Mission: The Lost Brother
Soran was nervous as he walked down the corridor with Tony at his side, they were practically shoulder to shoulder. He wanted to hold her hand, but it wasn't appropriate at this time. They going to tell her mother about their relationship, he Alexandra she had always seemed to like him. Still…
Aleck was trying to relax. The last weeks had been such rollercoaster. Hearing about Nick going missing, finding him, not knowing if she still had a job. It was hard to relax without panicking about the future.
Soran stood outside the door and gave Tony an expected look, indicating that she should press the chime. His heart was in his throat, he was visiblaly nervous.
"Aww you are adorable." She said as she pressed the chime.
Aleck opened the door. She was so much an older version of her daughter. Her dark spiky hair had only slight touches of gray. She was in excellent shape as well as a serving marine. On seeing her daugher and her friend her face softenened.
"Baby boo." She said as she embraced Tony. "You look tired, boo." She then turned to Ren. "Renny. Come let me give you a hug as well."
Soran smiled, "of course Aleck."
He embrace her and kissed her cheek, the Stoffels were like family to the orphaned Angosian.
"I am so glad you are here to keep an eye on Antonia." Aleck said.
"Mom!" Tony protested.
"You will always be my little girl, boo."
Tony rolled her eyes and looked at Ren. Suddenly she did not know how to start.
"As the chief of security I'm mindful of everyone's safety. Now your daughter is an independent, intelligent woman who's capable of looking after herself and asking for help when she needs it." Soran said quietly.
"I keep saying that you two should have gone into the corps. You are wasted in the navy." She knew that Ren would keep an eye out for Tony he had always done so.
"Mom, Ren and I are dating." There that was done. No more pussyfooting around it.
Part of Aleck was surprised but another part of her wasn't. Not at all. She looked at the young man. "That is lovely, boo. Would you wait outside while I have a word with Renny?"
"Mom!"
"It's alright Tony." Soran smiled, he had expected this.
"I will be right outside." Tony said. she cast a worried glance at Ren and then left.
"Have a seat, Ren." Aleck said when Tony had left. She suddenly looked every inch the marine colonel. "Soooo what are your plans with my daughter." The southern drawl was way more distinct now.
Soran sat down and looked the Colonel in the eye, "I plan to take things slowly and see where this goes. I've only come to terms with the way I feel about Tony recently."
She was not phased by him at all. "I know the two of you have been friends for years. And you are dear to me, Ren. Tony may seem tough, but she has very little experience with relationships and sex." Hell no she was not afraid to talk about it for her daughter's sake. "She is naive as hell, Ren. Where you... well... I have my sources."
"What exactly are your concerns," Soran appreciated her cander.
"Let's be honest, from my records you have never had a relationship that lasted longer than 4 months. My Tony still believes in the knight in shining armor. It would kill her if you dropped her after a few months and moved on to the next woman. I need to know that you are committed. Well you know what her father would do to you if you weren't." She showed her teeth. They both knew it was not Richard he needed to worry about.
"I have no intention of dropping Tony, There are things your sources have no way of knowing. The majority of my partners have dropped me and I don't blame them." He swallowed hard and stared at the floor. "I'm not very good at this and Tony's aware of that. She's also put me on a pedestal and I am worried about what will happen when I screw up."
'As long as you love her that will be fine. She has also been your therapist so she has seen you at your lowest point as well. It's just the romantic bit I am worried about. She has never let anyone get this close before."
"I've only had one long relationship, we were friends from the time we were teens. We went off to war together, she didn't come back and I haven't had a relationship anywhere close to that. Until now, I love your daughter and I'm scared. Soran looked her in the eye. "That's why I've resisted this, I'm afraid of losing anyone else."
"Oh baby." Aleck opened her arms to him. "Don't be scared to love. It is much worse never to love."
He hugged her, "I hope your heart isn't set on grandchildren. I've been told that The genetic and chemical enhancements that were done to me have made reproduction nearly impossible."
He felt weird telling her that, but he honestly didn't know how to say it to Tony.
"Talk to her about it. I have no idea if she wants kids or not. If you want kids there is always adopting. But I am not pushing. My dad did enough of that to last me a life time. There is one thing you can do for me now, Ren."
"What would that be?" Soran asked.
"Can you talk to Nicky? His therapist says that he is severely distressed but he won't talk to his sister or to me. I am very worried about him. He may talk to you."
He nodded, "I can do that. I chose Fleet instead of Marines, because I had hoped to put battle behind me. Perhaps Nick needs a different branch of service?"
'If you ask me he needs out of the armed forces all together." Aleck said honestly. "But he thinks it would dissapoint us. It's his grandfather who has drummed this into his head. Sometimes I could kill my father."
"Why don't we call Tony back in? She's probably put a grove in the deck plate outside the door."
Aleck laughed. "Go be with her."
Soran nodded and walked into the hall.
Tony was on him in seconds. "And? What did she say?"
He paused, "She's worried about Nick and wants me to speak to him."
"you know what I mean. What did she say about us?" She had pushed the worry about her brother to the background for now.
"She had some concerns given my track record, but we have her blessing." Soran smiled and brushed a stray hair out of her face and gently stroked her ear.
"Told you so." Tony said enjoying his attention. "My parents love you to bits."
"We have quite a few things to talk about," Soran smiled. " Want to get dinner in my quarters?"
"Ok that sounds good." Right now she wanted to spend as much time with him as possible.
"I have the Boucher's family chicken jambalaya recipe in my replicator and a good bottle of wine." Soran smiled and took her hand.
"Oh that sounds very nice. And... should I stay over?" Her heart was beating wildly and she really did not know what she wanted him to say.
"Things seems to be going in that direction," He said as reached his quarters. "I think we're long past the getting to know your stage, let's see how we feel after dinner."
She giggled. "Yeah that took us long enough." Her heart was in her throat and now she knew what it was to feel both terror and happiness in the same moment.
