Report to the Resolution

Posted on Wed Feb 23rd, 2022 @ 1:05pm by Commander Antonia 'Tony" Stoffels & Fleet Admiral William Ross

Mission: Free write
Location: Starbase 375
Timeline: Current

Fleet Admiral William Ross looked over several reports coming from various ships. He had heard of the Resolutions dilemma, it was in service briefly after a refit, it already went through two XO's one choosing to assist the people on Mentar, and the first leaving with the original Commanding Officer after he was attacked, both of which had been brought to this starbase.

Going through the candidates, for a new XO, there as a request to allow the second officer to remain and eventually become the official first officer of the ship, however with tensions building, he needed someone with experience in command. This will give the second officer more time in the position, as well as give her the ability to gather the intel that would be needed.

The first couple of names, that popped up, didnt meet the criteria that he was looking for, either no experience with what would be needed, not saying they wouldnt be great officers, but being assigned to the area of space that required more... combat, more... heartier officers. That knew combat. He came to the padd that had piqued his interest from the get go. Lt Commander Antonia Stoffels, she was a counsellor, however, based on her history, and being friends with her father, he knew exactly how she was.

"Lt Delaney, patch me into the USS DeRuyter, Second Officer Lt Commander Tony Stoffels office please." William replied after pressing the com button.

Within a few minutes, the computer chime came up, indicating someone was on the other line. Turning his chair towards the computer, he tugged on his shirt. Turned on the screen.

"Commander Stoffels."

Tony smiled at the older man who she had known most of her life as Ross was a good friend of her father's. Officially they had not come across each other very often as Tony had only recenlty decided she wanted to try the command track. Had qualified and now had her first tour as second officer under her belt.

"Uncle William. Don't tell me dad put you up to checking if I am doing ok. My tour went fine." She said with a laugh, never expecting an official talk with the admiral.

Keeping a.straight face, "Commander, I'm assigning you to the USS Resolution, as their first officer. I may be talked to given our personal lives, however you will be the right one for the position."

"The resolution? As first officer?" She blinked. "Sir.. I don't know what to say. I only just finished a tour as second officer. Why me?"

"Woth the war with the Dominion likely, the res will be at the front lines, we need someone with your experience,.and your background in counselling will definately help the ne CO."

"I don't have that much experience in command." Tony still could not get her head round it. She had not thought her career would take off that quickly. For a moment she thought her father might be involved but he would not willingly sent her into a warzone.

"You have command experience, that is enough, your reports from your CO has been exemplary, this will be a learning experience as it is for the Commanding Officer."

"Thank you for your trust in me, sir." Tony said smiling again. "I won't let you down. I am going to let you tell my parents." She finished a little devious.

"Your father never did like it you chose the side away from the marines."

"I know. It was mum who was really furious about it." Alexandra Sorrel came from a long line of marine officers. Her father had been the marshal of marines before his retirement and although she knew him as a kindly grandfather she knew the old man had been really hard on his kids. Especially his only daughter hwo he had not wanted to see in a combat role. "So mum might even be happy I am going into a war zone. Daddy will hate it."

"Your father hides it well. You will rendezvous with thenresolution via shuttle."

"He does. He doesn't want his marines to know he is a big softy underneath." Tony got to her feet. "Thank you for your support, sir."

"Good luck out there." Ross replied as he leaned back. Not that you will need it however."

She saluted crisply. "Thank you sir." With that she left the admiral's office to get ready for her unexpected transfer.
