Psych evaluation

Mission:
Traitor amongst us?
Location: Counsellor’s office
As promised Kiera had arranged an appointment for her psych evaluation, arriving at her set time she stood outside Kayleigh’s office, pressing the chime she waited for permission to enter.
"Come in, come in." Kay greeted her at the door. Her office was cosy with soft colours that did not exactly scream marine. But the wall art was more martial and Kay's desk was sturdy and old fashioned with an old fashioned leather desk chair. But she guided Kiera to the set of comfy chairs that were the counselling suite.
"What can I get you to drink?"
“Just a lemonade please” Kiera smiled as she sat down, making herself comfortable. “Why is it attending a psych evaluation makes you feel nervous? It’s one of those things that everyone seems to dread.”
"I am afraid of doctors and I have no idea why. But you don't have to fear me, I am here to help if needed." Kay put the lemonade in front on her guest and then sat down on her own chair pulling her legs beneath her and making herself comfy.
“Thank you” Kiera smiled as she picked up her glass and sipped her lemonade, before putting it down again. “So, where would you like to start?”
"That is up to you." Kay said. "Is there anything troubling you at the moment, causing you any kind of anxiety?"
Kiera paused. “Not anxiety, no. Maybe a little worry...” she paused. “Robert and I are trying for a baby. We decided that now we’re together we’d like to grow our family. It’s just being a hybrid, you hear stories about hybrids not being able to conceive naturally. What if I can’t give Robert the baby he wants?”
Kay nodded. "What does Robert say about this?" She asked gently.
Kiera shrugged her shoulders. “I haven’t brought it up yet. He’d probably tell me to stop worrying, and that it would happen when it happens.”
"And do you think he would mean it when he says that?"
Kiera nodded. “I guess so, Robert has a way with things. He makes me feel like there’s nothing I can’t do!” She smiled a warm smile.
"That is good. He sounds like a very caring husband, and not someone who would blame you for something that is not your fault."
Kiera smiled. “Robert is the most caring, kind, and considerate man I have ever met. It’s what drew me to him in the first place. He’s a true gentleman.”
"I am so glad to hear that." Kay said. "I think the best way forward for you is to keep talking to him about your fears. It is often so much worse what you imagine in your own mind."
Kiera nodded. “That’s true. Robert is a very sensitive man, I’m afraid of putting him off the idea of having children. If he thought there’d be a chance of losing me, or a baby, he’d refuse point blank.”
"And how do you feel about that?"
Kiera paused. “I...I’m not sure. I want children, I’ve always wanted a family and Robert knows that. I love him, I wouldn’t and couldn’t leave Robert.”
"I haven't heard yet what you think of the risk to yourself and a baby? You only talk about Robert."
“Risk to me?” Kiera paused. “The risk isn’t any greater for me than any other woman, but I guess I’d be nervous about something going wrong.”
"But you would take the risk?" Kay asked gently.
Kiera nodded. “Without a second thought, I want to be a mother.”
"Then he needs to know that. You have to be very clear to yourself. How long you want to try, what risks you are willing to take. Honesty and clarity are key."
Kiera nodded. “I will, thank you. Robert and I don’t lie to each other, I’ll talk to him.”
"Good. And I am always here if you need a shoulder or to vent. I know this can be a tough road to travel."
“Thank you, I appreciate that.” Kiera smiled warmly.
"Good. Now anything else that is bugging you or you just want to discuss with me." Kay continued.
Kiera shook her head. “Nothing bugging me that I can think of, feel free to ask any questions you might need answers to.”
Kay laughed. "It's not an interrogation, Kiera. None of your previous psych evals show any reason for worry. And I rather want to trust people to come to me when they need me."
“In that case I’ll make a promise to come and see you if, and when, I need to.” Kiera grinned. “In the meantime we can get together as friends.”
"Great. I like that. I am looking forward to exploring things together."
“Me too!” Kiera grinned. “It’ll be nice to have a friend I can go shopping with! Robert hates shopping with me.”
"I don't know what I think about shopping, I have never been really girly, tough marine and all you know." Kay said. "But I do have a boyfriend now. So I may need to get used to dressing differently off duty."
“Well I’m sure there’s other things we could do.” Kiera smiled. “Anytime you need help choosing a dress, or something different just let me know.”
"Dress!" Kay's voice rose an octave. "You think I should buy a dress?"
“Not if you don’t want you” Kiera was quick to offer reassurance. “It was just an idea.”
" would need shoes as well." Kay looked caught in headlights. "With heels?"
“Not necessarily” Kiera smiled. “There are some nice flat shoes you can get that would go with.”
"And you think guys like that?"
“It doesn’t matter what the guys like Kay” Kiera smiled. “In my opinion it’s what you like that matters, not what they want you to look like.”
"well I am usually either in uniform or in work out clothes. Not very appealing I know." She did look worried.
“Who cares!” Kiera smiled, “It’s a good way to find out just who likes you for who you truly are.”
"Kaz never complains you know. He is very good to me. I just thought it would be nice to do something nice back."
Kiera nodded. “Why not, if that’s what you want to do then do it.”
"Ok we can go shopping at the starbase. If they will let me go. Technically I am also one of the people that are being kept safe at the moment. I can't tell you too much about it."
“I understand” Kiera nodded. “There’s no rush, your safety comes first. So... does this mean my evaluation is over?”
'Oh oh yeah. " Kay said. "I am pretty laidback. And you seem balanced enough." Kay grinned.
“Thanks” Kiera grinned. “That’s good to know.”
