Check In

Posted on Sun Apr 2nd, 2023 @ 5:03pm by Lieutenant Commander Rutherford (RJ) Milton

Mission: Starship Side Quest
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: TBD

Robert strolled into sickbay Data PADD in hand and looked around for the ship's Chief Medical Officer he was due to check into his new assignment for a medical check-up and mental evaluation. He was eager to start his engineering work as soon as possible but it would take time to process him plus he wanted to meet the Chief personally and get to know her. He stood waiting for someone to greet him and show him to a medical exam bed.

A bright light flew his direction, Pix had a new person to meet, she darted in his direction and came up short of his personal space to hover at eyelevel. A six inch tall blonde female in a white dress to the ankles and gold sandals with a literal glow to her as her wings fluttered to hold her aloft. She courtesies and smiled to the newcomer.

"Ah the new man on board." the voice was followed by the Chief Medical officer making his way from the back of Sick Bay. " I see that Pix has beaten me to the door as usual, stopping and offering a handshake. "Doctor Milton, Chief Medical Officer, or you can just call me Doc like everyone does." He gesture to the hovering Pixie like person. "Pix here is our greeting committee of one."

Pix waved and smiled.

Robert gave them each a friendly Texas nod. "Howdy, bit more of the normal greeting I expected but a pleasure to meet you both." He said in his slight Texan accent. He got to business handing over the PADD. "Here for my check in, Doc."

"Biobed one is open." Milton gesture to the open unit. remove the jacket and we can get you started." He moved towards it himself. "Any recent aches , pains or major medical events I should know before starting?"

Robert followed him. "No, Dr. T'Rell, on the Sovereign was quite through making sure her crewmates health was at peak efficiency." He said taking a seat on the biobed.

Pix flew up to sit on the monitor, het legs daintily crossed under the longer skirt of her dress and beamed a bright smiling face to Carver.

"Not that I do not have faith in other doctors, but the scan in a regulation and I do not think..." Pix licked the screen with her heels and the display lit up. "Thanks Pix, helpful as ever." HE glanced at the setting as he continued. "Looking forward to getting your hands worked to the bone?" Milton tried some lightness. "Our Captain is one to get things done you know?"

"Is the Engineering team lazy or something?" Robert asked.

"Not really, they just keep you hopping, Capitols ships are run hard you know, and we are in a state of agitation, things are heating up and we are in the middle of it." Checking the monitor data. "You do give the scanned impression of a healthy sort." He commented.

"This is not my first rodeo, Doc, I served on a Galaxy Class before perhaps you heard of her the Enterprise?" Robert replied with great pride.

"In passing." He read the data. "Picard is a strong Commanding Presence ; and The Chief Medical Officer is a spitfire." He joked. "Doctors are a small community, we have training trainings and such where we cross paths once in a while." He added. "At least I will not to worry about you awe struck and walk into a low hanging Conduit."

Pix giggled as she listened and just watched from her perch.

"Your family must be proud, the Enterprise is a good vessel, but why the change?" Milton made some notes while talking.

"Wolf 359..."

Milton did not have much to say at that point, the personal losses from that encounter alone he had come across since said volumes. In some cases whole families lost, close loved ones torn apart from one another and the sheer loss of human life made it a staggering loss to mankind.

Pix felt the change in the room as even her glow faded just a touch.

"I can understand that being a reason." He said with conviction as the final analysis came. "You are no worst for your wear." Milton nod. "I am sure Lieutenant Hamilton will be glad for the extra expertise in her Engineering." He chuckled. "But keep en eye on her. I think the ship sees her as a snack."

Robert nodded resting his hand on his thigh. "A snack you say? These Galaxy Classes may look big and scary but you got to know how to handle them. I am sure Hamilton and I will be fine in getting her in tip top shape again." He assured.

"I am sure you will learn what I mean after you are around her for a bit." It was cryptic but at same time not so far off.

Looking at Pix then the doctor Robert had one thing on his mind suddenly. "Hey, Doc, uh can you come here a second?"

"What can I do for you Mr. Carver?" Milton was getting a slight feeling in his gut.

Lowering his voice to a whisper Robert leaned closer to him. "You and the uh... tooth fairy aren't like, dating are you?" He asked.

"I am afraid my Darling Girlfriend would not approve." Milton replied. "Pix..." He emphasized her name. "Has kind of gotten close to a person on the ship also. I think you might say she is spoken for."

Pix got a tainted glow that Milton reconized with irritation, a sort of soft red hue to her glow. SHe pointed to her teeth and shook her head in defined irritation while pointing to herself before darting away in a bright flash with trailing afterglow to the CMO office.

"Did I mention she is empathic and has great hearing?" Milton chuckled.

Robert groaned not intending to upset anyone but his curiosity did get the better of him. "Great...I didn't mean to upset anyone just like to know how two crossed paths."

"She will get over it easy enough." Milton chuckled. "I was adopted by her actually during a Survey of her home planet." He said simply. "You might say she followed me home; got aboard unnoticed and until we had completed a Survey mission of several Sectors she remained hidden." He explained. "When she let herself be known we had covered so many possibilities we do not know where we can take her back to." He shrugged. "She and I are Life partners; a bonding that is hard to say; I need her and away from me she becomes physically Ill if too long a separation."

"So...the two of you are sort of a real life version of Tinkerbell and Peter Pan?" Robert asked curiously.

"I have been told I have Peter Pan Syndrome in that I get older but refuse to grow up, but even in the Peter Pan universe He did eventually grow up and Tinkerbell did not perish." Milton noted. "We are sharing a life, closer to a Trill in a way, she is sharing My life with influences but from what my Gut tells me we will 'Pass together." He explained. "That is what I get from Pix."

"I see...my wife is part trill herself so I think I seem to understand now."

"You might be one of the few in that case." Milton joked as he noticed Pix peeking out of the office. "Most just accept she is about and go no further, she has some close friends and of course her Best Friend Forever, so we call it a win." He offered a hand shake. "It was a pleasure meeting you and when your wife comes in I have an excellant woman doctor on Beta shift who is just a delight. I find women like to have lady doctors sometimes so I give the option."

Robert shook his hand. "Well, other than my stupid question it was a pleasure to meet you as well." He looked at Pix. "Again I am sorry for hurting your friends feelings."

Pix hovered and gave a lady like sourtsey.

"DO enjoy your time on the Resolution and again, welcome aboard." Milton concluded.

"Thanks, Doc, I'll see you both around." Robert gave a friendly nod before leaving.
