Establishing a Baseline

Mission:
The Mentarin Effect
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: In transit, two days out from objective.
IF Amelix was ever going to get anything done in science, she needed to meet with the CMO. After all, medical had to certify her fitness. That being said, since she was the only Tygarian in Starfleet and the only female Tygarian away from her homeworld, she wondered how any medical officer could figure out what was normal for her. Nonetheless, she bounded into the sickbay like a bolt of brown lightning.
She announced, "I'm here!" and continued speaking at warp speed, "I really need to get my physical in so I can get to work. Who here can certify me?" the Tygarian asked, nervously bobbing up and down on her feet.
The glowing streak came out of the Doctor's office 110 centimeter height; the slight flutter of her dress hem fluttering as she flew at a good tilt, angling to meet the new person's eyelevel before breaking speed and stopping in front of the new person. Hovering for a courtesy.
"Pix..." Milton was next out the door with Padd in hand. "I have warned you about shooting out of the Office like that." He smiled as he scolded. "Sorry about that, Pix is a Social entity." He came forward and extended a handshake. "I am Doc Milton, the one who can certify you as requested."
"Pix?" Amelix asked curiously. Absently, she shook hands with the doctor and then started off towards Pix. "What are you, Pix? You seem like a marvelous creature!" Realizing that she completely blew off the doctor, Amelix continued, "Doctor Milton, that would be great! I love social entities!"
Pix did a flurry and then flew over to stand on top of the Display of Biobed One and sat on the corner in a lady-like fashion.
"Pix is..." Milton chuckled. "not yet defined. She is not one to allow prodding so we just accept she is... Pix."
"Have you asked Pix how Pix defines itself? How do we know that Pix is a she? Perhaps Pix is a he or a they?" At this moment, Amelix realized that she was talking about Pix without talking to Pix. "I'm so sorry, Pix! Why don't you tell me about yourself?! I want to know all about you! My name is Amelix Milumad and I'm the Chief Science Officer! I'm also the only Tygarian in Starfleet! So, like you, I'm unique! We should hang out more together!" The Tygarian happily bounced up onto the biobed and said, "Feel free to check me out, Doctor. I'm sure that my previous records are on file, though I'm not sure how much they will help you with any diagnosis, other than to see if my baseline still matches."
Pix tilted her head and looked at her dress and gave a wink as she sat in an old style pin up model, smiling at Milumad in a coy like fashion.
"You should see her in front of a holo-recorder." Milton said as he activated the Biobed and pull his probe out. "WHen she was first Discovered as a STow-Away the Science team were very...." His glance at the tricorder as the probe began taking eradings. "Experimental and she did not like them trying to aggressively get scans." He made eye contact with eth Science chief. "Usually Science Officers put her off, you have made a favorable impression it seems."
"That would be very unsettling for Pix, I'm certain! While I certainly would like to know everything about Pix, I'm not going to scan a sentient being without their permission! That would be a violation of everything we stand for!"
She then turned to Pix and asked, "Do you talk? I should love to hear your voice! I would love to spend time with you! What do you enjoy? I have so many questions, I hardly know where to start! Would you like to come and visit my quarters? Or lab? Do you like science? Is your science the same as ours? Oh, gosh! Listen to me! Now, where was I?"
Amelix then looked at the doctor and asked, "Where was I? I do have a tendency to get distracted, I'm told! I don't really believe it! I just have a lot of thoughts and I have to get them all out, you know? So, what was it that I came here for?! Oh, yes! My physicals! But Pix, you're so much more interesting!"
Pix was shaking her head and nodding and all sorts of acknowledgement during the lady's statements. Tilting her head as this woman looked to the Doctor and shook her head for a second. She began laughing and looked to be delighting in this exchange. putting her arms on her thighs and resting her head to continue her observations, legs playfully kicking in time with some tune in her head.
"Laugh it up Fairy Girl." Milton teased Pix before looking to his patient. "Pix does not have vocal speech as far as we can tell, she understands perfectly and is not appearing to be telepathic exchange, more empathic type from observations." He explained and continued his scans. "Pix could keep you busy but I have not seen her enter a Science lab of any sort in a very long time." Glancing to her eyes to focus. "Pix is free to do as she pleases, she is not always in Medical Bay; she does venture out of her own accord." He winked. "So if you see a glow in your air venting duct it could be Pix wondering about."
"Well, Pix is always welcome wherever I am at! She's super adorable! There has to be a way to communicate with her more smoothly, though," Amelix mused. "Pix, do you think that the two of us could try and work out a method of communication so that we could talk? I would love to work on that with you! I think it would be a lot of fun! What do you think?! Most of the equipment that I have to probably try and figure it out is in the science lab but I can take some out if it would make you more comfortable! Or, we could do it on the holodeck! Yes! We could experiment with communication on the holodeck! In fact, I could probably replicate equipment there! What do you think?" Amelix asked, the doctor and her physical, long being forgotten.
Pix Glanced at the woman and just laughed, the slight echo of small bell like sounds emanating from her. She seemed delighted with this one sided conversation. Slipping off the display she descended closer to hover just above and behind the Doctor's left shoulder, her arms crossed she tilt her head slightly and then her right hand moved to stroke her chin as she look Milumad directly in the eyes. There was an slight smirk to Pix as she hover and the glowing dust fell from the motion of her wings and faded quickly.
"Pix is a Free Spirt you might say; but I always know what she means and it is on a more ... subliminal level, we never really need words, she is quite expressive if riled up, believe me." Milton commented while evaluating the health of the very 'vibrant' woman on the Biobed. "Are there any issues you want to bring up that I should know about, physically?" Pix was doing the usual job she has with children, keeping them occupied.
"Oh, no! As far as I know, I'm quite a healthy Tygarian!" Amelix responded. "I haven't done anything lately to expose myself to any adverse chemicals! Lord knows that I don't want to turn myself blue again! Now that was quite the event! Who knew that mixing those reagents would cause such an unsual reaction?!" Amelix responded delightedly.
"You are seeming to be on the more healthy side of things." Milton said. "As for Pix is concerned you have to convince her."
"Thank you, Doctor. I hope that stay healthy because I'm not sure anyone knows how to heal me! It is a huge problem with being the only Tygarian in Starfleet! But it is a problem that I'm more than proud to have! Is it the same way for you, Pix?"
"You might be the only one Now. Milton replied as he was checking the finer points on his tricorder; making sure he had an effective base reading to be the comparative. "You are not the only one out there, be surprised what we Doctors can learn from one another." He finalized the scan and looked up, putting the probe away.
Pix hovered forward between them to be closer to the woman and then extended her right hand with the palm up.
"I'm the only FEMALE one that you will ever meet, though, well, unless you go to Tygar but that's not likely, now is it? I mean, who really wants to go there? See a bunch of ships circling a planet of a red giant..... Really quite dull when you think about it."
Seeing Pix extend her hand, Amelix reached out her hand and put her hand palm down on Pix's palm up hand.
Pix smiled then gesture for Amelix to put her hands flat with palms up.
"I think Pix wants a landing pad." Milton used one hand to show and Pix flew over and landed to stand on his open palm. "SOmetimes her language thing is a bit vague.
Pix shrugged and smiled as she nod in agreement.
"OH! I had no idea! So much to learn! I can't wait! I look forward to learning with you, Pix!" Amelix opened her palm and held it to the side for Pix to land upon if she chose.
Touching down Pix weigh about what one would expect for a small bird, a little of her dust falling and fading as her wings stopped fluttering.
"Seems you have a new friend Pix." Milton was completing his scans. "Be nice and all to her."
"I think we're going to have a marvelous time together!" Amelix replied. "There's so much that we can learn about one another. Maybe we should try the holodeck first? I don't want Pix to get upset with bad memories in the science lab! And then, we can work on linguistics. Gosh, there has to be a way to make her audible to us! We'll find it, won't we, Pix?!"
The little Pix was nodding and grinning as she could not help but get the almost child like enthusiasm of the woman. Pix began to glow a little brighter with each word Milumad said added to the pixie's brightness in a small way. Her glow a growing sphere and she did a little happy type dance in place.
"Pix..." Milton said with a careful chuckle. "Remember what we agreed about me not having to dim the lights in Sick Bay?"
Pix looked to the Doctor and put a hand over her mouth as to say 'Oh...' and nodded before winking to the lady and taking off so fly over to Milton's left shoulder to sit quite really .
"She really gets excited sometimes with people and has made it necessary to dim the lights as she was a small sun almost." Pix actually blushed slightly. "I think she is more empathic type who understands us more through our intent than actual words sometimes."
"FASCINATING!" Amelix enthused. "Almost like a Betazoid that can't speak and can't turn off! What an interesting theory! I can't wait to test that with her! We're going to have so much fun together, Pix! I can hardly wait!"
Pix nodded in agreement.
"She seems to have her own UT in her and I dare not explore how." He smiled. "I like to think it is the Universal belief in Pixe magic."
"Why not?!" Amelix replied confused and shocked. "Half the fun of meeting new cultures is learning all about them and how they do things! I want to know every last thing about Pix! I hope she wants to learn all about me, too! Learning should never be one way!"
"One ting Pix can be known for." Milton chuckled. "She is curious as can be."
Pix did not seem to know what to think of that statement as she gave the Doctor a sideways look.
"So Pix is a scientist too! Lovely! You may need to set alarms for us so that we remember to eat! I mean, this is going to be a fascinating time for both of us!"
"Perhaps will have to instill a curfew for her in the future to assure she gets rest?" Milton teased. "For both of you perhaps?"
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Amelix wailed. "You wouldn't, would you?! I mean, you can't! I'm not endangering the health of the ship or crew! Pix wouldn't either! Would you, Pix?!"
Pix was adamantly shaking her head.
"It was supposed to be a joke." He chuckled and shook his head. "SO long as You and Pix do not over-do things I will leave you to it, but the moment Pix shows signs of being overstressed or her radiance fades in any way I will pull the Doctor's prerogative for your combined health," he warned. "You are an adult Ms. Milumad..." He glanced to Pix. "And She is... well I think she is old enough to know herself?" Pix batted his hair, maybe even playfully. "SO please just take care of each other for 'My' sake?"
"OF COURSE WE WILL!" Amelix exclaimed. "Come on Pix! Let's get going! We're going to get a holodeck together and have a lot of fun!"
Pix drifted across to Milumad's shoulder and waved to the Doctor.
"Don't have too much fun." He laughed as he returned her wave.
