Mission:
The Mentarin Effect
Location: Chief Engineering's office
With his superior, Lieutenant James Wayne, busy carrying out a task, they had agreed to meet later on. This gave just enough time to Karatek to prepare his quarters to his liking and meet the Chief Councilor. Has he had the opportunity, Karatek would have tried to be updated to the latest on the mission. It was okay nonetheless. This meeting with his superior would not only be to meet him, but also to get updated. So when the time came, Karatek headed to the Chief Office.
James had just returned from the latest round of checks on the atmo scrubbers so far things were moving along at pace but one could never be to careful. He had UST gotten himself a cup of coffee and sat down when the chime sounded letting him know he had company. "Come in." Said James as he took a drink.
"Hello sir. As a was explaining, I'm your new assistant chief engineer. Lieutenant Karatek" Karatek said, using the standard starfleet posture.
"At ease Lt. please have a seat and start over. I have not caught up with my paperwork so I honestly have no idea what your referring to." Said James bluntly
Karatek was surprised James wasn't expecting him. "My apologies sir. I thought the words came to you I had arrived and was ready to meet you. When I came in engineering an hour ago, I couldn't find you. Someone assisted me and said she would let you know. She even suggested you would be able to meet me around now. If the time is not proper, I can come another time, sir."
"The time is fine though how anyone had any idea I would be here now is a question for later. We have been rather busy with the project to help the planet we are orbiting, and I have been so swamped that I have not been able to keep on top of things like I should. Hopefully that will change with your arrival. I hope your ready to get thrown into the deep end because that is exactly what is going to happen." Said James flatly.
Karatek took a second to reflect. "I prefer to act when I have a good idea what is going on. It is better to act when you have enough information to take a decision. I will do my best to catch up as quickly as possible. But if it is not possible, I guarantee I will act in the best of my abilities in the circumstances that we know." he explained.
"I am going to assign you to oversee the production of roughly 2100 atmo scrubbers for the planet I will of course be on hand if you need anything or have any suggestions with regards to this project. I expect updates every 4 days. Do you have any questions for me at this time?" Asked james as he reached for a PADD that was on top of a stack of 2 dozen of them.
"I was about to. I assume the schematics are on this padd? Are there any information on the condition down on the planet. Any limit on the scope of our actions because of the prime directive?" Karatek asked, anticipating nonetheless that all the information was on that padd.
"Yes the schematics are on the pads as to the conditions on the surface well I would not go down without breathing gear best guess is it will be uninhabitable in 10 to 15 years depending on who you ask. As far as the scope is concerned this is a case of we helped make this deaster so we are going to help clean it up at least that is the impression I got.". Said James calmly
Karatek nodded. "Thank you sir. I will look into it and keep you updated." he said, waiting to be dismissed.
"Well then we had best be about our duties." Said James calmly almost as an afterthought he added " oh and Lt. Welcome onboard."
