Mission:
The Lost Brother
Location: Bridge/Sickbay
IC
Ensign Tinara adjusted in her seat, pulling the console a bit closer. The passive sensory sweep of the open space had struck a nugget of interest. The Orion focused the Communications array into the direction of the faintest signal, repetitive in nature. The universal Translator was not needed as the signal was a Distress signal; unmistakable except for the weak signal degradation over space and probability of low power output.
"Captain... " The Orion female was careful while looking over her shoulder so not to move her uniform and show off the legs under the skirt. She kept the bulk of the chair as a type of shield. "It is a weak signal , I am working to enhance Sir." Her soft blue eyes turned back to the console.
"Understood," they were nearing their destination, just two more hours at the current speed. with this, there was some concern, could it be related to their current mission.
Using the trace she hand managed ; reverse relaying the signal to the source the Resolutions computer and vast Comm -Array was able to boost the signal by 50%. That might seem an achievement yet, the weak signal to start with made it just enough stronger to verify it as a Distress Beacon and give an approximation for Intercept.
"It is just an automatic signal, no voice , it is sending a locator , I am making a directional attempt to establish a link." Tinara informed.
"Xavier nodded, "Keep me updated, helm, maintain course until we know what exactly it is."
Now Tinara's fingers were dancing over the controls; the touch of each input sound added to an almost melody as she sent a trace signal to the source; meanwhile analyzing the type of signal band-width to ascertain the type of Distress Beacon. The type would tell if a Pod Shuttle or small star ship? By her initial analysis the craft was very small Type six shuttle or less; exact identification would take some time and the ship's sensor would verify when in range.
Have a return to her 'Ping' did allow Tinara to establish a link. The access to the communication system of ; what she now identified as a 2 passenger shuttle, had some facts; there is a single 'logged' occupant/ pilot. The 'slave link' she brought into her control was a small Remote Control request. The power is too low for any commands to really allow affect of the shuttle, but it did allow her to get a weak interior scan.
"It is a dual passenger Shuttle." Tiana relayed the facts. "Telemetry shows a single occupant and in a non-flight functional state. The interior remote scan show the life sign is humanoid an very weak." Tiana glanced back again. "It is not stasis; just very low on life support according to the telemetry."
"If we divert course how far does it take us from our destination?"
Ensign Element looked over to the Captain. "It will take an hour approximately Captain, the shuttle is directly in our path of our destination."
"Convenient." Xavier stated as he leaned back. "Ensign Tiana, any more information you can give me on those life signs?"
"They are getting weaker from Telemetry and life support is running low on power. " She reported. "The cabin is still pressurized but the temperature is also dropping into critical levels Sir.
"Ensign what speed will it take to get us there asap."
"From the readings ensign Tiana has imputed into the computer, warp four will get us there in six minutes."
Nodding, "Do it." He leaned back. "Lt Rutherford prep sickbay for a patient, we have intercepted distress call from a shuttle with a lone passenger, life signs are failing." He turned "Commander Stoffels to the bridge please."
"Be right there sir." Tony acknowledged.
"Any idea who the occupant is?" Xavier asked the ensign.
"Power levels will not allow much more probing and a draw on the power grid, best we leave as much Life Support power as possible." Tiana remarked.
Tony rushed onto the bridge. "Commander Stoffels reporting for duty. What's going on sir?" She asked the captain.
"Shuttle in distress, its in our direct path, life signs are fading, we have contacted Doc RJ to prep for a patient."
"Do we know who is inside?" Tony's expression alternated between hope and fear.
"The telemetry is due to nearly exhausted power cells, the scan band width I had took most of the processing and routing to the life support power did not allow more in depth processing for that information in the memory... yet Sir." Tiana said. "I a having the computer fill in more information but at this power level it is very slow with little extra computing power if we wish to priortize keeping the occupant alive Captain."
"Can't we beam whoever is in there out directly to our sickbay?" Tony asked a little impatient.
"Arriving at the coordinates of the shuttle Captain, coming to an all stop, bringing the shuttle onscreen now." Element replied as she brought the ship to a stop.
"EMERGENCY Transport to Sick Bay . " Toana said from OPS station "Doctor Milton, your Patient is inbound."
=^= Acknowledged. =^= Milton replied.
Turning to Tal who was managing tactical at the time, "You have the bridge. Tony you're with me." He stood, and headed to the lift.
Tony was right behind him, suddenly more nervous than she had ever been.
Xavier placed a hand of comfort on her shoulder, a friend would console her, but her Commanding officer would push through. Removing his hand. "Sick bay"
Tony gave a small nod that she understood.
It didn't take long before they walked into sickbay. "What do we have Doc?"
Ensign Donelly walked up to the pair, "The doctor is trying to stabilize the patient, whatever he went through the guys lucky to be alive. He will be with you oll nce he can." Although she was fairly new to the Resolution, she thought very highly of the Doctor and his friend.
"Can I go in? I am medically trained." Tony explained. "I need to see if ... if it is someone I know."
"If it is someone you know Commander, maybe its not best you go see." Xavier replied as he turned. "What can you tell us about the patient."
"What I can tell you about what i know is that he is a human klingon... late twenties early thirties. The doctor can tell you more once hes able to."
"Melor..." Tony whispered and felt het knees give way. "Will... will he live?"
Xavier braced her from falling, then brought her to a bio bed.
"I am unable to answer that." Donelly replied apologetically. "He does have several of people assisting him. I know hes in the best hands he could be in right now. Just give him a little time and I am sure he will be out and update you."
"Thank you." Tony said shakily. "If this is who I think it is I know him well." She said to the captain. "I think this is admiral London's adoptive son."
"Well this just got a whole lot of crazy." he muttered to himself. He knew of the Admirals health, "Not something we will tell the Admiral just yet. If it is him."
"I will be back in a minute I will go and check with the doctor." Donnelly replied
"Uncle Wain would need to know but maybe better to tell aunt Denise first."
Walking back, "Im sorry Commander, Captain... it seems to be more... difficult to get him stabilized. He will contact you when he is able to. He is lucky to get here alive, the current problem is to keep him alive which is what the doctor is currently trying to do."
"Oh god." Tony said still overcome with emotion. "He can't die. You have to keep him alive."
Xavier placed an arm around her shoulder. "Lets leave the doctor work miracles as he is here for." He replied. "We have stuff to do."
Milton had his hands full all right, the initial problem was snipped off by a simple scan. The patient's body temperature had dropped with the life support loss in power; Milton had to adjust the Operating room to a degree that it did not add more shock to his system. The man had been through the worst of things by the initial scan from the instruments. The blue lips and coolness of his skin also gave hint to their problems. Getting the man stabilized did not come as an easy process.
The obvious was getting the man st a more normal normal state of being. The minor use of Thorzine as a simulant; just .2 cc was enough to gte the heart pumping and with Lethro-hydroxine to aid the biochemistry to steady the heart and still get the higher Beats per minute to both move oxygen and the blood going to the various body parts. The sterilization field had to have some added negative charge to act like an anti-magnetic field to the body. Most pain receptors are stimulated by the iron content; small particles, collecting on the nerve endings creating a conduit for the pain impulse to the brain.
Before surgery on the extensive damage the body had to be stabled to a point that would give the best chance of survival for the patient. One of Milton's nurses knew the Captain was here and Pix was kicking on a portal and even through he glass he knew she was up in arms and he had the Feeling in his gut that Her BFF was close by.
"10 More CC of the Thermal Sodium Oxyde derivative to and keep the steady transfusion with the clotting agent going for a moment." Milton instructed te nurse and then exit to give a run-down to the Captain and Tony; he just knew she had involvement in all this; in his head he could almost hear the warning that she would be anticipating news.
Pix had flown around and landed on Tony's shoulder and embraced her neck ; burying her face to not show the tears and fears she felt. SHe gave her most comforting thoughts through the touch to give her BFF the confidence in Milton that Pix knew was in the Doctor's ability to heal some of the worst cases that come into medical.
"Alright Captain..." Milton came to face the Captain and XO. "Klingon signature all over this patient." He began. "Cardassians are best at Mind Games and breaking a Spirit; Romulans are said to the best interrogators in acquiring information. Klingon's just 'Beat the Hell out of you and hope to get answers." He explained. "The man in there is going to survive..." He instinctively glanced to Tony as Pix was on her shoulder.
He shrugged.
"Facts are facts in that case." He took a breath and prepped the short form of the situation. "The man has multiple contusing's, lacerations, 2nd and some 3rd degree burns on his body. A major concussion with two fractures to the skull from multiple blunt force trauma. The humoring in his skill is going to be the first thing ; I have a cordical stimulator on him right now to get teh swelling down. I need to get his body Temp. back closer to normal and then I can work the broken Ribs; punctured and partly deflated lung. And get a handle on some internal organs that have brusing that is very hard to achieve..." He nod. "Like I sad they are effective in brutality those Klingons. and once I take him into surgury and see the true extent of the damage and what I can do I will let you know2.
"Thank you Doctor." He glanced to Tony. "This mission just became more complicated... it wouldn't surprise me if we need your skills once again doctor."
Tony allowed herself to be comforted by Pix. "Did he say anything? About what happened? Can I see him to confirm that it is indeed who I think it is?"
Milton moved to activate the observation camera to focus in on the face; heavily bruised and barely able to be identifiable after numerous blows to the face . The cooler temperatures had brought down the swelling and the time adrift also made it to where some who knows the gentleman could make an identification.
"I cannot let you enter but there is the best profile angle I can give you." The doctor adjusted the angle to have the face in view.
Tony moaned then nodded her head. "Yes this is Melor Catesby. Admiral London's stepson. His grandfather was a Klingon grand admiral." Tears streamed over her face seeling Melor this way. And she could not help thinking about her own brother.
Xavier motioned for the doctor to shut the link off. Tapping his combadge. Lt Carey, please have the shuttle tractored in to the ahuttlebay, and block any access to the bay, until we can get Forensics in to comh the shuttle."
"Understood captain, do we continue our course to the plane?"
"Negative, we will remain here until we come up with a plan. Scan area for signs of Klingon ships. Informsearch teams to meet in the conference room in two hours. I'll take care of the science department., And ops "
Milton cut the feed. "I am presuming you want him kept under wraps; as one ight say, someone beat this bad is obviously important to Klingons?" He noted from a forensic team and no progression. "I can have me and two nurses that I trust to keep it quiet assigned if you would like Captain?"
"Until we know more, and until I contact a your father Commander."
Tony nodded. Dad would need to know this.
"If you will excuse us Doctor. Thank you again. Advise us of any changes."
