Mission: Starship Side Quest

Kay came into major Nisu's office, she had only just learned about the marine being on board and was pretty excited about it. Maybe the major would allow her to do some marine duties as well, besides her counselling job.

"Ma'am! Welcome on board. I am first lieutenant London." She saluted correctly.

Alisa nodded as she offered a small smile, almost more of a quirk of her lips. Her black eyes stayed sharp through the introduction. "At ease, First Lieutenant. Take a seat," she said motioning to the seat in front of her desk. Alisa had officially been granted the job a couple days ago. Some marines were assigned to her, and others she was able to pick out from a list; one now sat in front of her. "Can I get you anything?" She offered pointing to the replicator. Alisa had the lights in the small office nice and bright. A couple of plants were scattered throughout the shelves and her desk adding much needed color to the utilitarian room.

"Tea would be fine, ma'am." Kay said. She was nervous not sure what to expect and if the woman opposite her even knew anything about her.

Ordering the tea and refill to her coffee, Alisa handed it over. "The nervousness is pouring all over the room, London; even a non empath can tell that. Just breathe. I am not going to bite." She sat back down in her chair. "Tell me, what's on your mind?"

"Sorry ma'am. Just wanting to make a good impression. And I was hoping that I could work for you as well, ma'am. I am not sure if you are familiar with my file." Kay tried to look less nervous.

"I've glanced at your file. I was more wanting to see if you were going to reach out or if you weren't. I know everyone always has something tumultuous and I don't like to be biased by whatever pissed off person updated the personnel files," the major smiled. "Don't stress. With everything on our horizon, we have bigger issues to worry about. So why don't you give me the two minute rundown of who you are, why you want to work with my team and what skeletons are lurking as shoulder chips that I'd need to worry about."

"Ok." Kay said. "1st lieutenant Kayleigh Branwen London. I am fully trained as a combat marine but I also hold a doctorate in psychiatry. I like being a marine counsellor but I want to be in combat as well. I miss it. The last half year I have been a therapist for ship personel. I come from a starfleet family both my parents and several of my brothers and step brothers are in the fleet. My mum is also a therapist. I chose the marine corps so I would not fall directly under their command. I am a little hotheaded. Oh and my family has a lot of enemies. My godfather is a four star general but he would never interfere with my career so please don't worry about that. In an argument he would probably back you over me anyway because he knows I hate favourism. I think those are the most important highlights, ma'am. Anything else you want to know, just ask."

Smirking, Alisa responded ,"well, marines are generally have temperaments that run hot. That kind of falls in line with how we are able to maintain control during high stress and intensity situations. Are you still up to date on your weapons certifications? I know for field medics and counselors, they don't technically mandate the standard certification cycle. I ask because of the tumultuous times ahead of us. I need to know who I can pull on that's up to date and still holds standard or above standard proficiency with their designated skill sets."

"Of course ma'am. Until six months ago most of my work was combat based and now I work out every day and do weapons training. I am a fully qualified combat marine." She said with pride.

"Excellent. What's your current assignment? Are you here visiting or are you temporarily assigned to the Fleet side in counseling?" Alisa asked. "I know you're not here in marine capacity." She only knew that because she wasn't assigned under her and Alisa was in charge of the marines here.

"I am assigned as a counsellor." Kay said. "My former CO wanted me to do a year as a counsellor. But he did not say I could not do marine duties either. And I can certainly be the marine counsellor. But if I don't see some action soon I will go stir crazy."

Alisa laughed lightly. "Once a marine, always a marine." She looked over the PADD with the information that she had been documenting, that and had the personnel file up. "I'll talk to your senior officer about possibly borrowing you from time to time for things and training. I do not want to overload your current work load. With the advent of war on the horizon, it's prudent to get complacent."

"Thank you, ma'am." Kay said. She hoped Sky would go ok with this. But it was a big ship and counselling was understaffed. "I will get underway with scheduling the mandatory psych evals for marines and I will schedule yours as well, ma'am." She said with a grin.

"Looking forward to reading the reports. Is there anything else?" she asked of the younger marine.

"No ma'am, not right now."

Alisa smiled. "Dismissed First Lieutemant. You'll be hearing from me hopefully soon."
