Mission:
The Lost Brother
Location: Ready Room
Lt. Commander Wagnor stood at the door and press the chime.
Xavier paused reading the reports, and going over the latest on the disappearance of the team. He sighed, it wasn't like it was going to be easy. "Enter." He called as he set it down.
Soran enter the room. "Lieutenant Commander Soran Wagnor reporting for reporting for duty," He stood and at attention.
""At ease Commander" Xavier replied, offering a seat. "Coffee tea?"
"Raktajino please "
He positioned his chair so that he could see the door and visually scanned the room as he sat down. Rationally he realized how safe he actually was, but these were habits from a more tribute time in his life.
"Anything I can make you feel more at ease, I understand that there has been, circumstances that may have left you feeling distrustful."
He paused for a moment He wasn't entirely sure what the captain was referencing. He leaned back in his chair and looked his captain in the eye.
"The Lister has some close calls In the fleet's recent skirmishes of the Klingons. that have left me… vigilant…"
He sipped his Raktajino. "As for trust I find it to be too valuable a commodity to invest it frivolously, I make a point of making sound investments."
"As one should. There was just a few additions to your file stating that trust is something you use... sparingly... unsure if they meant it the way they made it sound."
He shook his head, "Sound like someone was talking my ex."
He took another sip of his drink, "In all seriousness some people find my caution and vigilance off putting. It created a great deal of conflict between me and Lester's First officer."
"In my understanding the current XO of this ship is familiar to you, I hope that allows you to... how some people would call relax a little on this ship."
"We've been friends since the Academy." He smiled, " it will be good to work with her. I think I will have an easier time adjusting to this vessel."
"If there is anything you need, my office is always open Commander."
"Now that we've addressed my trust issues do you have any other questions Captain?" He said expectantly.
Captain Carey was not what he expected and that threw him off slightly. He liked the man and compassion seemed genuine, still…
"I wouldn't call them issues commander. I would call them things we need to work on. Trust is earned after all. We are a new crew to you, new faces... an adjustment for everyone involved, being security chief, that is something that is harder to gain... we deal with security and we aren't at the luxury of thinking everyone is on our side. Being from that department myself, my wife being formerly assistant chief security. Stepped down to allow another officer to take up the position that she felt warranted the position better." He paused and leaned back. "Now how about you. Questions for me as your new CO. Got to warn you, this is my first command."
Soran look at Xavier, he didn't know how to respond. He'd rarely felt so welcome, "I need to inform you of a potential security risk."
"Oh?"
"Computer, Many people are in the Ready Room?" He asked.
#one
"My skin cells masks my life signs from the ships sensors," the Angosian explained.
"I call that more of a risk should we ever need to beam you out from somewhere." He paused. "How would you feel having the doctor implant something that can detect your life signs. Merely for away teams and the like, I prefer knowing all my officers are doing fine. If not, there are other things we can do to avoid that. I suppose."
A monitoring circuit has been added to my combadge to make it easier to locate and monitor me if necessary. With my life signs drop lower than normal resting Sensors have an easier time picking me up." Soran explained.
"That makes it a little easier, plus less invasive of privacy." Xavier replied. "If there is nothing else Commander."
"I think about covers everything," he smiled.
Nodding. "Dismissed."
The Angosian nodded in return and exited the room.
