Mission:
The Lost Brother
Location: Ready room
Timeline: Current
Xavier walked to the security office, the commander had walked out of a meeting, which was voluntary, but his presence was requested. His response when walking out, was one that bothered him. Is that how he truly felt. He didn't know. But it was time... to let him in on something.
Ringing the chine he waited for an answer.
Wagnor heard the chime and figured he knew who it was, he sighed. He really didn't want to do this. but…
"Come" he tried to keep tension out of his voice.
Xavier walked in, looked around. This was the first time he walked into the office since Commander Johnson had left. "A word Commander."
He motioned to the chair across from him, "It's your ship, Sir."
"Its our ship." He replied as he walked over to the replicator and got himself a coffee. "I am not accustomed to people accusing my people of racism or discrimination. Sky is half Romulan just that in itself should be enough to be kicked out of starfleet to some people. I married a 9 ft alien. My son is a Human, Na'Vi hybrid. What makes you think discrimination."
I didn't say racism, I said prejudice, don't put words in my mouth." Soran spat. "Cognitive dissonance in most species knows no bounds. Just because you chose to love and accept someone who is different doesn't mean you're not prejudiced against another group. So you can shove that argument right your ass! The Federation doesn't like anyone who's genetically altered."
"Tal is. Do you know how many people died in the Eugenics wars, how many people died. we also know there are races out there that use it, and use for the greater good. The yllerians, they have never used it for power or for control but to change themselves to enable to live in environments otherwise not suited." Sitting down. "There are prejudice within the federation, there is the old guard that want to protect against what may happen." He paused. I know what you have been through on your other ships, I know the difficulties you have had on postings because of it." He took a drink of coffee. "Sure your altered. Others fear it. I respect it. But its not you being engineered why I specifically requested you to be my new chief security onboard the ship."
"Why you request me?"Soran inquired.
"You have served with one of my relatives, you impressed him, but he also noted how your, alterations may bring you trouble in starfleet." He took a drink of his coffee. "I looked your file up, noticed questionable reprimands... notes on your files." He paused. "Its not about protecting you from bullies, your abilities are strong, you know your shit. Sometimes thinking outside of starfleets regulations is sometimes the way to go."
"I can't discuss the details but yes I worked with Hunter Carey." Soran shrugged. "Carey in is a common human name so I didn't make the connection."
Looking at the Commander. "You aren't afraid to do what you feel is necessary, which is why I want you on my crew."
Soran nodded, "I will follow my own convictions. I won't be anyone's walking weapon ever again."
He looked away, it was hard to talk about these things. Few can understand, but many passed judgment. He wasn't sure what was going on in the medbay, but he had no intention of going back.
"Tell the Doc I'd like to be seen by a different member of his staff." He said. "If his associate who doesn't know damn thing about me is so uncomfortable, I need to be treated by someone else."
"I know you may not believe it. But I think this is just a misunderstanding, until we figure out what went on with Pix and the doctor, I wouldn't hold onto anything. Its been very stressful with Lt Jenson, and Commander Stoffels... things can cause energies to get out of whack."
"The way I see it I am owed an explanation and possibly an apology, I will not commit myself to his care until that happens." Soran couldn't keep the pain from his voice. "I am being judged for things beyond my control and I will not tolerate that."
"I understand, we will figure this out Commander. I can't have my senior officers at odds with each other."
"Thank you, Sir." Soran said. "I've been dealing with prejudice my whole adult life I'm just tired."
"I understand that Commander." He replied, although he wasn't entirely convinced it was. "I refuse to have it on my ship."
"I believe you," Wagnor said.
"I would just like you to know, that technically, I am supplying weapons to the Maquis. The away team, the supplies they are taking are ordanances, to protect them from any ground attack should the Cardassians decide to attack them"
"I appreciate your honesty Sir," Wagnor said. " I will never support political decisions that displace and hurt incident people."
He looked away from Xavier with a thousand yard stare. "I should be honest with you as well, my nightmares aren't the only issue. My old conditioning is returning; I'm starting to feel like a walking weapon again; which is good for the upcoming mission. It's not so good for my mental health or the people around me. I apologize for my outburst and disrespect."
"If there is anything I can do to help you find a way to fix that, I know there are treatments for brainwash victims."
"The methods used to remove the conditioning are too invasive, besides the conditioning itself isn't the issue. It has saved my life and allowed me to save others, " he explained. "I think teaching Lieutenant Jansen the techniques that helped me gain control would help us both."
"Then continue, should it become ineffective let me know."
"Thank you Sir," He sighed. "My mind as been stuck in the past lately. It's hard to fight the battles in front of you when your still in the past."
Xavier paused, "Thinking of the past is not necessarily a bad thing, its how you use it to fight for the future. Make the future better. As I am sure I have already stated. Use that fire, to mould and create something better. From what I have heard from Hunter, you have the capability. So I want to see it."
"I will my best, Sir." Soran said, he was sincerely grateful the Captain was so understanding.
