A fortuitous arrival

Posted on Sun Jun 26th, 2022 @ 2:14pm by Captain Xavier Carey & Lieutenant Slouk

Mission: The Lost Brother
Location: Shuttle bay
Timeline: Current

ON:

Xavier had called Miss Bryant to the shuttle bay, another arrival by shuttle, with the new assistant chief sciences. His resume, well scieences were never his forte, so he guessed they were ok, since they sent him here.

"Looks like you've got a new officer under you miss Bryant."

"I don't even get to read his credentials first?" She teased the captain, with good humor in her voice. Part of her had hoped she would have some say in how her team was built.

Slouk processed down the shuttle's ramp his Sehlat cat following close behind him, he saw the two people standing near the end of the ramp, one with captain's pip and the other with no rank, he haled in front them displayed a traditional Vulcan salute, "I am Slouk, Live long and prosper." he said with a stoic expression on his face, showing no hint of any emotion, and monotoned voice cold and emotionless.

Paige was surprised to see the Sehlat, as the fierce predictors didn't often find their way into Starships. A trickle of fear traced down her spine at the sight of the huge creature.

"Remind me to keep a close eye on the animal exhibits." Xavier replied as he pause before approaching. "Captain Xavier Carey, this is Miss Bryant, Chief science officer onboard the ship, and your new Chief."

"Captain, Miss Bryant, I have been assigned as your new assistant Chief, science officer, I hold Vulcaninan doctorates in Physics, theoretical physics, and anthropology, and Xeno anthropology. As well As Vulcaian Master degrees, in Astrophysics and astrometrics, as well as being a Starfleet academy honor graduate," he said as he lowered his salute and extend a PADD. "You can see my full orders and credentials here," he replied as his Sehlat rubbed against his pants left, and began to purr.

Looking at the bear-like creature Paige chuckled at the rumbling purr. It was more difficult to be afraid of a purring creature, and she suspected it was intentional "I didn't realize ursines could purr."

"Ahh, Yes my apologies I usually ask permission before bringing my pet Sehlat onboard, but due to the urgency of the orders and the need to produce travel I didn't have time to make other arrangements, As for the Purring I believe it is more of a modified growl than than a feline purr, though I admit to humans they a likely auditorily similar." The Vulcan replied in a cold monotoned voice as glanced down the Sehlat

Raising an eyebrow at the credentials. "Not bad. Your quarters are being assigned as we speak, and Miss Bryant can show you your new office as well as go over anything needed that's being run within the sciences."

"A most logical process Captain, Miss Bryant proceed at your convenience," Slouk Replied in typical Vulcan fashion.

Paige took the outstretched PADD and tucked it into her back pocket so she could go over his credentials at her leisure. "I have tried to streamline the Science department some. My office has my personal laboratory space attached, adjacent to it. I did the same with your office, though if you have a different laboratory preference we can easily move your office. You will of course have access to all the open labs should you wish to expand."

"It sounds most efficient Miss Bryant." He replied in typical Vulcan fashion

"Thank you. Do you have a preference for your personal research?" Her long legs had taken them easily to the turbolift.

"Miss Byrant, there several connotations do question, to which are you referring?" The Vulcan asked with a stoic expression, and monotoned voice

"You have multiple degrees and from that I assume multiple scientific interests. Your lab assignment will look different if you are researching theoretical physics than if you're doing anthropology or astrometrics. I can give you a lab in all those areas if you wish."

As the lift came to a stop, Xavier turned. "I am not versed in these terms, and am the odd man out." He smiled. "Im going to let you guys get all geeky without me."

"Very well Captain, Miss Bryant a lab in each of mentioned areas would most effient ."

Paige twiddled her fingers at the Captain in a gesture of farewell. Her inner good humor rose at the cheekyness with which he referred to himself as the old man. "Consider it done. One lab in each area."

"Excellent, a most efficient setup, as I can have multiple projects running simultaneously and each field, therefore, maximize my productivity." Replied
