Status Updates

Posted on Tue Jul 11th, 2023 @ 11:46am by Lieutenant Isla Hamilton & Lieutenant Geiger Zaal

Mission: Starship Side Quest
Location: Main Engineering

The new Chief engineer, Lieutenant Isla Hamilton had only been aboard one day. However today she officially went on duty. She had requested to meet with some of the engineers in order to get to know them. She wanted to know their strengths and weaknesses, so she stood at the end of the 'Pool Table' after calling a departmental meeting.

Geiger had been filling in a lot more than he had intended when it came to dealing with Main Engineering since coming aboard the Resolution. While he had planned on going through spending most of his time locked away in one of the engineering labs, things were what they were. Their engineering staff had gone through some recent changes as well, and that didn't help things either. Being attacked, it was always something that everyone pitched in to repair the vessel. "Sir," he greeted as he had come to the departmental meeting.

Isla shuddered. "Well, first of all. Let's drop the 'sir'. I would prefer 'Chief' or 'Isla'" she told them all. "We're bound to be in cramped positions together, so we should get to know each other."

"Chief then. I'll do my best to try to drop the 'sir' as you have requested. It's been so ingrained with my wife being in security. So many 'sirs' get tossed around," the Trill offered to lighten the mood. "You'll normally find me locked away in an engineering lab or two. I am good with maintenance and repairs in a pinch though. While I can give you the breakdown of the repairs that we needed, completed, and still have yet to finish, I'm have not had the luxury to learn how the Resolution ticks and her quirks."

Isla nodded in response. "So, you're assigned to the engineering labs? What are you guys working on in there?" she asked curiously.

"Our lab is currently working on extending the life of pulse phaser rifle power cells. Right now, they just don't last long enough. Especially with the advent of war on the horizon, it'll be prudent to get them lasting longer," Geiger stated. "One of the other labs is working on extending the encryption on our subspace channels."

"Oh. And how is it going?" Isla asked.

"I'm not sure the status of their lab. As for our research, we've had some ups and downs, and are working through them. Once we can get the extra capacity stable, it should be enough that we can amp up production," Geiger commented.

"How are you packing more power into the cells?" Isla asked curiously. "Surely if you overpower them it could cause them to burn out the rifle fuses."

Geiger nodded. "Yes, if we aren't careful, it's going to burn out the rifle cells. That's been the hardest part with optimization of the cells, and the catalyst used. We found a different composition along with the distribution that should allow us to have the extra capacity. So far, we've managed to replicate the results three times out of five. We're still working out the kinks."

Isla nodded. "Well, I won't keep you any longer. Carry on and keep me informed".

"Will do. I should hopefully have a report here to you within the next couple of days to a week at most. It'll at least be a status report if not a deliverable. Let me know if you need anything in the meantime."

"Very well." Isla responded. "As for the rest of you, bring me updates on all of your current projects and assignments. I might have to do some reshuffling around."

Geiger and the other engineers around nodded at the request for updates on the projects. He had a couple others that were in work, knowing he had his work cut out for him to get this done on his normal 'now' timeframe.
