Mission:
Traitor amongst us?
Location: sickbay
Wain was flat on his back in sickbay. By now sickbays bored him to tears and truth be told he was still scared. Never in his life had he trusted doctors. And he had always though he would die in the saddle during his long career. Wain had started out as a navigator and by accident then became a Klingon specialist which helped him move swiftly through the ranks to a position were he spend most days behind a desk. The shuttle accident years ago had not helped, it had taken away his vigorous health and left him a person he did not want to be. Now he was stuck in the middle of nowhere, close to death, while all he wanted was be in the thick of the action.
Walking into Sickbay Sky made her way across to Wain’s bed. Pausing at the end she offered a polite smile. “Excuse me Admiral, I thought I’d come by and see how you were.” She moved a little closer. “I’m Sky Jansen, Chief Counsellor.”
"Now my day is complete." He sighed. "a bloody shrink."
Sky gave Wain a somewhat melancholy look. “Not the response I was hoping for I’ll admit.” She offered a smile. “I can go if you want to be alone?”
"No I need the company." He gestured to a chair. "Besides I know how it works." a wry smile. "I bet you know who I have been married to for over 30 years. Right now I can't afford to have another 'did not cooperate' in my record."
“Well this isn’t exactly an official visit” Sky offered a warmer smile as she sat down and made herself comfortable. “I kind of have an ulterior motive for coming to see you.”
"Oh?" he was genuinely taken aback by this new tactic.
Sky paused before giving Wain a hopeful look. “I’m due to get married to Xavier and Talsi... Captain, and Lieutenant Carey, and we need someone to officiate at the wedding.” She paused again. “I was, kind of hoping, that you’d agree to marrying us?”
"Ehrm?" Wain wasn't often left speechless. "You are marrying two people at once? I got that right? But you don't know me at all? And I am at death's door."
Sky offered a warmer smile. “It’s kind of complicated, but yes I’m marrying an already married couple. I’m also expecting our first baby. As for not knowing you, that’s why I’m here, I want to get to know you better and give you chance to get to know me. As for death... he will have to line up and take his turn!” She grinned.
"You are a chirpy one." He could not help but smile. "If the doctor will let me I would be happy to marry you, Lieutenant. So you had better tell me more about the three of you."
Sky couldn’t help but grin. “That’s easy! Our relationship originally started when I volunteered to be a surrogate for Xavier and Tal. Unfortunately my body couldn’t cope with carrying a child of Talsi’s species. Fortunately the child I’m carrying now is Xavier’s child. I know there are those who don’t understand a three way relationship, but it’s become second nature to me now.”
"And how much time did all of that take?" Wain was watching her with amusement.
“A matter of weeks actually!” Sky was practically buzzing as she talked about Xavier and Talsi. “I love them both with all my heart, and I wouldn’t change a thing.”
"Weeks?" He asked amused. "And you are a counsellor? Isn't all of that awfully fast." His voice was gentle.
“Well, more like the equivalent of a few months in weeks.” Sky shrugged her shoulders. “Maybe it is, but we all know how we feel for each other, and with the possibility of war looming ... I’d rather marry Xavier and Tal knowing we’d at least gotten that far before war broke out. The future isn’t certain, and I want this piece of certainty.”
He found her a little naïve, maybe refreshingly so and not as hardened as most officers he knew. "I do hope you are sticking to the rules and talking to someone yourself." He tried for a fatherly smile.
Sky nodded. “I have already spoken to someone, and I will maintain that when the need arises. I can’t be a Chief Counsellor, and refuse to see a Counsellor myself. That would be pretty hypocritical. I may not be the perfect patient but I’m willing to follow medical advice.”
"You would not be the first to break or bend that rule. But I am glad that you are not that stupid." He said with a grin. "You have too much going on."
“I do indeed” Sky nodded. “A Counsellor’s life is never dull that’s for sure!”
"Will you be keeping an eye on my boys as well?" Wain asked. "I am worried about Tasin and Melor may bottle up his feelings. There are days he thinks like a Klingon."
Sky nodded again. “I’ve spoken with both Tasin and Melor, I will continue to keep seeing them alongside the rest of the Counselling staff. I’m afraid I can’t say much, patient confidentiality I’m afraid.”
"I understand." Wain said. "Just keep an eye on them. That is all I ask."
Sky nodded. “Of course I will, I won’t let them down I promise you that.”
"Thank you. Oh and I suppose we will need to meet again to go through the ceremony, that is if you can get the doctor's permission."
Sky smiled. “I’ll look forward to it, I don’t think Rutherford will mind as long as I don’t keep you too long.”
"I hope so as it would be lovely to be able to help you out."
“Fingers crosses then” Sky smiled warmly. “Get some rest Sir, I’ll talk to you again.”
"I think I actually will, doc." He smiled at her.
Nodding Sky headed on her way, she just had to hope Rutherford would allow his patient to take part in her wedding now.
