Psychic Interrogation

Posted on Wed May 3rd, 2023 @ 5:34pm by Lieutenant Sky Jansen-Carey

Mission: Starship Side Quest
Location: The Abysm
Timeline: Directly after "Welcome to the Abysm "

Soran opened his eyes and winced at the bright lights in his face. He could feel cold air on his bare flesh. His head was strapped into a cold metallic frame that kept it in place. There was a tube in one of his nostrils. The adhesive keeping it in place stung and pinched painfully when he moved his face. There was some kind of cuff on his arm; part of it was deep in the flesh. An IV of some kind? He tried to move but realized he was strapped down…

"You're awake I see." He could hear a voice above him say.

Kara stood at the foot of Soran’s bed. Her Ullian telepathic abilities gave her the unique ability to get inside Soran’s head, she was just waiting for her master to tell her when.

"Fuck off and die Mangath!" Soran rasped.

Soran felt something cold going through the veins in his arm. The ice turned to needles and the light was suddenly blinding. He gritted his teeth and held back a cry of pain and slammed his eyes shut.

"Something to make you more… Cooperative," Mangath said deliberately. "Give the chemicals a few moments to work, don't want you to risk injury from the subject's resistance…"

“Ohh don’t worry,” Kara smiled. “As the Borg say, Resistance is futile.”

Soran opened his eyes… Everything was black… Not dark black… He seemed to be floating… No sense of direction… There were flashes of memories… He could see his training… Mangath… Ichatha… He kept floating… Trying to focus on something that would keep him centered… His mind was well and thoroughly in his past…

Suddenly Soran could see Thatha's face... She was speaking, the words weren't quite coming through… It took a moment for him to know where he was… He was in a comfortable chair… The furniture was nice like a sitting room; but it seemed impersonal, a hotel. The light Was dim but natural, sunset…

His right arm was hanging off the side of the chair. He could hear a buzzing noise and feel the hot needling sensation in his upper arm. Thatha held the tattoo gun steady. "This hurts me more than it hurts you Ren."

“How do you figure that?" Soran asked, smiling.

"They say the act of creation is like childbirth." Thatha laughed, wiping blood from his arm. She was humming as she continued drawing the image of 'the Ren' on his arm…

Kara was standing closer to Soran now, her fingers tracing his tattoo as she delved into his mind, into his memories, probing what she could get access to delving deeper into his mind.

There was something off about the memory, Soran wasn't quite sure what it was. Thatha's eyes were green…. Looking into her face now the eyes he was looking at were blue…

Kara sensed the change in Soran, the thoughts about Thatha’s eyes made her smile, that was something she could correct. She moved deeper looking for another memory she could twist to her advantage.

Soran resisted as the memory dissolved before his eyes…

Soran looked around, he was wearing a full Spec Ops kit With his visor down. Everything had a green/gray hue to it, through the dark vision sensors. This was a security bucker on Roth IV Two figures stepped out of a doorway and shot them both. They didn't move like soldiers He thought He was told they were taking out a terrorist's stronghold, to exterminate them with extreme prejudice… The two he shot only had pistols? Where was the paramilitary weaponry he'd seen the terrorists use? He looked up and one of his comrades raised the rifle at a figure emerging from a doorway, they fired and the figure hit the floor. God it was an unarmed woman.

"What the fuck?"

"Cut the chatter! Keep moving!"

The words of Soran's comrades echoed, this was his memory but something was off… He felt like he was being watched…

Kara was sensing the suspicion but she kept the memory moving, trolling through Soran’s mind and memories to find what she was looking for.

Soran was at the back of the formation, the commander motioned him to a door and he plugged the code breaker in while the rest of the team was ready for the breach. The door opened and the team ran in firing weapons. Soran followed behind the others. The Rothins in the room wearing the same uniforms they’d had when his people had trained them months ago why were they enemies now?

The commander raised the halting hand as they gathered around the next door. Soran could weapon fire and people shouting coming from behind the wall. “All clear, stand down.’

They lowered their weapons as the door opened and they see another squat of Angosian Soldiers standing over fresh carnage. Soran recognized the Rothin Prime Minister and the members of his cabinet. They had just taken out Rothin government the woman laying on the floor was his wife.

Soran tried to leave this memory the something was stopping him, he turned and there was a woman…
She wasn’t part of the memory… she was watching everything…

'This is what she was looking for,' Soran realized. If they have what they need... they don't need me...
