Wish I'd have a heads up

Posted on Tue Jul 13th, 2021 @ 4:40am by Commander Marisa Sandoval & Captain Xavier Carey

Mission: The Mentarin Effect
Location: Transporter room
Timeline: Current

"What do you make of them sending someone to take over negotiations?" Xavier inquired as they approached the transporter room. Truth be told, it wasnt the first time that he had dealt with negotiations. The first of this nature, but overall not the first.

"I don't know. It will depend on the person they sent," she said. "And even if they sent someone, you may still want to be involved as you know more about what's going on than most. There's nothing wrong with both of you being involved."

"Oh I don't doubt that Commander, just a heads up would have been nice." Xavier replied as he walked in. "Energize." He ordered the transporter chief.

Marisa just nodded and let the Captain take the lead.

Lt. Commander Dixon was transported in, a bag slung over her shoulder. She stepped off of the transporter. "Sirs. Lt Commander Isabella Dixon reporting for duty. If one of you could give me a brief of what we are dealing with, I will get up to speed as fast as I can."

"If you will follow, we can make our way to the diplomatic offices three decks up, we can discuss it there." Xavier replied as he extended his hand. "Captain Xavier Carey, this here is my First officer Commander Marissa Sandoval."

Marisa extended her hand. "Welcome to the Resolution."

Dixon extended her hands to both. "Thank you. I'm sorry I am not prepared as I should be...I was pulled off emergeny personal leave," she explained as she followed them.

"I apologize for that Commander being newly promoted, it seems they required diplomatic officer." He replied as they made their way to the lift.

"And you probably don't think you need me, she responded. She waved her hand in front of her. "Trust me, I'm not offended."

"Not necessarily," Marisa said. "We have some...delicate negotiations with a colony and the Klingons to help the colonists get out from under the thumb of Orions." She turned to the Captain. "Does that sum it up?"

"Klingons, they can be a prickly bunch. Whose in charge of the colony? What race?" she asked.

"Not to mention the former CO getting shot by an Orion sniper."

"I'm sure that just tickled them pink. Did the sniper get caught?" Dixon questioned.

"No. The sniper was assassinated," Marisa replied. "We don't know by whom. The people on the planet are humanoid."

"And the Klingons are on the side of the colonists?" Dixon asked.

"The Klingons have the same interest as we do. I am sure that the Leonard was just who got here first. Thats what it seems anyway. Luckily for the colonists."

Marisa nodded in agreement.

"To be clear, what is the endgame?" she asked

"We need to get these people help," Xavier replied as they walked into the turbolift. After ordering the deck with her offices, "their people are getting sick, pollution is soon going to claim the planet uninhabitable."

"I presume we have medical staff offering help, to show them that we mean no harm, but to help."

"The doctor is working on that, yes. Part of the problem will be cleaning up the atmosphere," Marisa said. "It has dangerous levels of pollutants."

"They don't understand that the planet is causing them to get sick? That we could find them a safer place to live, a healthier place?"

"This is their planet, their home planet... its not just a colony."

"It's also that they mine the resources of this planet," Marisa added. "That's what's making the air toxic. We're looking at option for air scrubbers and other things to help short term and if they accept our help, safer mining techniques."

"As well as medical help, there is disease running rampant on the surface. We need to get under control."

Dixon nodded. "The sooner the better. No one wants to leave there home."

"I will contact Captain Drex and have him prepare, we start in six hours."

Dixon nodded. "I will look over any documents and reports."

"Thank you," Marisa said. "All the information should be in the main computer. If not, let the Captain or I know." She smiled as the diplomat prepared to leave. "Good luck."
