Mission:
The Mentarin Effect
Location: Ten Forward
Timeline: Current
Ltjg. Diana Morrison, Asst. Chief Counselor
Petty Officer 3rd Class Alexis Martin, Counselor's Aide
*****
Since the Resolution left space dock, Diana had spent the majority of the time in her office. For many of the crew on board this was the first time having the chance to bring family on an assignment. In many ways this was a great thing, but it didn't take long for her schedule to become full with counseling sessions. Not only was trapped in the office, but so was her aide Alexis Martin. Sitting at he table in the lounge, the Lieutenant waited for Alexis to arrive for lunch.
The door opened to the lounge opened as Alexis walked in carrying several PADDs in hand. "Sorry I'm late."
Diana simply smiled. "Your right on time. Besides its just a chance for us to get out of the office and eat."
"Well, I brought your schedule for the week," Alexis replied placing the items on the edge of the table.
"We'll get to that eventually," Di assured her. "Right now, I just need for you to relax and enjoy the meal were about to have."
"Sorry I thought this was strictly a work lunch. Not too many officers eat with the enlisted personnel outside of a working lunch."
Morrison couldn't help but to chuckle. Alexis reminded her so much of herself when she arrived on her first posting. She was a few years younger for the record, but still so eager not to mess up and cross some line. "Being a counselor I get to do things a little different than most officers."
Alexis allowed herself a sigh of relief. "Alright I will relax and enjoy lunch."
"Good," Di replied as she waved for the waiter to come over. "So where are you from originally?"
"Earth," Alexis answered. "San Antonio to be exact."
"You grow up out there?"
"Yes ma'am. So how do you think things will go with this mission?"
Diana thought about the question briefly. "This sounds like it will be your standard mission of diplomacy. Been on several missions like this. Should be fairly stress free for those of us on board."
"Just wondering if we should be doing something to prepare?" Alexis asked.
"Don't stress over it too much. This is above us at the moment. If the Captain requires our assistance on the matter, he contact us."
Alexis took a deep breathe. "Your right. I need to stop stressing over the little things."
"Why do you stress so much?" Di inquired. "If you don't mind me asking."
"Not really sure to be honest," Alexis admitted. "Figured being around counselors would build up my confidence. But its actually making me a nervous wreck."
"How so?"
"Its as if you can see right through me. Your literally trained to read people, even they're body language. It can be pretty intimidating."
Diana couldn't help but to chuckle. "I can see where your coming from. Suppose I never looked at myself or others like me as being intimidating."
"I meant no disrespect," Martin replied.
"Trust me you are not being disrespectful," Morrison assured the younger woman. "Just relax and be yourself true self. Everything will fall in place."
"Alright then. So shall we order now."
"We definitely should," the Lieutenant answered.
