his full strength.
Melor kept all emotion off his face but he felt that this was not going well. He was not used to losing and had only lost to Ren in the past. But he had been at death's door only a few weeks ago. Being part Klingon he did not want to admit that though, and he did not want to give up.
Kas found Melor to be stronger than he expected.
It was harder and harder to keep his face straight but Melor was not giving in.
Kay was getting worried, she should have told Kas that Melor had been seriously injured. Both were part Klingon and giving up was just not in the vocabulary.
After a moment of struggle Kas brought Melor's arm to the table. He let out a triumphant cry in Klingon. "Good match Sir."
She held her breath. Melor reacted mostly like a human but sometimes he could have very Klingon moods.
But now he just smiled. "Well done, lieutenant, well done."
Soran looked to Melor, "I'll wait til you fresh for our rematch."
"Yeah, I won't be able to take you on now." His arm was hurting a little and he hoped nobody would tell the doctor as this did not fall under light duties.
Soran walked back the bar to return to his drink.
"Ren!" Kay stopped him. "I don't think you have been formally introduced to my boyfriend, Kas." Her eyes pleaded with him to be nice.
"I met Razka during the last mission," Soran said in a matter a fact way. "It's good to know you Kas."
Kas nodded the men stared at each other for a moment. "Care to challenge my victory?"
Soran nodded and moved to the table, he spoke in a low voice. "My people were not kind to yours."
"That's putting it mildly Sir." Kas hissed.
"I'm sorry," Soran in a quite tone. "I've left my people, I can't speak for them. I am not your enemy. As long as you do right by Kay."
He took the Hybrid's hand as spoke, "Melor please judge this."
"No problem." Melor said. He gave Kay a wink letting her know it would be ok as he saw how nervous she was. Melor knew that Ren meant a lot to Kay as well but she was crazy about her boyfriend.
The two men gripped their hands together, Kas was surprised by the Angosian's strength. They were locked in their struggle neither of them yielding.
"We might be here awhile," CJ chuckled.
Kay watched nervously, she wanted Kas to win, but she did not want Ren to lose either. Could a match like this be a draw?
Soran shifted his weight and slammed Kas's arm into the table. " Good match, I hope we can be friends."
Melor snorted and Kay just looked surprised. She hoped Kas would not take this the wrong way.
Kas began to laugh, "I haven't lost in some time."
She exhaled. "Ren is a champion, nobody can win from him. But you are my champion."
"I'll be up for a rematch at some point good sir as for now I'm going to turn in early Kay and are taking a shuttle down to the surface tomorrow to see the sights." The Hybrid explained. "I've chartered a civilian shuttle, there's plenty of room if you'd like to join us."
"I'll ask Tony if she's up to it," Soran smiled.
"I am sure she will." Kay said. "It will be fun."
