first meeting
Posted on Thu Apr 6th, 2023 @ 7:50am by 1st Lieutenant Kayleigh London
Mission:
Shoreleave
Location: gym
Kay was fully concentrating going through her tai-chi session. Usually she went for a heavy full on work-out but today she was more in the mood for something more gentle and to try to meditate while she worked. She always told patients to meditate and yet she was so bad at it herself. And right now she was acting chief of counselling on a fricking big ship. She hoped that Sky would really be back in two days time, this was not what she had signed up for.
Robert strode in for his usual jog when he noticed Kay and snickered a bit. "Boy, the folks on this ship get weirder all the time."
She opened her eyes and just stared at him. "Rude much?"
"No, I just don't see many do Tai-Chi usually a good beat down in the holodeck is a nice remedy for some for me it's a relaxing horse ride." Robert replied.
"I don't ride." Kay did not miss a beat in her routine. "I am trying to break myself of my habit of beating people up when I get frustrated." She said with a straight face.
Robert put his hands up trying to show he meant no disrespect. "Hey, I was just saying what works for me, okay?" He headed for the track. "Sorry for interruption."
Kay stopped now. "Sorry for being rude." She said. "It's not the way I was raised. My daddy would be so mad at me now. I am Kay, Kay London."
"The Counselor, I know." Robert replied remembering her from the crew manifest. "Surprised he even let you off the sheep farm in Wales."
"Owwww. From your accent I can tell you are not English. I would expect a low blow like that from an englishman. And you are also very lucky I promised my boyfriend to stop beating people up." it hit a bit too close to home but she was not going to let on.
"Actually, I am Texan, Robert Carver, " Robert said. "And I would think a Counselor would be helping people not wanting to beat the crap out of them."
"Another long story. I am a marine and half a year ago I was happy serving as a combat marine. But since I also have a doctorate in psychiatry my command officer requested I do a few tours as a counsellor to break me out of my habit of brawling." She shrugged.
"That explains a lot." Robert honestly thought the woman needed a good fuck to hopefully settle her down. But for all he knew it just do her more bad than good. "So maybe you should get a new hobby other than one that involves maiming people."
"Yup I am working on that, hence the meditating and the tai chi."
"Well see least you are trying I mean tai chi is not what I fancy a good horse ride or maybe a old fashioned wild west shootout is what helps me."
"A shootout is also a violent hobby and I am trying to stay away from that. And as I said, I don't ride, so those are both out for me."
"Thought maybe camping or hiking... fishing perhaps? Those also help me relax."
"Fishing? That's like counting sand. Tony's dad does that, he took us out on the boat when we were kids, that is soooo boring. caming is ok I guess." She did not show very much enthousiasm.
Robert rubbed the bridge of his nose in agony. "I give up, fuck a sheep something I tried." He headed for the track frustrated.
"Nope haven't tried that one. You do know that the sheep in Wales are that afraid of the natives that they will run on sight." She said with a completely straight face.
Robert started to stretch out his muscles. "Well, think of it as foreplay then."
"I don't think my boyfriend would appreciate it if I did that. He's not from Wales."
"What he don't know won't hurt." Robert teased casually.
"You are so sick. Have you thought about seeing a therapist?"
Robert shrugged his shoulders. "I don't seem to be the one with a history of wanting to beat the crap out anything on two legs." He replied clearly not affected by what she said to him
"Didn't I just tell you that I have quitted cold turkey. I have been clean for 6 months now though I must say you are beginning to tempt me." She smiled as she said it though.
"So? Still don't change your long history of turning everything into a UFC match." Robert stopped resting his hands on his hips. "I am a engineer not some therapist obviously I gave you suggestions the sheep one well wasn't really meant to be serious unless you really are into that sort of thing."
"Oh believe me you would be a lousy therapist." Kay said with a grin. "First you are trying to solve my problem for me. Before I have even said it is a problem for me. I am just trying out things right now and seeing if I like them. Today I have found out tai chi is boring as shit so that is off the list. Second you are now getting frustrated that I don't like your suggestions. Nope, I am afraid you will have to stick to engineering."
Robert was a taken back by her assessment a little bit he wasn't going to deny she was right. "Well... good cause I have no interest in being a therapist I am better off fixing ships than people." He took off his shirt showing off his ripped physique placing it next to his towel and water bottle. "I'll leave that to real professionals."
"How about you and I start over?" Kay said and held out her hand. "Hi I am Kayleigh London, nice to meet you, shall we spar?"
Robert shook her hand. "Robert Carver, and absolutely not I am a lover not a fighter." He trotted onto the track.
"Aww.' Kay said. "I would promise not to hurt you. But a work out feels like a good idea as well after the tai chi."
Robert stopped for a moment turning to face her. "I don't fight girls it's called chivalry, Kay, plus I don't hold back. Therefore my answer is no and will always be no." He motioned for her to join him. "But I could use a workout partner I suppose."
"Great we will do that as I would not want to hurt you either. I am afterall a combat trained marine. Working out is safer." She said grinning.
"Well, come on we can hit weights after a jog."
"You are in." Kay started a jog straight away. "Let's make it a long one, I have energy to burn!"
Robert joined her. "There that is what I like to hear." He replied.
