Your the new assistant

Mission:
The Mentarin Effect
Location: Security Offices
Timeline: Before away team
Tal sat in her office going over certain things, going over whats been happening, and not feeling quite right about certain things. Looking over she had seen Lt Rinne, she was a rank higher, had an impressive resume, not putting herself down. But to her point of view, she was a child in her peoples view. While she was in her prime.
"Lt Rinne. Can you come here for a minute."
Aalis had been a squad leader since coming aboard the Resolution. She liked being in the thick of things and not in administrative roles. Squad leader was something that she felt had been the best of advancing her career and staying where she was. It was one of those things that she never really gave thought to. With everything that had been going on in the galaxy, she just felt an unsettling force out there that she couldn't put her finger on. After hearing her name called, she turned from her station and walked over to the open door to the Assistant Chief's office. "Yes, sir; how can I help you?" she asked as she entered the threshold of the office.
"Drop the sir lt. You are a higher rank than I am. Which is what I want to talk to you about." Tal replied. "You have more qualifications than I do for my position. I have to clear it with Commander Johnson but he should have no issues."
"I've worked with chiefs that were ensigns in the passed, so rank has nothing to really do with it?" she posed more as a question than a statement, even though it could have been the other way around as well. "Everyone has their own career paths. Chief isn't something that I want, not yet at least. I'm just getting back to being in the field after being out of it for awhile. I don't count babysitting diplomats really exciting material."
"I am still young Lt. I am 34 human years... however, my species could live up to 1500 of your years. I have a long time to grow. I plan on switching over to operations as the ship is in need of an operations officer, and I would not feel right leaving without a capable officer in my space."
A smirk crossed Aalis' face as she spoke about age. "Well, you do have a year on me. I understand. We always fill in where we need to in a pinch. That's pretty neat that you can live up to fifteen hundred years. Impressive, actually. I can assist, for now, until a more suitable assistant chief comes along. As much as I can command a situation, I'm actually enjoying being squad leader. Fair?" she asked.
"Being assistant does not mean you have to give that up." Tal replied, "We have to approve it with commander Johnson, and ill talk with my husband."
"Understandable and doable. Anything else you needed from me? Anything in particular I should know?" She asked the other woman. It definitely wasn't a part of her current plan; it could be a part of the plan.
"Just that you should get ready, away team in five."
Aalis nodded and stepped into attention. "Copy that. I'll meet the away team in the transporter room." She knew which one they were in as the call had come only moments before over the internal comms. "I'll catch you later. Send me any files I need to review when I get back from the planet."
Tal nodded. "Already have. Lt." She responded, once she was out she left a message with the Chief explaining the situation.
