"Computer, begin personal log, Lieutenant Jacen Render, USS Resolution."
"Recording"
The last 12 months have been hell. It's as simple as that. there have been good days and bad days, more bad than good but one thing is clear.
The Galaxy has changed and turned a corner. And its changes for the worse, not the better.
The move by the Klingons to openly attack Cardassian Space to make sure that the Founders... the leaders of this new Dominion threat, do not gain a foothold in the Alpha quadrant is like someone aiming a phaser rifle at a powder keg and firing at it on full power.
Once the Klingons removed themselves from the Khitomer Accords, that was it, game on.
I wasn't expecting to be recalled back to the New York, hell I'd been on the Resolution for less than 2 months and Starfleet reassigned me back, citing that my experience on the New York was vital in this new conflict with the Klingons.
Last I heard, Nebula Class starships were meant to be exploratory, but the New York had had an upgrade with a new defence Pod installed and she was soon on the border of Bajoran and Cardassian space. "On Patrol"
And boy did they come at us. If they weren't hitting the Cardassians, you'd swear that their disruptor fire was being aimed at us to try and make us clear out.
Border Patrol was all well and good for the next six months, seeing various skirmishes with the Cardassians and the Klingons... and then there was that one time we went head-on with a Jem'Hadar warship.
Not a nightmare I'll be getting rid of soon. Nasty buggers. We took a hammering but managed to make sure that it didn't return back to the Gamma Quadrant. There is still the question of why one of the Dominion's ships was so close to the Cardassian Border... I never did get an answer back on that one when I submitted my report to Captain Erikson.
Either way, just when I thought my time in combat was done after the Cardassian Border Wars, Starfleet decides that now is a good time to change up a Nebula-class Starship for a Galaxy-class Starship. So here I am, back on the Resolution and this time as her Chief Tactical Officer and not as her Chief of Operations.
Things have moved on in the 12 months I have been away and I'm now treating this as a brand new start, carrying along the knowledge I've gained. At least I still get to wear the gold shirt in this new uniform, underneath the grey and black.
As I said, The Galaxy has changed and it's changed for the worse.
War is coming. Either against the Klingons or the Dominion. And it's going to get messy. People are going to get hurt, and friends and family will be lost.
One thing is for sure, we'll all be changed after this is over, for better or worse.
Since I've completed my medical, I've been informed that there is a gathering in the conference room, so I'm taking this as a chance to get to know the crew who are aboard.
Including Sky. She's moved on and so have I, so that's water under a bridge that doesn't need to be crossed.
Captain Leonard is no longer aboard and its best to treat this as a new start.
Right then, let's go and meet the crew.
"Computer end recording of Personal Log."
