Mission:
Evacuation
Location: USS Resolution Sickbay
Sam need a physical as per regulations when joining a new assignment to make sure that all was well and health was in order to conduct duties. It was not something she particularly enjoyed but there was nothing she could do about it and complaining would not change it. All she could do was to accept it, get it out of the way and start her new assignment. She'd managed to make sure what little effects she brought with her was taken to her quarters so as she walked into Sickbay to begin her physical.
"Out in a tick" Ishir called when he heard the beep of the proximity alarm that let him know that someone had entered sickbay for him. "Find a biobed and settle in. "
Doing just that Sam walked to a vacant bed and sat on it patiently waiting. She could see that others were there too, physicals, check ups, one or two resting flat in beds. It had been a while since she was last horizontal in one, and hoped it would be a while before she was again.
Ishir exitied from the supply room with a hypospray in one hand and an ankle immobilizer in the other. He wrapped the ankle of a young man and had a brief conversation with him and Lt. Donati before the crewman slid off the bed and vacated the spot he was in. Then Bianca and Ishir's attention was on Sam. "Morning."
"Doctor." Sam spoke before looking up. She saw a young woman and a young man before her, the woman was stunning in appearance donned in a blue uniform. "Snyder, Major Samantha Snyder. I just arrived on board and wanted to get my joining physical out of the way."
"We appreciate not having to hunt you down Major" a smile quirked at Bianca's lips and she met Sam's eyes with her own whiskey brown ones. I am Bianca Donati, a biologist doing herbal work here under Dr. Sothay. He's doing the work and I am just looking for ways alternative medicine can be applied. I think I'd be the one hunting you down, though the marine second would not be difficult to find. "
"Sometimes it's not for the lack of trying believe me." Sam replied thinking of times that she had so much admin work to do but kept being interrupted in doing it.
A snort escaped the doctor and the biologist at the same time and the absurdity of the combination of sounds had Bianca laughing while her cheeks colored "Sorry. Not intending to be rude."
"It's alright, part of the job." Sam replied. The pleasant banter however was a welcome lift to the mountain that awaited her as she would settle into her new position on board.
"You could automate it, the paperwork I mean" the doctor said softly as he ran a scanner down from Sam's head to the toes of her boots.
"And take away my time in relative silence away from complaining marines. Thank you but no, I enjoy that too much." Sam joked, she knew the plus sides for getting a task done but there were perks to taking her time, peace and being left alone was certianly one of them.
Bianca laughed, a genuine smile lighting her face, from the polite mask that had been there before. "I won't tell anyone that you said so"
Sam smiled. "Thanks." A moments silence followed as she took in the view around her in Sickbay. "Busy day for you?" Seeing that staff were busy dealing with others seeking medical services.
"Sort of." It was Dr. Sothay that answered, the polite mask dropping back over his features. "I'm assigned to physicals today, which means I get a lot of work done on my secondary project with Lieutenant Donati. She's a goddess when it comes to herbs and well she makes mixtures that can do things no medicines can do. I'd love to know more about it in my infinite free time."
"Well sorry to say that I came in with several transports of new arrivals, so I think I'm just the start of many." Not that Sam wanted to rain on her passion but sometimes a heads up could go a long way in planning for the later.
Ishir sighed deeply and shook his head. Bianca however gave a slow nod as she processed that information. Briefly she chewed on her lip- thinking about what that meant for the ship. "All marines, or a mixture?"
"Mostly marines, replacements, transfers or reassignments." Sam answered letting the Doctor do his work. "The Colonel should be walking through the door soon too, he had to go to the marine deck before coming back here."
Bianca whistled through her teeth at that statement and cocked her head to one side as she read the Bioscan she'd just done. It was a charming gesture that she did unknowingly as she read. "More data points for me I would guess, right Doc? Prick your finger on the reader for a blood analysis please. " she pointed to the hand shaped scanner.
Lifting her hand and did as asked of her, its not that it hurt but she'd had plenty of experience with 'sharp' things in her career and one more was hardly something she'd welcome. She was waiting on the grilling about weight, diet and the like since leaving the Dreadnought she'd hardly kept her usual routine especially since going to Risa.
"Stress markers are kind of high there Major. If I may assume that, said stressor is why you haven't been eating enough?"
"Change of assignment, some...personal issues, some time off that was supposed to be time off but I struggled to do that." Sam replied giving her a straight answer, even if part of it was vague. "A constant battle, I know."
"Indeed it is. Fixable though, with time and effort." the tone of her voice indicated that she knew precisely what she was talking about. Briefly she was curious what her personal issues had been but, she declined to ask at this moment. "This is however, what I am best at. I'm going to give you a couple of supplements to balance out the fact that you haven't been eating enough."
Great, supplements....Sam inwardly spoke. This was not the first time and doubted it would be the last too. "Sure." Sam would take them because the Doctor ordered her to, but seldom did she enjoy doing so because it was a reminder of yet again working too hard which lately was a good thing to spare her mind from lingering on things.
A hypospray hissed at her throat, as if it was answering her inner thoughts. "I recommend, eating what you like. No fancy diets or things like that, but...Indulge yourself a little with it. It's not going to hurt your fitrep or your ability to pass a PT exam."
Now that was a surprising turn from the pleasant Doctor. "Now comes the problem of what." Sam answered, options were aplenty sure but nailing one down as a choice was the difficult part. Thankfully her quarters were once again private enough that she could have what she liked and nobody had to know or judge her for it. She still had to unpack a few things to make her quarters more homely but that would happen with time.
"Whats the most indulgent thing you can think of?" Bianca asked as she drew up another hypospray and allowed it to press slightly below where she'd placed the first.
"Icecream, in a long shirt, candles, sofa and something to watch." Sam replied, even on Risa that was her regular attire and mostly because she didn't go anywhere. Though she spent most of it working she let a few standards drop, just a little, and briefly.
"Great. Do it." she met her eyes for a moment before looking away. It was still difficult for Bianca to maintain eye contact with anyone, but she found brief eye contact to be effective.
"Your birth control implant is due for a replacement. Any plans for a pregnancy or shall I replace it now?" Ishir continued where Bianca had left off, as the woman was getting together the supplements she wanted to give the Marine. He spoke in a calm, almost placid tone of voice.
"Pregnancy?" Sam replied. "Right gear Doc, wrong manual." Sam spoke surprised that she admitted that men were the least of her interests, in so many words at least. "It can wait, at least until I'm settled in and made things more of a home for myself."
"Replacement it is" he replied without missing a beat. Reaching out for a second scanner he quietly instructed "Jacket off please"
Sam would have groaned in protest but she knew it was pointless to, it wouldn't change the outcome. Unfastening her jacket which in a way was a literal breath of fresh air since it was a little tight. Her grey undershirt clung to her frame but that was normal for her, always had been. Placing the removed jacket down by her feet she waited.
Touching the scanner to her arm he traced it lightly over the skin until it beeped. Then he pressed the collection end to her just over where it beeped and pushed a button till it clicked. Then, he switched modes on the thing, and another beep indicated the transfer of implant had been completed.
Patiently waiting Sam looked around, others being treated, medical staff talking amongst themselves while holding records or information. The place was smaller than what she was used to but all that was gone now, and with it, other things too. She knew it was probably for the best, to move on, put the past in the past and let it rest there.
"Anything else I need to know about you?" She was fortunate that Sam couldn't see the look on her face when she took down the too small jacket. Those were like a force of nature. Doctor Sothay noted it, and smirked thinking it would do the Biologist good to have a distraction from her work. She was definitely interested in the Marine.
"Not really, just your typical marine." Sam didn't really see herself as any different to any other marine, aside from gender which she worked really hard not to have it be an issue. "Once I'm settled, that is prone to change though."
"Could you elaborate?" Bianca turned halfway, allowing her physique to show a bit with the pull of her labcoat.
"Sometimes its good to get away from the testosterone filled zone of marines. I find it much easier to relax when in my quarters, so once I've unpacked and decorated, I'll feel more at home to relax easier." Sam did notice the physique, glad that she was not the only one to be slim and in shape though there were times that Sam wished her workout routine was not so demanding.
Bianca chuckled and nodded as if she knew precisely what Sam was talking about. She'd started her life as a marine, and did sometimes miss the lifestyle.
"When you get settled in, set yourself a bath and put these in." she handed her a crystal tube of what looked like salt. "My own personal relaxation mix"
"Put me in a bath and I may not want to get out until I'm a shriveled prune." Sam spoke taking the tube with its contents.
Her dark eyes flickered with mischief, and she barely bit back the naughty response she was going to give her. It was clear in her facial expression that she was thinking something inappropriate to speak in front of her colleagues. "So much the better then. Any allergies, adverse reactions?"
"None that I am aware of." Sam replied. She tried to think if there was anything that would upset her in anyway but she couldn't think of anything off the top of her head.
"Well then you should enjoy that." Nodding to the vial she smiled a little "And, I have another formulation if relaxation isn't the primary focus of your mind."
"My mind is often a flurry of thoughts, considerations, planning and action. Maybe an off switch would be nice." Sam answered, sometimes wishing that was just the case, to switch off.
Gods woman, you don't realize what you're saying to me do you Bianca thought as she regarded the lovely woman before her. Down girl she told herself as she nodded "When you get yourself settled in your quarters let me know and I will bring you some."
"Sure." It wouldn't hurt, any method to relax and take it easy even briefly was a welcome change and with this new assignment she knew she would have to take any spare moment she could lay her hands on. "Anything else you need to know?"
"Not at the moment, but I'll need to do another scan to see how you absorb your supplements later in the week. I might need to change the formulation for your body type."
"Body type?" Sam spoke. "Grumpy, stressed marine, overworked, always on the go and not eating properly. There is a type for that?"
"Would it surprise you to know that there is? I tend to supplement Marines in the same way I would athletes. You especially since you've not been eating, you're breaking down your muscles, as your body wants to stay curvy. There's nothing you can do about that bit, its a lovely benefit of your genetics. But in continuing to exercise the way you do without the incoming calories and vitamins, you can actually hurt yourself because your body thinks it's starving. "
"Curvy, well, I don't know about that." Sam looked down at her body. "Sometimes I feel like a circle, or a beached whale depending on what I've eaten, or Icecream." Sam knew she had to moderate her icecream enjoyment, it was a treat not a staple.
"I would say much more eloquent things if I were off duty Major" she murmured "Curvy is an apt descriptor for you, and I would thank you not to insult yourself."
Eloquent, not something that Sam thought could be used. "Well, now I am interested." The smile shone though unable to be hidden. "Can't whisper it?" She added. "Between us girls?"
"There would be nothing there at all, to speak of." she countered, playing with her words and turning them back on the Major. How she loved word games.
Sam was quick to try and hide the smile and the reddening cheeks of a blush that extended down her neck also. It had been a while since she'd be so complimented and it did give her a little boost. There was something refreshing about Bianca's directness, it was straight forward, to the point, honest. "Thank you." Sam spoke, softly and quietly.
Inclining her head in reception of the words was all the reaction she gave on her face. "See you in a few days then Major?"
Sam smiled as she pulled on her jacket again, doing it up and straightening it after she leapt down from the Biobed. "A few days then, thank you Doctor, Lieutenant." A hint of the blush and redness still visable on her features.
