Planetside-which way to go
Posted on Sun Nov 10th, 2024 @ 5:19pm by Lieutenant Commander Hunter Carey & Lieutenant Commander Aalis Rinne
Mission:
Those who are left behind
Location: Chin'Toka system
Timeline: During the Battle of Chin'Toka
Hunter set the shuttle down on the planet, their arrival had went off without an issue, except for the enemy fleet that was there a little sooner than intelligence had predicted, causing the battle to be started sooner. Last he had seen, the battle was ongoing. But running on minimal power, so they could get through the enemy lines undetected meant losing those scanners. His team took out their tricorders, gave a nod, then headed out the door.
Getting up from his seat, he walked over, grabbed a crate, and opened it. Taking a two blades, strapping them on his back, several hand phasers, and a rifle. "Ready Commander?"
"Going to have to be," she said, standing up and grabbing what she needed to make this work. She hadn't been on the front lines in a long time, not enough like this, but she trained for it, especially when the intelligence reports said as such.
With everything they needed out, he set the computers to fry, anything that was on them would be gone, and information would be nonexistant. Escape was also out of the question. He always believed, if you want to take something, you get rid of all the escape routes.
She looked over her shoulder one last time as the shuttle was frying itself, and would slowly be consumed by the wilderness that they had landed in. They had a couple miles of walking ahead of them to get to the communications array. It was going to be quiet, and the darkness of night was starting to give way to daylight.
"There are several outposts on the way to the main facility we have to take out. Including surface to air missiles." Hunter replied as he looked around getting his bearings.
"We better hurry then since they are here earlier than they were supposed to be," she commented, picking up her pace quite a bit.
"We are unexpected we should pick our pace up. But the Cardassian and the Jem'Hadar on the planet, shouldn't be expecting a team on the planet."
She looked at him, as she instinctively picked up the pace as he had mentioned picking up their pace. "Let's keep that element of surprise," she agreed with him. "It wouldn't be bad bragging rights that we pulled this off ourselves without having a massive team. Why didn't you have a full team to do this anyways?" she asked.
"Its not the size that counts..." He replied. "Bigger teams have a much higher chance of making mistakes. small team of four to six... it may take a little longer... but chances of success I find are bigger... especially with the right people."
Not knowing if she should dare to ask, but she decided to see how far that she would get away with it. "And what's a team of two?"
"We have had people here for a while... also someone on the inside... but they have since went radio silent. Part of the reason, why we have decided to take this planet."
"Ahh," she exclaimed climbing up the steep hill. "We're the rescue slash completion slash recovery crew then?" she asked.
"If we can rescue them... but thats not priority. Priority is to take this planet..."
She let a half hearted laugh out. "Well, why don't we show them that we can do it all, get the planet, get them out, and recover whoever we can find among the wreckage. That's how I became Rinne afterall..." It wasn't something that she would have ever thought that she would have made outloud. Her goal was to go home. She knew she was going to go home. Might as well do it in style?
"This planet only has one compound. We get that... we get the planet... shouldn't be too bad."
"I've studied what you showed me. I think your plan will work for the approach. Let's just hope they play along. Otherwise, we'll need to get flexible with that takeover," she replied.
"Where's the fun in that?" He replied sarcastically. "One thing I learnt never expect things to go your way."
"They rarely do..." she replied.
"Its a six hour trek. If we do it the safe way. Two hours if we go through hostiles. I will let you choose."
She mulled over the two options she was provided. "I don't think we have six hours to waste. However, the hostiles going through, how much? Because if it is too much does your two hours account for those encounters? Otherwise, what about a third option? Something in between the two courses?"
"Either or." Hunter replied as he leaned back. "We do have the element of surprise on our side... but that could easily change."
"Easily," she replied.
