Mission:
Evacuation
Timeline: After 'War Room' Before 'Marine Briefing'
After the two marine commanding officers left their "War Room", Aalis remained behind as requested by her Chief. As soon as the doors closed, she turned and looked over to him. "Yes?" she asked.
"Aalis, I do hope you'll honor me by observing one more of my people's Traditions," Soran said. He turned to the empty chair and picked up the glass he'd placed there at the beginning of the panning.
"Of course," she said. She knew of his people's ways, and that they really didn't have anything to be super wary of their ways and of them.
"This chair represents those lost in battle. In the council chambers of my people each warrior craves the name of someone they've lost. Please share this cup with me."
He looked her in the eye and raised the cup in a toast. "We remember those who fell before us, we share this cup in remembrance."
He took a sip and offered her the cup to Rinne.
She took a sip after rising the toast. There were plenty of people that were lost at the Battle of Wolf 359, and the Rinne symbiont was one that still dealt with the trauma of losing the host so unexpectedly. Nodding as a sign of respect, she handed over the cup back to him. "I appreciate you including me in the ceremony, especially with the big endeavor that we now have before us. This will be the biggest operation that most likely either of us have been a part of."
While Wolf 359 was terrible and there were so many ships lost to the Borg Cube, and so many people that were injured out of that, it was different with them needing to evacuate a whole planet of colonists that were losing their homes because of the outbreak of war that they couldn't negotiate their way out of. The Federation prided itself on peaceful times. Unfortunately, they had their own sortied past that allowed them to learn from those mistakes and get the colonists out now instead of later.
"I've done civilian evacuations before my people were a bit heavier handed, hence my acceptance of harsher methods the Marines are mostly right." Soran explained. "I won't completely rule out the stun grenades but we should avoid that if possible."
The Angosian pushed back traumatic memories of what he'd seen his people's military do to control a crowd.
Nodding, she replied, "I agree. While I think their methods are the right approach, I feel that we might be shooting ourselves in the foot; the human proverbial fits here. I believe that we will do everything we can to keep any strife at a minimum. I do feel that we are going to appear weak to any of their dissidents because the Marines will be predominantly handling the evacuation while we're doing the screening. Also, I do agree that while they are right, I think our response might be too much for the average colonist. It's a very tenuous situation that we have with this powder-keg about to blow; another human proverb. I hope both of us are wrong."
Wagnor sighed, "I'm doing my best to take the views of others into account in these matters. Memories from old battles had been clawing at my judgment lately, I'm counting on you to speak up if you think my judgment is off."
She acknowledged him with the tilt of her head. "I understand where you are coming from. Traumas are that, they like to force themselves into a situation regardless if you give them wiggle room to do so or not. I am glad that you are cognizant of the past being difficult, and I will do my best to keep an eye on your judgment. Any concerns, I will bring them to you first. If egregious and I can't get you to stand down, I will use the necessary force and resources as discreetly as possible." She knew that he was seeking help for it, just not in the most conventional of ways. In their line of work, sometimes one did what they had to do to survive. If he hadn't asked her to keep an eye on the situation and judgment, that would have left her more concerned.
