The ships current population was somewhat light, as clearance hadn't been granted to civilians to return to the ship, and most of the crew were still on Shore-leave. The Refit wasn't officially scheduled to complete until the end of the next week, so many of the crew weren't due to return following the refit yet. Leonard though, hadn't taken an extensive leave out of the Sol System, and had regularly kept himself apprised on the refit status over the previous few months. He had visited the ship on a number of occasions, although those visits had mostly been to collect items from his quarters. Today was the first time that he had been aboard for a progress update, as well as a tour of the ship.
He turned right around the corner, and as he walked further down the corridor he found himself coming past the sickbay door. Given the mood that he was in today, it was only natural that he thought back to his first visit there...

Following his meeting with the Counsellor, Matt headed for Medical. His sole purpose was getting checked out, and officially cleared for duty. His medical status wasn't in doubt, as far as he was concerned. Merely being declared certified was enough for him. The Galaxy class was the biggest starship to be constructing by Starfleet, thus everything about her was massive. Even the corridor that led to Sickbay seemed long. Sickbay itself, however, was small, understated, yet clearly prepared for anything and everything. The Captain observed the staff, going about their duties, choosing not to disturb them. He would merely wait for the first Doctor to spot him.
Lieutenant Sohnaxx Dvald came around the corner as she regarded the new arrival. "Afternoon Captain... has anyone looked after you yet?" the small Bolian woman inquired, she stood in at about 5'4 and weighed in at about a hundred and fifteen pounds.
"No Lieutenant," the Captain began, "not yet. I'm in for my Physical evaluation."
'Commander Rachael Yamaguchi meanwhile was sitting in her office as today was turning into a quiet day in Resolutions sickbay, with four accident cases and one fall today, it was quiet as she rose to her feet and went out into the main sickbay area.
She found her senior nurse standing before a male officer she didn't know. "Everything okay here?" Rachael inquired.
"Ah, Doctor Yamaguchi," the Captain began, offering his hand to his Chief Medical Officer. "I was just informing the Lieutenant here that I was reporting in for my Physical Evaluation. I'd like to get medically cleared for duty, if you would be so good as to oblige." The Captain knew that he needed to have a good relationship with his physician. She was, after all, responsible for his physical well being.
Rachael looked at the Bolian. "I'll handle this one." she responded softly, her accent really coming out as she said it. "Go on... see to Lieutenant Fitzgerald's broken leg."
The Bolian woman nodded before moving off as Rachael regarded the other male officer, whom she didn't know. "Right over here." as she turned, making her way to an unoccupied biobed nearby. "Have a seat." as she plucked her tricorder from her medkit. "So... you're our new Commanding Officer... I wonder why Captain Yoshinobu was reassigned....?" she then shrugged.
The Captain took a seat on the closest Bio-Bed as the Doctor scanned him, "Starfleet have kept me in the dark about the change in Command to the Resolution as well. If I'm honest Doctor, whatever their reasons are, I'm glad of it. I had begun to get fed up of waiting for the Freedom to be completed." The Captain referred to what was supposed to be the tenth Galaxy class vessel, that Leonard had originally been slated to Command.
"Well I can't argue with that.... If they had kept me waiting... I'd have gotten pissed off about it too." she paused. "Otherwise... you seem in excellent health. We should all be so fortunate.." she added.
"It is not so much pissed off, more frustrated 'Commander," the Captain replied. "Its difficult waiting to assume Command of a starship that is months away from completion." He stood up off the Bio bed, pleased with the clean bill of health. "I find a strict regimen of healthy eating and moderate exercise is enough to keep me fighting fit."
Rachael nodded her head. "Fair enough... I find swimming or running helps and when that don't work, I tend to pick up a Bo and hone my martial art skills." she explained.
"Am I safe to assume, Doctor, that you have cleared me for duty?"
"You are, yes." Yamaguchi responded. "I see no reason why you can't carry on with your normal routine."
"And what of the rest of the crew?" the Captain asked. "Are they all reporting in?"
"They are, yes... if a little slowly." Yamaguchi responded evenly. "But thats to be expected with a ship this size and a crew this large.."
"And what of the Civilian population?" The Captain asked, before further adding to his question, "Are we taking any active steps to assess their Medical conditions?" Civilians weren't technically obligated to report to Medical, like the crew were, but on some starships, efforts were made to bring them in for examinations as well. The Captain had no preference, choosing instead to leave that choice in the hands of his Chief Medical Officer.
"We are, yes... I've been leaving that in the hands of two people, Ensign Gar'shen Boonlieen and Jodie Leggo." Yamaguchi responded. "I felt it best to leave the civilians in the hands of a civilian."
"Good thinking Doctor," the Captain replied. "Anything further to report? Have any of the crew failed their physicals?"
Rachael shook her head. "To this point. No sir." she answered him. "However as the old saying goes... the day is young."

Doctor Yamaguchi, as he recalled, had taken great joy in the fact that she'd had over 99% clearance rate from that first round of medical exams, with just three people unable to be cleared for duty on medical grounds. Following treatments and medical rehabilitation, those three people had eventually been cleared by the end of the Resolutions first assignment. Leonard had been proud of her when she had been offered Command of the Hospital Frigate USS Boyce. He had felt that she had most certainly deserved it. He idly wondered what his new CMO would be like...
