Good luck on your travels

Posted on Fri Jan 28th, 2022 @ 1:17am by Captain Xavier Carey

Mission: The Mentarin Effect
Location: Ready room
Timeline: Current

Xavier got into his ready room, with everything set, the ships were set to depart, Commander Sandoval's request for a temporary Leave of absence had been approved and had just beamed down to the planet to start preparing the mine for closure. The Federation Mining Corporation had experts on their way. Klingons were sending some of theirs on their way, apparently it was more... difficult to convince.

"Computer open communications to Captain Drex, request private communications."

"Captain Carey," Drex's image appeared on the screen. "Something else on you mind?"

"Just wanted to ask where to send the crate of whiskey I promised you when this was all over." Xavier replied as he leaned forward, wanting more information from him about the situation on Q'onos."

Drex laughed a hearty Klingon laugh. "I will send the... what do you call in the Federation? An address? Yes, I think that's it. I'll forward that to you."

"How about I beam it over, I may just add another case or two if you give me the rundown on what's happening. You have my honour, and technically we are bound by blood now with the ritual if I'm not mistaken."

Drex's eyes narrowed and the smile on his face ran away. "It... is somewhat grave." He looked to his right and left and then leaned towards his own screen. "The Empire is not happy about the forces coming from the Bajoran wormhole... and especially not happy about their seeming alliance with the Cardassians. The High Council also supposes the Federation is not happy with the situation either." Now the Klingon captain looked through the screen expectantly. Drex wanted some information as well.

"We are not happy with the situation either but we are terrified more now that you have withdrew your forces." Xavier replied. "Based upon Intel from Captain Sisko, there are changelings that have infiltrated Earth, two that have been confirmed, this came from one that had impersonated Miles O'Brien. Starfleet chose to hide that from you, out of fear of this happening. Another that blew itself up during the attack on the Earth during Romulan negotiations. This... thing... between our people will be the fall of both the Federation and the Empire."

Drex drummed his fingers on his desk while he listened. "You and I know we cannot let that happen," the Klingon replied gravely. "This will be a difficult test for us and those that share our thoughts on this matter. These... changelings... I believe would like nothing better than to keep alliances against them from forming. I admit, it's good strategy on their part... we cannot let them succeed."

"I suspect that there are infiltrators in the Empire as well. Possibly close to the chancellor."

"Some in the Empire agree with you... unfortunately, some don't. It only takes one so sow doubt and cast blame to others to cover their tracks. They are insidious!" Drex thumped his fist against his console.

"I will keep you updated on the Federations dealings, even if it is against orders Captain. Hopefully our time in battle will be with each other fighting the common enemy, not each other."

Drex nodded solemnly, "Agreed. And I'll do the same... somehow."

Within a few seconds of console pressing, Xavier had beamed his stash over to the Gree'Tok. "I guess our work here is done, there are just a few loose ends to take care of and then we will be departing as well. Its been an interesting week Captain."

Drex let out a low chuckle, "We have a saying back on Q'onos, 'may you live in interesting times'... it's never been clear if it's a compliment or a curse."

"A bit of both I hear. Good luck on your travels."

"And to you Captain."
