After talking with Diane, he walked into his office, and sat in front of his computer, "Computer request communications with the IKS Gree'Tok, secured channel."
Captain Drex's face appeared on the screen. "Ahh, Captain Carey. How are things in the Federation?"
"Heading to the demilitarized zone Captain, word has it the war is heading out that way. What's your thoughts on the matter, from the 'enemy' view." Xavier replied as he leaned back.
Drex leaned into the screen as if to talk conspiratorially, "The demilitarized zone is, perhaps, not as demilitarized as we think. I know the High Council is keeping a close eye and preparing for the worst as they typically do."
"The Maquis and the Cardassian people are stepping up their attacks, however something isn't setting right. The Cardassians seem to be pulling back, as if waiting. So we are heading into the area to try and evacuate as many as possible."
"It is probably wise to get the non-combatants out of the way," Drex replied guardedly. "It is possible that the Cardassians are regrouping and modifying their strategy. I don't think they anticipated the resistance they're getting from the Maquis."
"Martok... a changeling eh. Seems like you have been infiltrated." Xavier replied. "I have also been curious. I have been told that any blood ritual that is involved with a Klingon, automatically brings one into the Klingons house."
Drex's eyes narrowed, "Captain, we know this. Actions are being taken to mitigate any damage this false Martok can be cause. The only problem we have at the moment is convincing some of the lower houses this is so."
"Martok was coercing Gowron... do you think we can count on an end to this fight. We both lost good ships and good people."
"It's going to end one way or another," Drex replied grimly, "We would like it to end with the least amount of damage."
"You avoided my question Drex," Xavier chuckled. "Listen, I contacted the parents of Diane's partner, they are on the Resolution as we speak. Diane has been reunited with her son. Whether she will keep him here remains to be seen."
"Whether she tells you or not, Diane will be grateful... And I am grateful that you could help her," Drex replied, "I'm sure she'll let you know either way... for the other issue, I can only guess at this point because it has been some time since I've been to Q'onos. At this point support for Martok and Gowron is about even. Those of us that know Martok is a changling are trying to muster more support for Gowron. It's been a slow process."
"What's making it slow. It was a broad daylight attack."
Drex let out a low, wry chuckle, "It's just the Klingon way. Decisions are rarely made quickly. I imagine things take time in your own government as well."
"They do indeed." Xavier replied as he looked. "What's your current assignment?"
"We are currently taking our turn at border patrol," Drex answered plainly disgusted by the assignment.
"Oh, the warrior heart be still."
Drex rolled his eyes, "I know... but we all have to take our turn doing the drudgery. Fortunately, we only have eight more days."
"Any idea what next?"
Drex was quiet a moment as he pondered the possibilities. Working in the intelligence department made it difficult to say as the Klingons used intelligence a little differently than their Federation counterparts. "There are three possibilities," he said at last, "Unfortunately, I can't discuss them at the moment." Off screen, he was tapping at the console. "However, someone we both know well might be able to fill you in," he added guardedly.
"Understood captain. May your patrol bring you honor... until our path crosses again."
"Thank you captain... and Q'pla!"
