Mission: The Lost Brother
Location: 10 forward
Timeline: Current

ON:

Slouk entered the Ten forward lounge, found a table, and sat down order an herbal tea, he was not so discretely observing the behaviors of the occupants of the lounge and siping his tea he always found the social interactions among different species, intriguing so he sat and observed.

Arriving at ten forward for her break, Sky chose herself a light snack and a lemonade before moving across to a table. She was about to take a seat when she noticed a new face, she smiled politely as moved closer to introduce herself. “Hi, I hope I’m not intruding? I thought I’d introduce myself, I’m Sky Jansen Chief Counsellor.”

"Greetings, Counsellor, I am Slouk the new Assist Chief Science officer, Your presence will aid in my current endeavor," Slouk replied in his cold monotoned voice.

“It’s nice to meet you Slouk. Do you mind if I join you?” Sky smiled, then gave him a curious look. “What would your current endeavour be?”

"Please Counselor sit, I am currently studying the social interactions of non-Vulcans I'm curious as to how races with such unbridle emotions have managed not to destroy themselves as my people nearly did before the awakening." He replied coldly

Taking a seat Sky smiled. “That’s quite a project, so many races to study the interactions between. So how are your studies coming along? What have you learned so far?”

"The study is progressing at a slow pace, due to my limited exposure to some of the races, and my lack of understanding of emotions and their influences on behavior, but what have ascertained to this point is, Klingons while typical an aggressive and conquer race can be made see reason and even if one can appeal to their complicated and contradictort\y sense of honor, The Romulans, however, are much more complicated, I find particularly intriguing as Romulans and Vulcan share a common ancestry and the Romulans as people are very emotional, and a conflicted people, while the reunification movement started by Ambassador Spock is growing it, is doing so at less than optimal speed due to persecution and Oppression of the Romulan majority. The Ferengi as ruled by Greed and lust and hard to negotiate with it takes a considerable amount of effort to get to them to make fair and equitable trades. Betazoids are very interesting as the emotions they feel are multiplied extensionally, not only do they have their own emotions to deal with but also the emotions of every in at least the immediate vicinity of them as well. Humans are the most puzzling because they lack control of their emotions and act most illogical at times even by their own standards." Replied in a way as if he was presenting thesis at the Vulcan science academy rather have a causal conversation.

“You’ve certainly been giving this a lot of thought, and study.” She absentmindedly tucked her hair behind her pointed ears as she spoke. “Being half Betazoid I have to keep my mind shielded to an extent, I try to keep my mental barriers up to keep out most of the emotions I sense, not that it always holds up, but there’s always the background hum of voices. As for Humans they’re complicated, but they’re also special each in their own way.”

Slouk looked at her ears, "Given you have already stated you half Betazoid, given the nature of your work and an what Logical be a constant bombardment of emotion, Would be more than a Half Vulcan could bear, the logical conclusion given aspects of physical appearance recently revealed you are also Half Romulan." Slouk replied with a rise point eyebrow.

Sky nodded. “You are quite correct Slouk. My father is Romulan, but I have never met him, and as far as I know he knows nothing of my existence.” She paused to sip her drink, and eat some of her food. “I’m not sure what part my Romulan half plays, I rely more on my Betazoid half.”

Slouk took a sip of his tea "Intriguing, I know of only 2 other Romulan Hybrids A Klingon one and a human one, despite the vast Biological, and physiological differences of all 4 species the common fact is the pointed ears, other than that all the Hybrids I know of had almost no physical Romulan traits." he replied.

“The ears are all I have too.” Sky smiled. “I don’t know whether Romulans have mental abilities like Betazoids and Vulcans do. They’re not known for mind melds like Vulcans.”

"It is possible for telepaths or other species to learn the technique, therefore it is plausible the Romulans could perform it as well, I do not know if a Romulan has even attempted a meld, but the most logical ones to have attempted it are members of the Reunification movement, and the Tal'Shiar, and then some races than resit a meld, Cardassians for example," Slouk said

Sky nodded. “You’ve certainly done your homework, as the saying goes, when it comes to other races. How do you find working with others? There are those who find Vulcans cold, maybe even arrogant.”

"I find other races to be most illogical, but many possess qualities My people do not, so as Intuition, guile, deceit, empathy, and unconventional thinking," he replied stone-faced, and typical flat monotoned cadence to his words.

“That’s very true” Sky nodded. “In a way purging your emotions puts you at both an advantage, and disadvantage. You lose the capacity for empathy, but your logic is second to none. There are pros and cons on both sides.”

"Indeed, to study these pros and cons first hand Is why I serve in Starfleet, rather than the Vulcan science directorate."

“Starfleet’s gain, the Science Directorate’s loss” Sky offered a smile. “I would appreciate learning more about my Romulan half, your studies may help with that.”

"Indeed, as I previously stated they are currently a divided people, with the current majority wanting to keep with old ways of empire and the smaller but ever-growing minority seeking a new path and reunification."

Sky nodded. “I’ve heard about that, reunification would benefit the Romulans, but as you said there is a larger majority against them.”

"Yes, but we Vulcans are a patient people, and in time perhaps the logic of reunification will spread to the Majority of the Romulan populous."

Sky nodded. “Perhaps it will.” She offered a smile. “It’s been nice talking to you Slouk.”

"It was beneficial to speak with as well counselor." the Vulcan said coldly.

Sky stood ready to leave. “Oh one more thing before I go, please stop by my office for your boarding psych evaluation. Just regulation as I’m sure you know.”

"Indeed, I shall do so in 1 hour 23 minutes, and 12 seconds." Slouk replied

“Excellent” Sky smiled. “In that case I’ll see you there Slouk.” With that, she headed on her way.

Slouk displayed a Vulcan salute and said "live long and prosper Counselor."

Sky returned the salute. “Peace and long life Slouk” with that she headed on her way.
