As Vanessa would likely report to the Executive Officer on a regular basis, she decided to meet him before she got too busy. She'd only done that once before, and it was always better if you didn't make your boss track you down just to make sure you were aboard.
The quickest way to find him was to ask. "Computer, where is Commander Greyson?"
<
"Thank you." That was easy enough. Hopefully he wasn't too busy.
Cameron was sitting behind his desk, going over the last of the reports needed, the ships tactical systems, the last to be finished had been completed. After all this time in Dry dock, now the ship was ready to get going. That is, whenever the ship had a mission.
Standing, Cameron walked over to the window, and stood staring out. The past few weeks, he had found himself there for the most part, with Commander Johnson the Chief Security and Tactical, he was in charge of those. Both himself and Johnson had different approaches to running the department, and although they were new crewmates, they understood where each one stood when it came to it.
"Computer, play Country music.... Shania Twain.... Party for two." He ordered as he walked over to the replicator. "Coffee, Shot of Hazelnut." Once it had materialized in his programmed mug, bigger than most. He sat back down going over the latest addition to the crew, the Chief medical Officer and the Chief Science officer. "Computer, make a note in my file go meet up with the Chief Science officer, and make an appointment with the Chief medical officer for my yearly physical."
Just then the door chimed. Vanessa took a deep breath to calm her nerves and waited.
"Computer pause music." He replied as he tidied the desk of pads, stacking them on one side, then he took all dirty cups and took them to be recycled. Finally sitting down he tidied his uniform top as he sat down. "Enter"
The long pause made her wonder if he was too busy to see her and she should have asked first.
"Lt Jackson, your ears must be ringing, I was just telling the computer to make a note to go and meet with you." Cameron replied as he stood and extended his hand. "Let me be the first to welcome you to the USS Resolution. I hope everything is to your liking thus far."
As she entered the room, she took a quick glance around. "Thank you. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to serve here." She smiled and shook his hand. "I wanted to report in before I had a good look at science."
"No reason that both can't happen simultaneously." Cameron replied as he walked around the desk. "Shall we."
"No reason at all." A smile spread across her face. "Lead the way, Commander."
With a smile, he led her out the office, "So was your trip to the sol system uneventful?" He paused as they entered the lift. "Main science Labs." He ordered.
"Yes, but it gave me time to catch up on some reading. Some days there just aren't enough hours." She felt butterflies of excitement to see main science. Yes, most starships had a similar layout, but each ship had its own personality. "So, what can you tell me about the scie4nce department her?"
"Well... you do sciency stuff which involves sciency doo dads, and scan with sciency scanners and equipment." He replied honestly. "I'm a recent transfer in Lt, just like you. In fact the only other department chief that remained is the chief Operations officer who is the second officer."
She laughed, then covered her mouth, not sure how he'd react to that. "Sorry. Yes, we do sciency stuff with sciency doo dads. I think I'm going to label a compartment doo dads just to see how people react." She shook her head, going back to what he said. "That's quite a turnaround."
"Ill make sure you do Lt." Cameron replied with a smile as they walked out. The labs were on the other end of the ship... he didn't mind. "I'm here until the Bismark is built, which won't be for over a year. Then ill have an extra pip on my collar." Cameron replied, as they walked down. "Apparently the Captain here is well liked and can turn out captains like mad."
"Congratulations on your future promotion," she said. She grew quiet as she listened to the ship. Each one had a different feel, and as a half-Betazoid, that included the crew. There weren't many on board yet, but she liked what she felt so far.
Finally they came up to the science offices, the labs would be right next to them. The main labs, were were several, on several decks, this being the largest, and the main. "After you." He replied motioning for the doors.
She nodded and walked in. She stopped in the middle of the room to turn a slow circle, looking at everything.
"So what do you think Lt." He walked in behind her. "This is all yours."
"It's a larger space than my last ship," she said. "That will give us mor flexibility." She smiled. "I like it."
"That's good." He replied, "Your office is through that door right there, sorry to show and run. I've got an officer i gotta meet that has it out for me."
She smiled. "That's quite all right. I want to have a look at my new office." Out of politeness, she waited long enough for him to head out of main science and went to have a good look at where she'd be spending much of her time.
