Get Away (BACKPOST)

Mission: Starship Side Quest

Kas took Kay hand as two walked through the busy spaceport.

"I can't wait to see what you have booked for us." Kay said. Usually she was the one who arranged everything, it was both alien and exciting to let someone else handle everything and just be surprised.

Kas smiled, "I arranged for an a night the Embassy Hotel. The Bolien Ambassador needed so translation work done. So he pulled some stings for me."

"Sounds good." she whispered in his ear. Kay hoped that the dress and the shoes would surprise him and she hoped she remembered how to do the make-up. Right now she did not mind at all not going with the guys on the pup crawl.

The couple walked into the lobby of the hotel holding hands. Kas made arrangements to have their bags to their room and got the room code. Kas had managed to get a of suite.

"Do you want change before dinner?"

"Ehm yes actually I do." She wanted to surprise him. "I may take a little longer than usual." Kay grinned.

"Of course whatever you need Dear" Kas said touching his forehead to her's.

"Why don't you wait downstairs in the lobby and I will be back down as soon as I can." She kissed him back and took the room code from him.

Kas smiled, "of course."

** twenty minutes later**

Kay came out of the elevator feeling very selfconcious in her new dress and shoes and the make up she had put on as best as she could. Now she only hoped Kas actually liked it and not burst out laughing at her.

Kas was sitting at the bar when Kay got off the elevator, "you look lovely Dear.

"You really think so." She asked a little shyly.

"Yes, you're stunning I have reservations at the hotel restaurant."

"That sounds very nice." At least her parents had taught her table manners so that should be ok. If she just remembered to walk like a lady and not like a soldier getting there.

He offered her his arm and let her into the dining room, they were seated the a table by the windows. The server approached and offered them menus.

"Thank you." Kay said when taking hers. "Looking good." She said after giving it a first glance. "What are you in the mood for?"

Kas smiled and spoke to the server in their native language and the server nodded, then said. "The lady would like to taste the local cuisine. Don't make anything too spicy but tell the chef we want the local experience."

Kay nodded. "I agree. But really careful on the spices for me. I come from a country with a pretty bland palet. And some local drinks as well. Free of alcohol if you have it."

"Well that's no fun," Kas with a smile

"I thought you did not like it when I drank?" She said. "So I try not to drink at all. Much easier than knowing when to stop once I start. That is not always so easy for me."

"That's fine," Kas said and ordered iced tea.

"I am doing my best," Kay said. "Have you decided what you want to do yet? Stay on the Resolution?"

"At the moment Command is making that decision for me, I have orders to report to the Diplomatic Corps In a few days," Kas said.

"Damn," Kay said softly. "I had hoped you would stay." But she understood duty.

"I'm sorry Dear One," He sighed. "It's an urgent matter involving my people."

"Of course, that comes first." Kay smiled. "I would never keep you from duty."

"I'm glad you understand." The Hybrid smile.

"I am from a military family remember. My parents were lucky but epecially in the beginning of their marriage they often served apart."

"Distance is common for the Quath'Mar as well."

"We will manage, I am sure of it." Kay said. "But I do hope you won't be too far away and too long."

"It's hard to say," Kas said. "I want have my orders tell I report."

"And I know that you will tell me what you can and that you won't share classified information, nor would I want you to." She grinned.

"Let's enjoy the time we have," Kas smiled.

"Yes. Let's make it romantic in our hotel room. That's a first for me."

"That the plan," Kas smiled

Kay's badge began to beep right that moment and she cursed. It had to be an emergency to interrupt much needed r&r.

"London."

"Lieutenant your shoreleave has been cancelled. You are needed back on the ship asap." The connection broke. Obviously someone in a hurry to reach all the crew on shoreleave on time.

"Duty calls," Kas shrugged. "I'll settle things here and join you soon."
