Introductions (backpost)

Posted on Sat Jul 23rd, 2022 @ 6:26pm by Lieutenant Commander Aalis Rinne

Mission: The Lost Brother
Location: Wagnor's Office

Soran sat playing his harmonica in his office as he waited for his Assistant Chief. It was time for the weekly security briefing. This was something from his processor, but he saw no reason to change it. This was his first official Chief position, he had command experience in more militant organizations. He still had trouble with some of the Fleet culture, so he was hoping to get along with his assistant.

Aalis had a cup of coffee in one hand and the weekly report on the PADD in the other. After the chime went, the door opened and she stepped through with a slight smile. "Chief," she said as she walked in and handed him the PADD. "The weekly report." She took a seat after he took it from her and folded her hands into her lap with the cup in the middle of her laced fingers.

"Thank you Lieutenant." Soran said, taking the PADD. "Seeing as I'm new here, is there anything I should know."

"Nothing out of the ordinary to report. We've had our fair shares of ups and downs lately. However, it seems like we're in a neutral position right now," Aalis commented on his question. "How are you seeming to settle in?" she asked, opening the dialogue to the situation. She had a feeling that this meeting was more about the meet and greet, get to know one another than their other encounters had seemed to be previously.

"It will take some getting used to," Soran Admitted. "These Galaxy class starships are so big, I haven't dealt with so many civilians since I served on a Starbase."

She laughed lightly. "There are now less civilians than there were before; they still exist though. I have to say I like it much better than living on a Starbase or working planetside at a permanent assignment instead of the nomadic nature of being able to see the quadrant."

Soran smiled, "I like seeing the Quadrant as well. What got you into security?"

"It was the best way that I could make a difference. My hobbies growing up were active hobbies. I liked doing a lot of things outside and being active with my hands. I like various forms of combat, so I figured that I would use my talents to benefit others," she smiled. "You?"

"I joined Starfleet looking for purpose and I have knack for protecting people, so security was the obvious choice." He said.

It was an overly simplified explanation but it didn't feel like going into his past. Any security officer worth their salt would have read his file already and that he Angosian and served in the Talsion War.

Aalis had read his file and knew what his experience was. It was one of her things that she did is that she read people's profiles, and then still asked them what some would consider stupid questions. She liked to gage how people respond to stressor questions. It helped with learning other's tells, as well as quirks. "That's one of the main things that makes a good security officer, knack for protecting people. The officers I question are the ones that look towards combat first. While my hobbies are active hobbies, it wasn't the combat that I sought." What she did get out of the conversation was the not mentioning of the painful past. Her previous hosts had experience with trauma and seeing various wars throughout the centuries.

"Those who seek combat have something to prove," Wagnor explained. "As officers in command we I need to give them better ways to prove themselves."

"I agree. I like assessing situations when I can, and being able to respond when time doesn't allow for assessment," she commented in response to his valid explanation.

"I've seen enough combat to last a lifetime," Soran looked away for a moment. "I did not have what most would call a traditional family, I help dealing with civilians and the crew families onboard."

A small genuine smile crossed Aalis' face. "Ship life is like that isn't it? Just one big family. Traditional families, ship families, crew families, all the same. Sometimes ship families and crew families have better bonds than traditional families. I consider myself fortunate that I get to have my family here with my ship family."

"I'm not very good at bonding, I don't relate well to families." Soran stated. "So like I said I may need your help, not looking like a fool."

"That I can help you out with, Sir. With that said, anything else?" she asked.

"Thank you Rinne," he nodded. "That will be all."
