Investigation is over: Lack of evidence. Part one

Xavier sat back in his chair, the past few weeks had been difficult, to say the least, with the fleet recovery, the news of the dead numbers, now, his career seemingly in challenge, as well as that of his XO. Taking out a bottle from under his desk, he paused and pulled out a large glass, and poured himself some scotch whiskey.

"Computer, bring up all evidence on the Stoffels family." He replied turning over to the computer. There was something he was missing, something that would fix all of this. This evidence something had to make sense.

"Captain," Came Lt elements voice over the coms. "Admiral Ross is here to see you."

Raising an eyebrow, "Send him in."

Seconds later, Ross stood at the door and walked in, instead of walking to the chair, he gestured to a second glass, and the whiskey. Which Xavier quickly obliged.

"So... You have met Commander Price, a hard tough as nails intel guy." Ross started off as he walked to the window.

"From his file, of what i can actually find, quite a read. But he seems tired."

"We all get to that point eventually. I plan on leaving after the war is ended." Ross admitted "Tell anyone and I will deny it." He took a drink paused and turned back around. "This investigation, I am ending it effective immediately. Lack of evidence will be the official reason. It won't put you in the clear completely. But it will put you back, where both you and the commander back where you belong. In charge of the Resolution."

"Lack of evidence isn't taking the microscope off of us Admiral." Xavier replied topping up both glasses.

Ross nodded, "It doesn't but it doesn't stop you from finding the truth on who did. I know the Stoffels, our families intertwined several generations. But something in the intelligence is pointing fingers towards them, however not giving enough evidence will keep you out there fighting the good fight."

"I will make sure my people are on it." Xavier replied as he took a drink.

"Keep it on the down low. There are moles, there are dangerous people behind whats really going on. If they find out you are still digging, they will come after you and the Stoffel family." Ross replied as he sat finally. "Care to call the Commander up, and tell her the good news."

"Not sure its under the correct reason, but sure." Xavier replied as he pressed the com.
