Marisa walked into security in search of the chief. She wanted to talk with the senior staff as she would be working with them for the foreseeable future, and she wanted to hear what the chief had in mind for his department. He'd been there long enough to have everything runnign well, but she liked to be open to new ideas, if he had any.
Tony Johnson had been at his desk entering reports. This was the least exciting part of his job, but honestly the most stress free part of the last couple of days. Finishing the last part, he hit the submit button and leaned back in his seat. Breathing a sigh of relief, Tony leaned back and propped his feet up on his desk.
The door chime sounded. Marisa hoped the chief would have a few minutes to chat.
"Come on in," the Commander called out.
Marisa walked in and gave the other officer a half-bow. "Hello again. We didn't have much chance to talk earlier."
Quickly removing his feet from the desk, Tony stood up. "Welcome aboard Commander. Please have a seat."
She chuckled. "Thank you, Commander. As you were." She sat across from him. "Tell me about security."
"Got a great security team here," Johnson laughed. "Still getting to know them. Only been together a few weeks, but so far no issues."
"That's good to hear," Marisa said. "I've looked over some of their profiles, and I agree with you. They look excellent, but we both know that personnel are more than just the content of their files. As you work with them every day, I appreciate your opinion. Is there anything you need for your department? Andy changes you'd like to make? I can't guarantee anything, but I would like to know."
"Its still fairly early to tell. But the previous Security Chief had this department running like a well-oiled machine. To be honest, I'm still trying to find away to leave my own mark. Captain Reeves left some real big shoes to fill with all the years he was assigned to the Resolution."
"I have no doubt you will, in time," she assured him. "Just remember that it took your predecessor years to gain his reputation. Yours will come as you interact with your department. If it helps, I got to step into the Captain's shoes. This is my first position as Executive Officer."
"The good news is that he is fairly new to this ship like myself," Tony mentioned. "So the pressure shouldn't be too much. But the crew and their families are pretty welcoming."
"That's what I've experienced so far," Marisa said. "It has a good ambience." She was looking forward to getting to know more of the crew.
"So where are you coming from?"
"Before here? The Serengeti," she said. "My background is science and counseling."
"What made you decide to switch over to the Command route?" Tony inquired.
"I like challenging myself," she said. "This is a new opportunity to use the skills I learned as both a counselor and a scientist. So, when I was given the opportunity, I took it."
"Good opportunities rarely come up."
"True. This was one opportunity I could not pass up." She smiled. "Then again, life is full of opportunities. Where we end up is based on which opportunities we take and which we do not."
"I couldn't agree with you more," Tony acknowledged.
She smiled. "Is there anything you need for security? I know you've had time to get settled in, but as I'm getting familiar with the ship and crew, now is a good time to suggest any changes or modifications."
"No needs everything was handle before we shipped off, but I appreciate it."
"Good," she said. "Then if there is nothing else, I should let you get back to your duties."
"Nothing else," he replied. "It was good talking with you Commander."
"And you, Commander. I look forward to working with you." Marisa gave him a Vulcan bow and left him to his work.
