Let's hope this works pt 1

Mission:
The Mentarin Effect
Location: transporter room
Timeline: Current
{ON}
Tal walked into the transport room, the equipment that she had ordered had arrived before her as well as a handful of other security officers mostly crewmen, right out of the academy. This shouldn't do much other than give them experience. "Remember your training. All alert, but do not get too trigger happy."
"Aye sir." Came their reply.
Sky was next to arrive at the transporter room, she was equipped with her phaser but she hoped she would never have the occasion to use it. She smiled warmly as she greeted Talsi and her team. “Looks like we beat the others to it.”
Rick Jones and Diane Doctrine strode in apparently at the end of a conversation. "All I'm saying is..." when they noticed they weren't alone they stopped talking. "Hello people," Diane greeted her shipmates.
Rick looked around and waved. Then he looked at Diane, "All yer sayin' is?"
Diane's eyes narrowed, "I'll tell ya later." She winked.
A brown blur rushed in. At her side was a tricorder and on her back was a pack overfull. Bits of some sort of metal could be seen through the openings of the overstuffed pack. "HI!!!!" she told everyone. "Oh, I can't wait to get down to the planet! Where's my assistant? Lieutenant Jackson? Shouldn't she be here? I thought I told her to come. Didn't I tell her to come?" Amelix looked at the people on the transporter padd a bit helplessly. "Maybe I should ring her on the comm, huh?"
"Relax Lt. We are actually early." Tal replied looking down on the short officer. "Take a chill pill..." She looked to anyone. "Is that the right context... take a chill pill... Xavier always says I don't use them at the right time. Did I use it at the correct time this time?"
Marisa and Vanessa walked in together, comparing notes about archaeological expeditions. Both wore cross-packs. They stopped as the door closed behind them.
"Hello, everyone," Marisa said, nodding to those who had arrived before them.
Vanessa went over to Amelix. "All set?"
Milton strode on with a Field Medical kit slung over his shoulder; his standard med kit on his right hip and tricorder on the left; he came into the Transporter Room and immediately looked to the ventilation system for a cursory check.
"Hello everyone." He smiled a bit and seemed a little occupied. "Are we ready a little jaunt off the ship?"
"Yes," Diane replied firmly.
Sky smiled warmly as she looked at Milton. “Ready as ever!”
Karatek arrived with Ensign Sharnal Iruni. The scrubbers were ready to be deployed and Karatek had made sure everyone knew what to do and the scrubbers would be where they needed them. He was still checking with his team when he moved in. "Petty Officer Raj, have we got the last report from the operation department?" he asked. They had she answered. The report was coming in on his padd. "They have confirmed our numbers. We are all set."
If Amelix heard Tal, she gave no sign of it. The moment that her assistant walked in, she asked, "Lieutenant Jackson, are you certain we can't tweak the scrubbers more? I was thinking that we could increase their efficiency by increasing the amperage on the photon coils! We could relay the instructions through the subspace transponders that connect all of the scrubbers and give them instructions. What do you think?" The Tygarian started bobbing up and down on her toes. "And did you remember to bring the thoron subspace transponders?"
"Perhaps later," Vanessa replied. "We don't have time if we're going to get them installed before we leave. You can look at modifications after. I'm sure the team that will be assigned here will appreciate your research." Amelix was never satisfied with her work. She continued to look for improvements. Vanessa was learning how to help her superior keep on schedule, but she wasn't always successful.
Sky smiled as she walked across to Karatek, “It’s nice to see you again Lieutenant. Is there anything I can do to assist you?”
Karatek nodded at Sky. "Actually, I haven't had the chance to present myself to most of you. I'm Lieutenant Karatek, the new Assistant Chief Engineer." Karatek was waiting for anyone to jump in.
James walked into the now rather crowded transporter chamber carrying his personal engineering kit as well as a phaser though he hoped to heck that he would never need it.
Rotush walked in, Xavier beside him. Behind them were the Klingons that Captain Drex sent over. "Lots of people for such a small room." He replied as he looked over to the Commander. As he counted more than a dozen people. With the happening at the beginning of the start, if there was any more signs of orions or their accomplices.
"Not taking any chances are we Captain." Rotush replied as he walked looked at the room.
Xavier looked at him. "They will be split once they get down and know where to go Minister. Engineering will take a look at the mining equipment, see if there is anything we can do to make it easier for you. Medical will be see in about the illness that is on your world. Scientists will be helping both. Perhaps something they can find to help clear the air faster or better quality than they currently have."
Rotush just paused as he made his way through the group.
"Commander Sandoval, choose the people to beam down first, Minister will be accompanying those."
Marisa looked around. "Security--including Lieutenant Carey, Minister Rotush, you, Commander Doctrine, and Doctor Rutherford. I'll go down with the second team."
Completely distracted by the new Assistant Chief Engineer, Amelix looked at Karatek and said, "I'm new too! I'm Amelix Milumad! As most of the people here already know, I'm the only Tygarian in Starfleet! Do you know much about Tygarians? I would be happy to teach you about us!" She then looked over at Vanessa and without stopping said, "But it could make things easier for them. I know that the simulations were successful with these scrubbers but imagine how much more we could do.... I mean, we could tweak on the run!" Without missing a beat, she switched back to Karatek, as if she didn't interrupt herself and said, "I'm the only female one that you will ever meet outside home! It is quite the story!"
"I will be remaining on ship, otherwise there will be no senior officers left onboard."
Marisa nodded. "All right." She nodded to the others to proceed.
Karatek was rather unsettled by that outburst of emotions. Lieutenant Amelix seemed to be the antithesis of who he was. "I have no knowledge of your specie. It must be a challenge to be the first. It must allo be rewarding. As for your suggestion, the limitation is not one related to the power output of the scrubber. It’s related to their processing capacity. Those we chose are the best compromise between what we want them to do and what they require to work. Having bigger ones would have new downsides that we decided weren’t the best for the situation."
"Keep in touch Commander." Xavier replied as he turned and walked out the door.
Tal moved onto the padd. "Alright people, you heard the Commander, all those first beam down, onto the padd. Secure the area, and wait for further instructions."
Diane gave an affirmative nod and stepped onto the transporter platform.
