A Rushed Arrival
Posted on Sat Jan 9th, 2021 @ 3:33pm by Warrant Officer Eitan Tuscadero & Lieutenant Sky Jansen-Carey
Mission:
Welcome Aboard
Location: Transporter Room & Various
{ON}
~ USS Wildcat ~
Sky stood in her quarters finishing off her last bag, most of her things were already boxed and ready to go across to her new ship. She tended to travel light as there wasn’t much point in having a lot of belongings to ship around when transferred between ships.
=/\= Lieutenant Jansen to the transporter room, we’re approaching the USS Resolution. =/\=
Sky reached to her comm badge and tapped it. “Jansen here, I’m on my way.”
She took one last look at her empty quarters before picking up her bag and heading for the transporter room. She knew this was going to be a hit and run transport, no stopping given the location of the Resolution.
~ USS Resolution ~
Eitan Tuscadero was standing at his station, right behind the transporter console, checking the communications with his counterparts aboard the USS Wildcat. He responded to them that he was standing by and when he received the 'all clear' he began the transport.
His hands moved like a musician as he began the process. Soon the humanoid shape of an individual began to take form. In a matter of moments the woman's figure became less transparent and solid. "Welcome aboard the USS Resolution, ma'am. I am happy to inform you that you made it in one piece."
Sky stood on the transporter pad for a moment getting her bearings, she smiled as she looked towards the transporter Chief. “Thank you” She slowly stepped down, “That was some transport! I don’t normally notice any disorientation, but the Chief on the Wildcat did say I might notice it due to the rapid drop off.”
"Not exactly a by the book transport. I came down myself to personally oversee it. I have good men and women underneath me, but they are still young."
“I appreciate your skills Chief!” Sky smiled warmly. “I’m Sky by the way, Sky Jansen the new Chief Counsellor.”
"Just doing my job, ma'am," replied Tully. "Happy to have you aboard. I'll be sure to set up an appointment to see you soon."
“In that case I’ll see you then.” Sky grinned and nodded politely before heading out of the transporter room. First things first she planned on finding her office, to drop off her hand baggage and freshen up quick before making her presence known to the Command Staff.
Tully locked the transporter controls, securing his station as the woman walked out. She was gone from the room before he could offer any assistance. With his station secure, he paged for a relief operator to come take over as he proceeded to the exit and out into the corridor he saw the woman a further down way.
"Ma'am," he called out to her as he proceeded heading towards her with a small smile. "Would you like any assistance?" he asked offering to carry luggage.
Sky smiled as she stopped walking and turned to look. “That’s very kind of you Chief” she put down a small sized case she was carrying. “I generally pack light but if you’d like to help then who am I to refuse.”
The Transporter Specialist chuckled. "I pack light as well," he replied as he took the woman's luggage. It was indeed quite light and a small sized case. "Working the transporters you get to see a lot of people arrive be they crew or guests. I like to make everyone feel a warm welcome aboard."
“So how long have you served onboard the Resolution?” Sky gave Tuscadero a curious look.
"Oh, I am still new here myself, Ma'am," replied Tully. "I came aboard a short while back, but I have been finding myself at home here aboard the Resolution."
“I’m glad” Sky smiled warmly. “I’m grateful I had someone of your skill to beam me over. I’ve never done a hit and run transport before!” She grinned.
Tully chuckled "Wait until you experience trying to be transported from a pocket universe or a different realm," the man teased. He escorted the woman into a turbo life and directed it to the appropriate deck.
"Do you have a specialization, Ma'am?" he inquired. A fair question he thought. Like medical physicians, they sometimes went towards a specialization. "If you don't mind my asking of course."
“Well I took the psychology track at Betazed University, that covered space psychology, and the general areas of psychology, but I have to admit I like working with children. Paediatric psychology and counselling was covered during my training at the Academy and it was by far a definite favourite. I don’t have specialities listed because I want to be an all round counsellor. If that makes any sense?”
"Makes perfect sense to me ma'am," replied Tully as the lift had reached it's destination and he gestured her to exit first, following her out and then leading down the corridor. "I sought to add a bit of versatility to myself as well. I started as enlisted because I couldn't get into the academy. I picked my way through repairing replicators to operating transported, but I'm also a certified shuttle pilot, and I've put in some hours at the helm in my previous posting."
“In that case I know who to come to if I ever need a shuttle pilot.” Sky smiled and gave Tully a curious look. “So without sounding too nosey, why is it you couldn’t get into the Academy? Refusals are generally few and far between.”
"Not entirely," he replied. "More people get rejected than we'd like to think about. Some of the best Captains even were rejected once or twice before finally getting accepted. My problem was and I quote 'Not officer material' which came about for a few reasons, but claustrophobia and space sickness was what did me in. I did great on the technical aspect of the entrance examinations, but not so well in other areas."
Sky nodded. “I hadn’t really stopped to think about it before but I guess you’re right. I suppose if they accepted every single application the Academy simply wouldn’t cope! Either that or they’d another campus.” She smiled warmly. “Well you’re here now and that’s what matters.”
"That is true," replied Tully. "They do pride themselves on their main campus in San Francisco, the satellite ones just don't offer as much. That is how I like to look at it as well. I am here now, and getting this commission through warrant isn't bad. I love doing what I am doing." Tully walked her right to the doorway of her quarters. "Here we are, Counsellor. Your quarters. I'll let you get settled, but if you need anything, I'm just a commbadge call away."
“Thank you very much” Sky smiled and offered a brief polite hug for his trouble. “You are a treasure and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!”
Tully blushed and smiled, turning his head a bit and looking down at his boots. "Aw shucks," he replied and chuckled a little. "I won't ma'am. I promise I'll keep my chin up and see the sunny skies anywhere I go," he added. "Again, welcome to the Resolution. You have a nice day, ma'am." The man walked gleefully down the corridor as he headed back to the turbo lift with the warm blush on his cheeks still felt as it slowly faded.
