Counselor Meet Tygarian

Posted on Tue Jun 15th, 2021 @ 7:56pm by Lieutenant Sky Jansen-Carey

Mission: The Mentarin Effect
Location: Counselor's Office

There were always so many things to do when boarding a new starship. Check in with the Captain, then medical to establish fitness, and then there was the same with counseling. Amelix wondered if there might not be a way to streamline the process. If she had any inclination for that, she might suggest doing it but engineers were the boring ones that liked to streamline everything. Scientists, on the other hand, liked things messy! They liked to experiment! They liked to find new things!

Just thinking about experimenting made Amelix even more excited to get started. So, before she got distracted, she popped into counseling and announced her presence at the speed of light, which was rather slow for Amelix. "Hi! I'm Amelix Milumad, the first Tygarian in Starfleet! I'm here to see a counselor. I have to get my psych eval!"

“Then you’ve come to the right place” Sky smiled as she stepped out of her office. “I’m free now if you’d like to come through.”

"Oh, good! Hi! I'm Amelix Milumad.... Oh, wait! I've already told you that, haven't I? Some people say that I'm a bit distractable, but that's really not true. I just notice all things at once!" She then looked to the side and said, "Like what's that pretty picture over there?!" She beamed at Sky and asked, "What do you know about Tygarians? I mean, we're more of a wandering species than anything else and I'm sure other than the other Starfleet notes, there's probably precious little on what makes us tick, let alone a female Tygarian!"

Sky grinned. “It’s nice to meet you Amelix, please feel free to call me Sky.” She motioned to the seats, “Please make yourself at home. To answer your question I know absolutely nothing about your race, I’d love to learn though.”

"Nothing? Absolutely nothing?!" Amelix replied practically hopping into one of the seats. "How can that be? I mean, where would you like me to start? I mean, I could start by telling you that like most species we have two main sexes, male and female. Our basic origins come from a species that is somewhat like Terran lizards and reptile but also is like chameleons. That's why we look like we do...to blend into our environment. OF course, I think we're somewhat sparkly, too!" Amelix pointed at her head and in certain light, the rays would bounce off her head and be redirected in a myriad of ways. "And we function on base 13. Part of that is probably because 13 is our holy number. We have 13 clans, though one is lost. That's really a long story and there's lots of arguments about that. My mom often says that I have too much of my dad in me. He was from the Nehetan clan. They're not really thought well of in general society but mom married him anyways, and had me! Wasn't that wonderful?!"

Sky smiled at Amelix’s cheery outlook on everything. “Indeed it is, true love knows no bounds. So you can blend in with practically any environment?” Sky looked at Amelia curiously.

"Oh, love is a strange thing! It brought my mother and father together. Gee, they always thought that I would be marrying Rukee, but that has not happened yet." She laughed heartily. "Then again, what was that you asked?" She paused for a second, "Oh yes, you asked if I can blend in with practically any environment. No, sadly, I cannot. I'm not a chameleon. Those are those lizard like creatures on Earth, right? No, I would tend to blend in with the environment and habitat of my planet, though much of that has changed since we were primitive. But that was ages ago. I mean, I doubt anyone would recognize us from our predecessors. Sort of like Neadrathals, is that what they were? Nobody would really mistake them for a human now, would they?"

“That’s true” Sky smiled warmly. “So what made you want to be a Starfleet Officer?”

"Oh, well, originally I never had any desire to become one. Females do not leave Tygar, you know! But, well, one day I had a meteorite fall within 100 feet of me. It cooled surprisingly quickly. I picked it up. I showed it to everyone. When the Ruknee saw this, I was told, 'You are the bridge. You must go from here. You must enroll in StarFleet.' Well, nobody argues with the Ruknee! So, naturally, I left home and enrolled in Starfleet!"

"The decision was that easy for you?" Sky looked surprised. "So how are you finding being part of Starfleet?"

"When the Ruknee say to do something, you only question how quickly!" Amelix replied as if it was obvious. "And Starfleet is wonderful! I've never seen so many species and had contact with so many, either. I'm doing things that most females on my world would only dream of. Well, they might not dream of all the science that I'm doing but this is rather wonderous! And I live each day just amazed at how lucky I am to be here and with all the new discoveries that I might find! Honestly, I'm like a kid in a candy store!"

Sky grinned. “That I can see! It’s so nice to see someone so enthusiastic about being part of Starfleet.” She put down the PADD she was holding. “I see absolutely no reason not to clear you for duty here and now.”

"Thank you!" Amelix replied happily. "I do have a lot of things to do back in science. You're always welcome to come and visit! See me in my natural habitat, as it might be."

Sky smiled. “I might just do that sometime, thank you.”

"Oh, you're most welcome! Any time anyone wants to observe or learn science, I certainly encourage it. Where would we be without questions? I mena, if we had no questions, we would always accept things as they are, right? And if we did that, how could we evolve? Most likely we would devolve. Hm! Maybe that's an experiment I should try, seeing how long it would take to devolve something. Wouldn't that be an interesting experiment?! Ooh! I like it! Now, where was I? Oh, um, yeah! Feel free to visit! I'm happy to have the company and share all of my experiments!"

“I love a good experiment!” Sky grinned. “Not that I’m that clued up when it comes to all things science.” She grinned playfully.

"Oh, that's alright! I'm happy to teach too! I love teaching and talking about science! Just name the time and I'll be there! Well, of course, as long as I'm not on duty," Amelix added apologetically.

“How’s about you let me know when’s good?” Sky grinned. “That way I’m not interfering with your duties.”

"Almost any time is good! I try to run a very welcoming department! If the time is bad, I'll let you know! Just give me a ring before you come! Right? Right! Now, if there's anything else that I can do for you...." Amelix rose to her feet and started bobbing up and down on her tip toes.

“No, I’m perfectly happy to let you get on with your duties” Sky smiled warmly. “Any problems, or if you just need to talk you know where to find me.”

"I do!" Amelix exclaimed just as she rushed out of the counselor's chambers. While others might rush to feel free from the counselor, Amelix was just excited to head to science and do her work.
