We need how many?

Posted on Wed Jun 16th, 2021 @ 9:49pm by Captain Xavier Carey & Commander Marisa Sandoval

Mission: The Mentarin Effect
Location: Ready room
Timeline: Current

Xavier sat down in his seat, going over the things that starfleet would be able to offer, he had also called in the Chief engineer and the new science chief in to see what they had come up with in regards to the atmospheric scrubbers. Commander Sandoval would be there too as like his previous CO, on the Wellington, he never did anything without him being in the loop.

James arrived for the meeting knowing at least in part what it was about. He walked in and sat down pouring himself a drink while he waited for the others .

Amelia's nose was busy in a PADD. She punched a few things on the PADD and then made some noises that seemed to range from interested to pleased. Then came a sound of questioning before she walked straight into a chair. "OH!" she exclaimed. "I must have arrived! How silly of me!" She lowered the PADD and then looked around and saw the Captain, "Oh, hi Captain! How are you?! I didn't miss the briefing did I? Sometimes that has happened when I'm all involved in my work. I'm sure that you know how it is, don't you? But I bet everyone has to wait for you, don't they? Definitely an advantage of being the Captain, no?"

"Definitely an advantage Lt." Xavier replied, "Please help yourself to a beverage for something to eat while waiting."

James shoulders slightly shook at the antics of the chief science officer, he coughed when the water he was drinking went down wrong. 'Well, I wonder if that does not happen from time to time as a chief. Though I will be damned if they catch me acting like that,' thought James after all engineers were the ones who kept the ship and crew safe day to day they could not afford to be anything but serious when on duty

"Something the matter Lt?"

"No sir just went down the wrong way," said James as he poured another glass.

Marisa walked in and nodded to the others. "Hello, everyone," she said, grabbing a drink before taking her seat.

"So what do we have in regards to the scrubbers. It's something I intend to offer at the negotiation table."

"Sir we can meet the requirement however we are looking at over 2100 scrubbers for a 26 per cent reduction. Like I said we can do it however we will need to stop at a starbase to resupply and we would have to ration the replicator usage." Said james bluntly

"Well that won't be happening, our job is to get things ready, offer the complete solutions, if they accept the scrubbers, it will not be us to manufacture and install them."

Amelix, if possible, looked somewhat dejected for a moment when she heard that they would not be manufacturing the scrubbers. She then immediately perked up. "Oh! Well, here I was trying to allot the appropriate amount of time to manufacture all of the scrubbers, but it seems that's not necessary anymore! Well, that should certainly allow me much more time to do my experiments! How lucky for me! So, why was I called here? Didn't Mr. Wayne tell you about the scrubbers? Or was I supposed to do that? Um, I forgot to take notes, I think. I rarely do when there's no data to record.

"I called you here to ask how many we would need to get started around the main cities. The capitol, the Main population areas. We will manufacture what we need to get started.... what's the percentage the scrubbers can get it to ND how do we increase it?"

"Well, Captain, as I informed Mr. Wayne, we would need 2137 scrubbers to get the atmosphere approximately 26.389 percent cleaner atmosphere in the short term. Too much more than that might be a shock to the inhabitants' system, anyways. They're used to breathing in all that yucky stuff. Can you imagine?! I can't imagine that! I think that I would choke to death! And I wouldn't want that! Who would?? But to get used to that?! Ick! I can't imagine!"

James quickly grabbed up a oversized engineering PADD and put it up to act like he was reading. He bit his lip to keep from laughing but could do nothing to hide the shaking of his shoulders as he fought the urge to laugh at the other chiefs antics 'maybe the captain will better understand her to him the science chief seemed to be acting like a little kid with a sugar rush all that was missing was the bouncing off the wall.

Xavier watched the chief engineer, but said nothing. He would have a discussion afterwards. "Perhaps in couple of years we could fix it to something better. Commander Sandoval, your input on the matter?"

Sandoval found the conversation quite enlightening--and entertaining. "I think the least we can do is help them with the air quality. Drop the pollution levels and send scientists to help create a long-term solution. There are better mining techniques they could use. The Federation could offer the equipment for an agreement to sell us the minerals at a slight deduction until they pay off the loan. Even if we can't make a deal, I think we should offer help. The people here can't continue the way they're going or they won't survive another decade."

"Agreed. The help will be offered whether they agree to the negotiations or not."

Marisa nodded. "What else can we offer?" she asked.

"There is something, however I want to discuss it with you privately, before I bring it to HQ." Xavier replied as he leaned back. "Wayne, I want you and the Lt here to start manufacturing the ones we can build, working together I am sure you guys can build enough to get them started until starfleet can get here with the proper manpower and equipment to complete it."

"Yes sir.". Said James firmly now that they had a task to accomplish he was determined to get it started

"If there are no questions... Dismissed. Once this is over Lt Wayne. I would like a word." He motioned to the engineer. "Commander, if you can remain, there is something to discuss."
