Klingons!!!

Posted on Thu May 13th, 2021 @ 5:03pm by Captain Xavier Carey

Mission: The Mentarin Effect
Location: Main Engineering
Timeline: Current

Cameron sat back, again stuck on the ship, when he should be down there. This time, though, different reason. This time he was the captain, in rank, not just acting. He had to get used to that. He also had to get to the fact that he had gotten the position due to death, or a hit on the Captain. Something he didn't wish, but he would make the best out of it.

Now he thought about several things, the briefing, the chief engineers suggestion had been a good one, and going over what the issues were on the surface it could very well be one of the main solutions to start solving the problem. The more long term solution would be to help the people to change their ways. In a way he was absolutely right. They were responsible, however so were the klingons. But even they did not tell them how to get the ore, just made arrangements to pick up the ore... usually starfleet would sure that the methods were humane. This time however, things seemed to have slipped up.

He stood, it was time to make a visit to main engineering to talk to the engineer. Although starfleet had protocols, he knew the engineer knew it as well, and was giving his opinion. He was kind of snappy about it.

It didn't take him long to get down to main engineering via turbolift. As he reached the core, he just watched it work, he might not have been an engineer, he still marvelled over the core... likening it to an old lava lamp that he had when he was a kid.

"A prettier sight I do not think you will find anywhere. Pure power controlled it is beautiful but if it slips the leash the most destructive force there can be.". Said James as he walked out of his office and into the core chamber

"It does have a nice aura to it. Something similar to the aurora borealis. But apparently thats just me."

" No sir it is not I just personally have never seen the northern lights as I think they are called. As a result I have no point of reference. However a lot of people say the same thing there is almost something soothing about the lights.". Said James calmly

" Now though sir I am sure you did not come down here just for the view so what can I do for you?". Asked James

"Straight to work I can appreciate that." Cameron replied, "can we talk in your office."

"Certainly sir if you will follow me." Said James as he led the way to his office. Please have a seat sir can I get you anything to drink. One perk as a chief he had his own replicatior in his office and after all there was no call for bad manners the man across from him was his captain true but he was also his guest at the moment.

"Nothing as of yet Lt. The idea of atmospheric scrubbers, that is probably the route we are going to go... however seeing this is not a federation world the
prime directive directs us to wait until assistance has been requested before even suggesting."

"I can understand that sir. Honestly that is the one part that to me honestly makes any sense at all.". Said james calmly. "I assume then from the tone of your statement that you as the captain can not do this so your asking a department head to sound them out and see if they would be willing to ask for our help. Or something along those lines maybe I am completely wrong about what I said". He added

"What I want you to do is replicate what you need to build those scrubbers, work with sciences to determine the minimum amount of scrubbers the planet would need in order to start the cleanup of the pollution." Cameron replied, "Either way, we will need to help them, there are ways around the prime directives I am looking into."

"I can do that sir. Infact looking through what we have in the hold we can build at least 15 with the parts on hand. I will of course discuss with science how many more will be needed but it is a start.". Said James calmly

Nodding, "Just enough to get started Lt. There is something I can offer the Mentarins, to get more assistance. And a more permanent solution."

"Captain... we have Klingon bird of Prey decloaking off or starboard bow. They are hailing."

Cameron paused, "Duty calls Lt." He turned and walked out of the Engineering at a jog, with tensions on the rise with the klingons he didn't want to make the wait."
