Mission: Evacuation
Location: Planet
Timeline: beginning of evac

"I was just a kid when my father helped settle this place, it grew quickly, people from all over came to help settle it. Those who wanted away from starfleet. Not necessarily to rid of them. That was never a goal. It was starfleet who decided they would sooner appease an enemy, than to help us keep what we have built."

Paige chuckled raising her hands in supplication to the sun briefly. A brief expression of her own farm heritage, and a telling one for those who knew her. "You can stay and get slaughtered and enslaved if that is your choice. Starfleet is not going to take you unwilling, and will die to protect you if it comes to that."

"The choice we were given months ago, resettle or be at their mercy." Mitchell replied. "We weren't given exactly the best choice... the maquis who fight for the settlements, have made it very hard, that want to stay out of the conflict. They forced starfleet to consider all of us traitors who decided not to heed their advice at the time."

"If this was a maquis settlement, I would agree with that statement. Let's not compare apples to oranges here hmm?" Paige countered, her smile fading at the thought of the Maquis.

"What you say are apples and oranges, I see as granny smiths and mcintosh. They are fighting for their home, fighting for their livelihood."

"They may have started that way, but now I am not so sure." Her eyes were uncertain.

Mitchel paused. "How about we agree to disagree. Shall we."

“Starfleet is trying to get the colonists away from here, those that want to go.” Sky offered a friendly smile. “They won’t force anyone who doesn’t want to go.”

"I know there are hard core fighters, but some are like you and me... they want whats best for their families, and think taking a stand is such."

Boucher had kept his ears and eyes open and his mouth shut, he could see there wasn't going to be any easy solution to this problem. "Well the way I see it; only fair way to treat these people is to let them know what's comin' and make their own choices. The house is on fire and we don't have the water to put it out. I think most of the families will do the right thing, but some of these people would rather burn than admit to a mistake."

The young lieutenant stood next to Paige and looked Mitchell in the eye. "I think I speak for everyone when I say no one here wants bloodshed, we need to offer evacuation and safety to those who will take it."

"I asssure you the majority wants to evacuate... the rest will follow."

"Are you certain of that?" Paige said quietly, knowing that some times what was expected didn't occur. "If we evacuate those that don't want to go there could be treachery."

"We have a way of ruling... the council is made up of members, each member is responsible for certain areas of the city... each can contact their people for responses and have the response in seconds... we have overwhelmingly chosen to evactuate... mind you there are a small percentage that state they do want to stay, but will reluctantly leave." He paused, "50,000 people, I know I cannot vouch for everyone of them."

Once again, Paige pinched the bridge of her nose. "A fair point."

"I am sure we will figure something out." Mitchell replied. "Just think positive."

“Sometimes it’s just not that easy” Sky interjected as she’d sat listening. “Fingers crossed all will go smoothly, last thing anyone needs is any misunderstandings.”

"Fair enough Lt. Lts just discuss things and see what we come up with."

"What is the most important thing on the list of requirements for a new home?". Paige asked, as she drew with a stylus on her PADD.

"A temperate climate... farmland, and compatible with our animals."

"Speaking of the animals. Do you have a veterinarian that can aid me in the transference? I don't want to lose any stock in the transfer if I can help it.". Paige asked quietly, her face pensive.

"We do... and they are at your disposal."

"I shall need to talk to one at length I think." She replied thoughtfully, her mind chewing on the problem.

"I will send the lead to you as soon as possible."

"I have the samples being analyzed in my lab, but I don't understand some of the readings my botanist is getting on it. " Paige rubbed her temples gently, as if she had a headache.

"Everything alright Dr." Mitchell asked the smell was often said to be offensive, but being a farmer himself and housing some of these bovine like animals he became immune.

"I just have a headache." Paige said softly, admitting to the annoyance of the ache in her head. "Naught to concern yourself with.".

Pausing, "It may be connected, many visitors claim to have the same. Especially around the food source."

CJ began scanning page with a tricorder, "Let's get some readings for the Doc just in case."

"Only if you let me see them when you're done" she conceded, knowing she wouldn't win.

“Everything alright?” Sky offered a smile as she joined the others, she’d been trying to help out where she could getting to know people and commiserate with them.

"I have a headache". A smile crossed her lips, as she downplayed the ache in her head. She was sure it was tension related. "Our friend is overly concerned"

"Just gathering and the relevant data Dr Bryant," Boucher said. "I just sent the scan to your tricorder, I'm sure you're right."

He gave her a confident smile.

“If it gets any worse then I suggest you go back to the ship, last thing we need is you getting ill” Sky offered an understanding smile.

"Light's blessing, I am not sick. I'm just...I just have a headache." Her eyes flickered over the scans of herself and she paused a moment to look more closely at the readings. "These colonists are full humans aye, from earth?"

"We have a variety of people, including some here for scientific study. Betazoids, tellarites, andorians, vulcans..."

“Quite the mix” Sky smiled. “Well Vulcans should at least see the logic in leaving this world. It’s not fair but it’s better than the alternative.”

"Do we have pre-colinization medical records?" Paige asked quietly, her mind working faster than her mouth would be able to explain why she needed them.

Sky looked towards Paige “They should be making sure that medical records are brought along, but I can’t say whether we’d get access.”

"I need access." she said simply looking over at Mitchell "I think I can figure out your livestock problem, if I have access to those records."

Mitchell walked over to a wall, and opened a drawer. "Everything you need to know from mating habits, their diet, and their favourite toy." He reached out a small datapad. Handing it over to the Dr.

Paige offered him an appreciative smile and started pulling up prior bio-scans and current bio-scans for the humans that she'd had direct contact with. There was something nagging at her that she couldn't quite put her finger on yet. It was there though, ripe for the picking.

"Anything Dr."

"Maybe." she wasn't sure yet, but her eye had caught something and her mind just needed to keep up.

Mitchell just stood back, and watched her work.

"Maybe it's nothing but could you compile and send back to the ship. My assistant is a master of patterns, and she might see something here that I'm just getting a hint of. "

"If you think that is best. I can have it up there in a matter of minutes."

"Much appreciated." Paige said softly, annoyed that she was missing something obvious.
