Captain Matt Leonard, Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Dr Rutherford Milton, Chief Medical Officer
*****
Now, 2372
Captains Ready Room, Main Bridge
Deck 1 USS Resolution

The Captain sat at his desk, reviewing the latest update on the status of the refit. Things seemed to be progressing well. He had to admit, he was pleased with how things were going. Not the least of which would mean that they'd be able to get out of dry dock and get back to doing some real work.

Milton had made his way aboard and coming straight from the Docking tube; his gear assured to be in the Quarters Assignment, he carry only the PADD with his Record sleeve and Transfer Orders. The uniform was clean and pressed as it should be; he had a passive expression on his face as he cross the bridge to the Ready room and rang the chime for entrance.

Matt looked up from the desk monitor towards the door. He hadn't expected anyone just yet. "Enter," he called out, giving his visitor permission to come in.

Milton walked into the Captain's Ready Room, the PADD with orders in hand. Moving to the opposite end of the desk he halt and with a welcoming grin spoke.

"Lieutenant Rutherford James Milton reporting Captain." He extended the PADD with his relevant information and transfer. "If you put the Ole thumb to the PAdd you inherit a New Chief Medical Officer." He nod. "Happy you approved the process requesting me here."

Matt shut off the monitor, closing the screen, and took the PADD in hand. "Welcome aboard Lieutenant Milton," Leonard replied, gesturing to the chair opposite him, indicating that the Doctor should sit. Glancing briefly at the PADD, he acknowledged receipt of the transfer orders with his thumb print signature, and set the device down in front of him. "You have just officially become responsible for the physical well being of the ships main crew complement. How does that feel?" the Captain asked with a smirk.

"If you do not mind me working my Magic?" He took the seat and grinned. "I am sure I will have a team in Sickbay Mystically be ready to help me?" He nod. "But in all fairness, I do appreciate the chance to take care of the Family called a crew, it is why I came out here, to help heal."

The Captain raised a brow, as he said "I hadn't expected to have signed aboard a shipboard entertainer as well. We'll have to have the 10 Forward lounge schedule you in for some evening performances." He smirked at his new Medical Officer.

"Does that mean I can do the Cut the Captain in Half trick?" Milton chuckled. "Let me find a new Assistant, solo acts are not as big unless I have a partner to share the illusions." He nod. "Oh, I do not cheat and use site to site, only the real stuff."

Matt shook his head, "I'm afraid that I'm busy that night." He smiled then. "Have you taken the time to check-in with sickbay? Does it meet your expectations?"

"Your rather larger Security were quite sure to direct me straight here." Milton said. "It will take me a bit to get it into shape; I need to learn the Staff and let them get to know my... " He thought for a Second. "Style. I passed through on my way here and almost had to stop being a Kid in a new toy store." Milton chuckled. "It is a fine bit of Labs and Medical, I figure the next few days I will be exclusive to it and then I will arrange my quarters; you know, priorities and all?"

"Sound priorities Doctor," Leonard replied, "however, bare in mind that we are still in dock for several more days whilst the refit is finalised, so I would suggest that now is probably a good opportunity to take your personal time." He smiled then, adding, "before your too busy to do anything else again."

"I am not a dull Boy Captain." Milton badly quote the old saying. "My work is my play but I also like to get out and stretch the legs a bit." He nod to his Commanding Officer. "I will take the time to make sure we also have all we need, we have a good Operations crew right?"

"Commander Kane manages a good team, Doctor," Leonard replied.

"That is good to know Captain." Milton agreed. "I will use my leave and check on a few speciality items I might get my hand on Sir, I will not be only in Sickbay till we depart."

"No contraband, I'm sure, Doctor?" the Captain asked. And whilst it didn't sound like a question, it most certainly was.

"I assure you that unless you count some herbal Medicines as contraband I will mostly getting equipment and Emergency supplies." Milton assured. "I have found that on some alien biologies the herbal supplements and medicines help better than our synthesized ones and there are several you might call 'Raw Materials' for making antidotes for several known diseases that seem to crop up. Also one Security Officer named Grayson is an alien race that are ones who exists more heavily with the nature side of their planet. I thought having the option for basic medicinal variable might be the Ounce of prevention." He grinned. "I study a lot so I like having a few extra options you know?"

To that, the Captain understood. "It's good to be cautious Doctor. I'm pleased to hear that you are implementing steps to cater for the specific needs of the crew in your care."

"Who does not put the best for family?" Milton replied. "I warn you I try to make Sick Bay a little warmer than most; people are more likely to come to the Doctor if they are comfortable with me and my Sick Bay." He grinned. "Or as I like to call it, 'Doc's Place' as it sounds more inviting."

"That does make a certain amount of sense, Doctor," the Leonard replied. "I tend to back off from my department heads, and allow you all the freedom to run your departments as you see fit," the Captain paused then, before adding, "I would have little need of you if I intended to micro-manage the way you do things."

"With all due respects; I try to not take up mental space of the Captain." He said with a grin. "You can worry about other squeaky wheels and Sick Bay will quietly function as needed."

Leonard nodded, "I do like to keep my mental space free, Lieutenant."

"I will do my best." Milton rose. "I should be getting back to know my staff if you do not mind Sir?" Milton offered a handshake. "It was a pleasure meeting you."

The Captain stood, taking the Doctor's hand, and giving it a firm shake. "Indeed, Carry on Doctor..."
