Mission:
The Lost Brother
Location: Counsellor’s Office
Commander Wagnor sat stoically in the waiting room, he hated psych evals. He had far more pressing work to do than sit in an office and try to convince a stranger that he's not crazy. He checked the time on his PADD. 'The least she could is start on time.
The door to Sky’s office opened and Sky popped her head around the door. “Commander Wagnor, please come in.”
She offered an apologetic smile as she motioned Wagnor to the seats. “Please make yourself at home. I apologise for my tardiness I’m afraid morning sickness is a law unto itself.” She picked up a PADD and took her seat. “Please feel free to use the replicator if you’d like anything.” She gave him a curious look, her senses were practically useless where Wagnor was concerned.”
Soran noted the expression on her face before move to the replicator, he was careful not to turn his back to her as he ordered his raktajino. He adjusted his chair before sitting so that he had a view of the door.
"I really don't like these evaluations," He stated in a flat voice.
“Not many people do Commander” Sky offered a polite smile. “I, however, am not your average Counsellor. I don’t believe in ‘reopening old wounds’ as the saying goes.”
"Are you telepathic" He said in the same flat tone rubbing his temple, "I felt something you invited me in."
Sky nodded. “I’m half Betazoid and half Romulan, as such I’m empathic and telepathic.” She studied him curiously. “Though I can’t sense you.”
"Does that bother you," Soran inquired with searching look.
Sky paused. “To be honest, it does a little but I’m sure if you were dangerous that Starfleet would not have assigned you here.” She offered a smile. “I still have my instincts to rely upon.”
""I'm a former soldier of the Angosian Defense Force and veteran of the Tasian War and I currenting serve as Security on this vessel of course I’m dangerous," Soran said with laugh. "The question that needs to be answered is whether I pose a danger to the crew."
Sky studied the man before her as he spoke. “I’ve read about Angosian soldiers, programmed to switch into a defensive mind set when a threat is perceived. Am I correct in thinking that it would take a direct, personalized threat to make that programming kick in?”
"Perceived, is the key word," he explained. "I've gotten better at accuracy perspectiving threats, I wouldn't have accepted this post if I thought I presented any threat to this crew. I'm being contrary, I like to get things out in the open."
“That’s good” Sky nodded. “Being open and honest is the best way. You’re the first Angosian I’ve ever met, so I’d like to learn more about what you’ve been through without trawling through all your past counselling sessions. As I said I’m not one for digging through every past event.”
"Fair enough, I was recruited and Indoctrinated at sixteen. The first to go to work on us were Psychiatrists. Hence why I have a hard time trusting you, it's ironic I was screwed up by the people who are supposed to help me." Soran looked at the floor.
“I promise you there’ll be no messing with your mind here.” Sky offered a sincere gaze. “I want to help you, not tamper with you. It’s people like that, that give therapists a bad name!”
"I appreciate that," Soran looked. " I feel I must warn you. I don't understand what was done to my head, but when I'm scanned psionically it's like needles in my brain. I've been told the feeling is mutual."
“I appreciate the warning, I can’t sense you and I wouldn’t purposely try to use telepathy anyway.” She offered a smile. “I appreciate your honesty, I know it can’t be easy sitting here.”
"No it is not," He looked her in the eye.
She seemed to be content with his explanation. There was far more to it. but he didn't know if he could trust her. Even if he could, he wasn't going to burden her with his past sins.
"I'm sure I've seen Dr Kaufmann's notes," the Angosian's tone was flat with a hint of hostility. "Any questions."
Sky paused to take a quick look at the notes on her PADD regarding Soran. “I see you suffer from nightmares? How have those been lately? Also I see there’s reference to a relationship breakdown?”
"The nightmares are less frequent, only to last week" He sighed. "Sara decided that me not crying meant I didn't care. I got tired of trying to convince her otherwise."
Sky nodded. “I appreciate your honesty Soran...” she paused as she looked at his file noting the name of one of his previous therapists. “I see you know Tony?” She smiled warmly.
"We had few sessions, it got me out of a bad situation." He smiled. "I was having a disagreement with a Andorian liaison. He grabbed my arm and I threw him off a second story balcony. I was given the choice between anger management or a severe reprimand.”
Sky nodded. “So Tony helped you with your anger problems. She’s a good Therapist, and a good friend, you’re lucky to have been assigned to her.”
"I was a year ahead of her at the Academy we’ve known each other for a very long time." He said.
Sky nodded. “Well I’m glad you have a friend onboard. I think Tony could use a friend right now too.”
"That what gathered from our conversation yesterday." He nodded.
“I’m glad you’ve already talked.” She put down the PADD she was holding. “Now, is there anything you want to talk about right now?”
"I think we've covered everything," Soran said quietly.
“For now perhaps” Sky offered a smile. “I would like a follow up appointment at some point just to see how you’re settling in, and how you’re coping.”
He sighed, "if you insist. "
“Don’t worry it’s just a formality.” Sky smiled. “I wouldn’t be much of a Counsellor if I didn’t check up on you every now and again.”
"Alright I'll see you in a week or so," he stood up. "Until then."
Sky nodded. “Until then Commander”
