Congratulations Chief

Posted on Sat Jun 18th, 2022 @ 11:43pm by Captain Xavier Carey

Mission: The Lost Brother
Location: Science offices
Timeline: Prior to change of plans

Xavier made his way down to the science offices, both officers had transferred off ship, and upon consideration on who was left, and reading her file, he made a miss Bryant the chief science officer, sure she wasn't Starfleet, but her credentials spoke for themselves and made her qualified. So he made his way down to see how she was doing in her new position.

She hadn't yet set a door chime to her office, so she was surprised nearly out of her skin to suddenly have someone in the office with her. She startled away from the man, then recognized him and put a hand to her chest. "Blessed Gods Captain, you can't sneak up on someone like that!" she reprimanded him gently "You nearly scared the life out of me."

"Not my intention... Miss Bryant. How are you settling in? I know that Starfleet doesnt usually set up civilian scientists up as department heads, but your record and experience speaks for itself."

"I am surprised honestly and truly." A wry smile crossed her face as she looked up at him. "There's going to be a lot of etiquette and protocol that I simply don't know because I'm not a member of starfleet. I wonder how that's going to work, me managing people in the fleet. They've no incentive to listen to me or my orders. Can I even give orders?"

"You may need the uniform, however the rank is not necessary, it there are any issues at all, I will deal with them personally."

"If you say so. I've never had any experience in the matter. I am sure that I can figure it out." She raked her hand through her hair with a huge sigh.

"You seem resourceful, plus we have a great crew. People here seem to be cool with things"

A laugh answered him, and she shook her head "Right. Right. I mean I'm not really doubting you. Most people are fabulous here. So how does it work between me and you since I am a civilian?"

"Don't see any reason how it would be any different if you were an officer. Of course though you would not be listed in the command structure as an officer would."

"I will take your word for it, and I will give you the benefit of the doubt until I have reason to otherwise." she muttered with a chuckle. "This is not how I expected this assignment would go, to be frank."

"I was not execting to lose officers either."

"No. I am sure you were not. " Pausing a long moment Paige weighed if she actually wanted to ask the next question on her mind. "Are you planning on replacing me with an officer the first chance you get?"

"If that was the intention I would indicate the position is temporary, this is me offering you the position full time. If an officer comes aboard, they are your assistant."

Paige nodded slowly, digesting that information with a soft smile. "I appreciate the clarification captain."

"Anytime. So... whats your first thing to do as chief?"

"Crawl through the active databases and see what people are actually working on and contributing to. Dead research doesn't do us any good. ". She answered quickly "then probably organize."

"Sounds like a good plan. Keep me updated with everything going on, although my knowledge in sciences are extremely limited. It is good for me to know... so i hear." He paused, "I would like you to have a visit with the doctor, and the chief counsellor, just routine with members of the crew. Just want to make sure everything is up to par."

She chewed on that knowledge for a moment and then nodded. A check up she didn't mind, but while she didn't feel like she needed a counselor, she supposed mental and physical health went hand in hand. She'd heard stories though...

"Congratulations on your position Miss Bryant." Xavier replied as he turned to the door. "I shall be expecting those reports asao."

"Of course "
