A little lost

Mission:
Traitor amongst us?
Location: Various
Kiera walked along the deck wishing she’d taken the time to study the layout of the Resolution before she’d set out to look for her office. She’d somehow managed to get herself totally lost, which made her feel so stupid. She paused to ask the computer for a deck plan before she spotted someone coming her way.
Kay was in civvies, she was just coming back from the holodeck where she had a good session to blow off some steam. Het blond/red hair was in a ponytail which made her look much younger then she was. "Hiya," She said friendly. "Can I help you, ma'am?"
Kiera offered a warm smile. “I hope so, I’m looking for the Diplomatic offices? I’ve gotten myself somewhat turned around.”
"Oh you are nearly there, ma'am. Let me walk you over." She offered. "You the new diplomatic officer?"
Kiera nodded. “I’m Kiera Tal-Carver, Chief Diplomatic Officer, plus I’m also assigned as Archaeologist and Anthropologist. One way or another I’ll be kept busy.”
"That's nice. I like archaeology but I would never have the patience for it myself. I am more of an action type." Kay smiled. "I'm a marine but currently assigned to counselling."
“Ahh so someone else whose path goes two ways” Kiera smiled warmly. “I’ve had to wait 3 years just to get assigned to the same ship as my husband. Starfleet are anything but quick in that respect.”
"I was together with my boyfriend, we met on a ship but now I have been reassigned here." Her face fell a little. "I miss him. He is my first boyfriend ever."
“I completely understand” Kiera offered a warmer smile. “I first met Robert at the Academy, we dated but then ended up being assigned elsewhere. It took years before we met again at Utopia Planitia, fell head over heels again and got married! Then we were separated yet again. At least we’re together now.”
"I am glad for you." Kay grinned. "What does he do?"
“Thank you” Kiera smiled as they kept walking. “Robert works in engineering, he enjoys the technical side of things.”
"Great. We can aways use more engineers. So tell me more about yourself, your hobbies. Sorry if I am forward, ma'am.I like meeting new people."
“That’s not a problem” Kiera grinned. “Tell you what show me to my office and we’ll sit down and get to know each other. It’s always nice to make new friends when you’re new onboard.”
"I haven't been onboard long myself." Kay admitted as they finally came to Kiera's office. "Here we are, ma'am."
“Wonderful, Thank you.” Kiera smiled warmly. “Come on in and make yourself at home.” Walking inside Kiera paused to look around. “Well it’s typically sterile, but I can sort that. Now you asked about my hobbies, I like to swim, I’ll willingły play a game of cards, trips to the holodeck, and plenty more besides those!”
"I like some of those as well, ma'am." Kay smiled. "And if you need help decorating, I can help with that as well."
“In that case it sounds like I met the right person!” Kiera grinned. “Please call me Kiera, there’s no need for titles.” She motioned to the replicator “Would you like anything?”
"Tea please, Kiera. And that would be nice, almost all officers on the ship outrank me so that is no fun. I am a first lieutenant."
“I can imagine it must feel pretty intimidating.” Kiera smiled as she walked over to the replicator. It didn’t take long before she returned with a pot of tea for one and a mug, plus a hot chocolate for herself.
Kay snorted. "Uhm nope, that is not exactly the problem. I have more problems being respectful." She saw Kiera did not understand. "My dad's an admiral. I grew up around brass."
“Ohh I see” Kiera smiled and nodded. “I know the feeling! I was raised part of a Fleet family too. Expectations are high when you come from a line of respected Starfleet Officers.”
"Hell yes. That is why I chose the marines. And my friend Tony chose navy as my dad is an admiral and hers a general." She grinned. "To be fair my dad does not push, he is pretty laid back."
“Well that’s something” Kiera smiled as she picked up her mug of hot chocolate and cautiously sipped it. “Hmmm there’s something to be said for chocolate, whether it’s liquid or not.”
"Chocolate is the best." Kay grinned. "But I am trying to cut back on sugar. It makes me even more hyperactive than I normally am."
Kiera grinned. “Oh I’m the complete opposite! I’m a sugar junkie! Not that you get too much sugar out of the replicators in one go these days. Even the machines are on a health kick.”
"Yeah. I have a medical degree as well so I do understand it. Sugar is addictive and not too good for you. But sometimes I do crave it as well."
Kiera looked at Kay curiously. “So, what do you like to do in your spare time?”
"I am exploring new hobbies." Kay said honestly. "My hobbies were brawling and drinking and I have been told off for it. Besides my boyfriend doesn't like it so I have been trying to behave."
“Of course” Kiera grinned. “I like a little bit of everything, I’m always open to new hobbies. I spend a fair amount of time in the holodeck, going to new countries and places I haven’t visited before.”
"Oh that sounds nice. Maybe we could do that together." Kay said with a grin.
“Sure!” Kiera nodded enthusiastically. “Gives me a friend to be with when Robert is busy doing other things. Speaking of which, he’s already been for his psych evaluation, I need to sort out mine.”
"There is our chief counsellor but Sky is pregnant and not working full time, and there is me."
“Brilliant, would you mind if I came to see you for my evaluation?” Kiera smiled. “We do already know each other which makes it easier.”
"Not at all." Kay said. "On a base I always kept a strict boundary between friends and work. On a ship it is just not possible and the lines are a bit more blurred. We would be recluses otherwise."
“That’s very true” Kiera nodded. “I’ll admit when I was on my own I tended to keep more to myself, at the end of shift I just used to go back to my quarters, unless there was any ship wide functions that I was required to attend.”
"That can get so lonely. This is only my second ship duty as counsellor. I could not do it without friends I think."
“Well consider yourself a friend of mine, it’ll be nice to have someone to call my friend here.” Kiera smiled. “Ohh and I’d like to arrange when is good for you to do my psych evaluation.”
"I would say when you are settled in and have time to come by. I am not working full hours yet. There are some family issues I am taking care off as well and that takes time."
“Okay great” Kiera nodded. “I’ll call you to arrange a suitable time. I have to get my Diplomatic clearances sorted, amongst things.”
"Sure, you know where to find me." Kay said. "I will leave you to decorate now."
Kiera smiled and nodded. “I don’t know about actually decorating, but I do have one or two boxes to unpack. Thank you for all your help.”
"You are welcome."
