Sickbay visitors

Posted on Sun Nov 13th, 2022 @ 4:24pm by Lieutenant Sky Jansen-Carey & Commander Antonia 'Tony" Stoffels

Mission: Traitor amongst us?
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: A few hours after ‘the in-patient’

After a descent sleep Sky was making herself at home in Sickbay, walking back to her bed with a tray of food and a drink, she settled down to eat. She was politely tucking into her snacks when Tony walked through the door followed closely by Soran, she’d called Tony requesting she bring a few things from home to keep her comfy and entertained for the evening.

“Hi Tony, Hi Ren, I wasn’t expecting you too.” She offered a warm smile to both. “Thanks for doing this for me, I appreciate it. Rutherford wants me to spend the night under observation, so thought I might as well be comfortable.”

"Here are the things you need." Tony said as she put the bag next to the bed. And then made herself comfy in one of the visitor's chairs. "You did not tell me your stress level was this high, Sky."

“Neither did I to be honest” Sky shrugged her shoulders. “I’ve had a headache for a couple of days, but I put that down to me worrying. Just the thought of war...” she sighed.

"I know." Tony said softly. "and the last couple of days have not been easy on you either. But you have to take rest as soon as you feel unwell. You have to promise me that."

Soran sat next to Tony, "the federation has fought wars before, they'll get through this too."

Sky nodded. “That’s just it, it’s not the Federation so much it’s all of us!” She paused to sit down. “What will happen to all of us? I’m afraid of losing what I have, what we all have!” She paused to let herself relax, and calm down. Last thing she needed was for her blood pressure to raise any higher.

"It will be difficult, life will continue. You and friends will do all they can to keep you safe." Soran said honestly.

Sky nodded. “Thank you Ren, I never used to be this much of a worry wart! It’s surprising how much being pregnant changes your outlook, and your priorities.”

"I do suggest we have more regular sessions as well." Tony said. 'You also need to work through what happened aboard the ship." She had a feeling Sky had not really talked about it.

Sky didn’t say anything for a moment before nodding. “I would argue but I guess I have been burying myself in my work lately. They do say therapists make the worst patients.”

"Well you should know, I am your patient." Tony grinned. "And I guess we may need some couples therapy as well." She grinned at Ren, only partly joking.

Sky looked at Soran wondering what he’d make of that comment.

The Soran shrugged, "I don't know about that. Might be a good idea.

Sky smiled, she didn’t want to dwell on that point as she knew it would make Soran uncomfortable. “Thanks for bringing my things, I’m only here overnight Rutherford wants to keep me in for observation."

"Sorry." Tony said. "I did not mean to make you uncomfortable." She squeezed his hand.

"It alright Love, I think I'll leave you ladies to your talk." Soran smiled, "I think there a pint of syntheale and a dart game in Ten-Forward calling my name."

"I'll see you later." Tony said. She was not going to leave before she knew Sky was really ok.

“Thanks for coming Ren” Sky smiled as she waved Soran off, then turned her attention to Tony. “I honestly didn’t realise I was pushing myself so hard Tony, the last thing I’d do is put my daughter at risk.”

"I know but you are a workaholic like me. And sometimes we just don't pick up on the signals that we have to stop." She had had a look at Sky's chart. "Is it just the war? That makes you so stressed?"

“To be honest...” Sky paused. “I’ve been a little on edge ever since what happened with Nick. When he had me in his grip, all I could think was whether I was going to die. It wasn’t so much me I was worried about though, it was my baby and leaving Xavier and Tal.”

Tony had had a feeling that was part of it. "A very normal reaction, was this the first time you were this severely attacked by a patient?" The first time it happened to her she had nearly pissed her pants.

Sky nodded. “To that degree, yes.” She paused. “I’ve been verbally threatened before, but not physically attacked. It’s been... unsettling to say the least.”

"It literally scared the piss out of me the first time it happened to me." Tony said softly. Not something she told many people. "When I first started working on the severe trauma ward at the hospital, I... I was not sure I could keep doing it. It was that scary."

Sky nodded as she fiddled with her fingers. “To be honest I wasn’t sure I’d be able to face Nick again, but I did anyway. He did apologise though. It’s just...stuck in my head, you know?”

"What do you need right now to make it feel less scary?"

Sky paused to think. “I honestly don’t know, I guess the break here in Sickbay gets me away from my duties for a little while. Rutherford wants me on light duties, Something I haven’t been doing as much as I should. I did request an extra counsellor from Starfleet to help lighten the load, I don’t suppose you could chase that up for me?”

"I have news for you. It is not common knowledge yet but we have two experienced counsellors joining us soon. One who will stay on board I hope and the other just visiting. So you can take it easier for a while."

“Really?” Sky smiled a relieved smile. “That’ll be a great help! If I don’t get relaxed Rutherford will have me camped out here permanently!”

You are not curious about who is coming? It may be a blessing or a curse." She was not entirely sure herself.

Sky gave Tony a concerned look. “Should I be worried? Admittedly I don’t want to lose my position as Chief Counsellor. So who is coming?”

"You don't have to worry about that." Tony grinned. "My friend Kay is coming over and I am sure she does not want to be chief counsellor, in fact she would rather not be a counsellor at all but a combat marine. And her mum is coming as well. They are afraid they might be targets for an assassination attempt."

“Ahh I see” Sky nodded. “They’ll be safe here with us.” She reached for the bag Tony brought her. “Thanks for bringing my things, at least I can make myself at home.”

"I hope you will like Kay. She and I grew up as sisters really. And it will be weird to have aunt Denise on board. She is going to take care of Nicky. And I have been tinking of asking her to work with Xavier. What do you think?"

“That could be a good idea actually” Sky nodded. “Neither you, or I are really the best choices to work with Xavier. You’re his XO, I’m his fiancée, Denise would probably be the best option.”

"Yes. It is awkward for me. Like with Ren. I did both their initial trauma treatment but we have such different relationships now. And Denise was my supervisor at the time so it is not new to her."

“Okay then, once she’s aboard we can get together and organise everything.” Sky smiled as she made her bed comfortable.

"Good idea. She is always willing to offer advice as well. And you may want to talk to her about what happened with Nick."

Sky nodded in agreement. “Can’t have a Chief Counsellor who isn’t up to par! I’ll talk to her I promise.”

"Good. They should be here soon. I hope Kay will go easy on Ren." She rolled her eyes.

“If she doesn’t she’ll find herself on the wrong end of me!” Sky grinned. “He’s currently under my supervision where counselling is concerned. We’ll see how things pan out.”

"They have a brother/sister relationship as well. And growing up with all those boys Kay is a bit of a tomboy."

Sky grinned. “She’ll get on well with the crew onboard then, definitely amongst the guys.”

"I hope so. It would be cool having her close again."

“It’ll do you the world of good as well.” Sky smiled. “I’ve got offers of help from not just you, but Rutherford and Pix too!”

"And they will. Pix is doing wonders for my brother so I hear. And Tas and Mel as well."

“Pix is a marvel, she’s totally amazing!” Sky grinned. “Such power and presence for someone of her stature.”

"Yes. You should use her in the counselling department." Tony joked.

“Actually that may not be a bad idea” Sky nodded. “She would make a good emotional support assistant.”

"She would. But she is so small we would not want to overload her either."

“Very true” Sky nodded. “I would never do anything to hurt Pix. She’s such a wonderful person, a small stature with massive personality.”

"Absolutely. Now can I leave you to get some rest? I should be getting some myself."

Sky nodded. “You can, I’m not going anywhere. I plan to relax, and enjoy some time off.”

"I plan to sleep. I had one good night but I need a few more to be back in excellent shape. And I will be back to check on you tomorrow." She said mockstern.

“Yes ma’am!” Sky gave a mock salute. “I’ll still be here, that’s a promise!”
