A mother’s love

Posted on Sat Oct 15th, 2022 @ 12:46pm by Lieutenant Sky Jansen-Carey & Commander Antonia 'Tony" Stoffels

Mission: The Lost Brother
Location: VIP Quarters
Timeline: After events with Nick

Searching out Tony’s mother Sky made her way to the guest quarters, she needed to speak with her regarding recent events with Nick. As she arrived outside the door she pressed the door chime and waited.

"Come!" Aleck said. She has just finished a work out routine and was panting slightly. "Counsellor." She said recognizing Sky. "How may I help you."

“My apologies for interrupting you Ma’am” Sky offered a smile. “I need to talk to you regarding Nick. He’s currently not in a very good place, he said he wants to die, and I think it’s due to pressure put upon by his grandfather.”

Aleck sighed and motioned for Sky to sit. "I have not been allowed to see him since he is awake because I have been told he does not want to see me or Tony. That is not a good sign. He dotes on his sister. And he has always been able to talk to her. Has he said anything about my father?"

Sky moved to sit down, making herself comfortable. “Just that his grandfather drilled into him that death comes before dishonor, and that was how his uncle Gilbert died." She paused. “Nick attacked me twice in an effort to get security to harm him. He also had a fall in the bathroom, during which he made no attempt to save himself. As much as I hate to say it I’m at a loss as to what is best to do.”

Aleck closed her eyes for a few seconds. "I am so sorry that my son attacked you, Lieutenant. It is very unlike him. And very worrying. I am not a shrink, so I don't know what the right way is. I doubt he will listen to me. Whatever I may say. My brother Gilbert died when Nick was a baby. He doesn't even remember him."

“He’s obviously heard that one from somewhere then” Sky paused. “I don’t want to have to insist on medication for Nick, drugging him isn’t going to get us past the problem, and it’s not going to be a quick process either. I want to arrange a medical discharge from the marines for him, it’s not a career that he’s truly ever wanted.”

"Of course he has heard about his uncle dying." Aleck said. "Gilbert was nothing like Nick. He was a career soldier down to his bones. Cocky and arrogant. Too arrogant, he took too many risks because he wanted to rise through the ranks to beat Richard. That is what got him killed. I don't want a medical discharge for Nick. That is still a stigma in society, it would hamper him finding other work if that is what he really wants. He is so young he could make a career switch. Richard and I never pushed him. Well Richard never pushed, I tried not to." She smiled sadly. "I wanted him to become a marine, when Tony didn't. But I can live with him not being a soldier."

Sky nodded. “Then I’d like to suggest you accompany me to speak with Nick, he may resist seeing you but he needs to hear that from you, not from me.”

"Alright. Although he has heard it many times from me before. He might not believe me now."

Sky nodded. “It’s worth a try, anything to ease the current burden he’s feeling. It’ll help in the long run.”

"Ok. Have you cleared it with his doctor as well? As it could agitate him a great deal."

“I will arrange it with Rutherford” Sky smiled. “I don’t want to be undermining Rutherford’s treatment of his patient.”

"Good." She hesitated. " I will be here." Aleck wanted to ask more but that was not fair on the other woman. "It is good to know that there are people who care about my son."

Sky offered a warm smile. “I try, I just wish I could help more.” She gave Aleck a curious look. “Was there something you wanted to ask? I can feel you holding back.”

"I know therapists and what I wanted to ask was not fair and you would probably not answer me anyway." Aleck said honestly.

“Depends on the question ma’am” Jade smiled warmly. “Please ask.”

"Well Renny is like another son to me. We have known him a long time and kind of taken him into our family. But I know he still has some troubles. If Tony can't treat him... can you handle him?"

Sky offered a warm smile. “I obviously can’t go into details but, Ren and I are working together, both in a professional and counselling manner. To answer your question...Yes, I can handle him.”

"Good. That is what I needed to know." Aleck smiled warmly. "And keep an eye on my girl as well, she tries to be tougher than she really is."

“Now that I know!” Sky nodded and smiled warmly. “Tony is my best friend, she’s become more like a big sister since she arrived here.”

"I am glad to hear that. She always has trouble making friends because of her job. It's good to hear that the two of you get along so well."

“We’ve had our moments!” Sky grinned. “But Tony has proven herself to be a good friend. I’ll watch out for her that’s a promise.”

"Good. And if you are ever on earth be sure to come visit my husband and I at one of our houses. We love to meet our daughter's friends."

“Thank you I’d like that” Sky smiled warmly. “Please try not to worry, I’ll do everything I can for Nick.”

"I know but you won't stop a mother from worrying. I will do anything I can to help."

Sky nodded. “I know, don’t let go of hope one way or another we’ll get Nick the help he needs.”

"Thank you, Sky."

“My pleasure” Sky smiled before heading for the door, she had a lot of thinking to do in order to help Nick.
