Whats in the Atmosphere

Posted on Fri Dec 11th, 2020 @ 12:17pm by Captain Xavier Carey & Lieutenant Commander Rutherford (RJ) Milton & Lieutenant Vanessa Jackson

Mission: The Mentarin Effect
Location: CO's ready room
Timeline: Current

Cameron had been sitting in the ready room, the Captain had been adamant about going down himself, rather than having him lead the team, which was protocol. Now he was determining next course of action for when the Captain did arrive. He had been studying the issues with Mentar IV, the pollution, it was so bad that a shuttle had been required to send the captain down. Something that he didnt like even more. But it was his decision, so he had to respect it.

The pollution is something that was concerning, not only was it an issue for getting to and from the planet, for not only them, but it was an issue for the mentarins as well, especially the health wise. It was something he had not the expertise on, but he knew of two people who would have more knowledge. "Doc RJ and Lt Jackson, can you report to the ready room please."

Milton had been going over the latest of the blood work evidence from ship Physicals; it was part of the scans and needed to be closed out. Hearing the Captain's summonses he had placed his work aside and went to the nearest turbo lift, direct route to teh bridge and to the Ready Room. He did not get opportunity to visit the bridge; had not established a rapport with the Captain as yet for a casual observation of the efficiency of the Bridge Operations from a Medical standpoint.

Arriving at his destination he pressed the chime to be allowed access.

"Enter" Cameron replied, the chair had been facing the window, the view of the planet clearly shown how much the pollution had affected the planet.

Rutherford entered the Ready Room with a casual and curious expression, he look around and stopped near the desk. "You sent for me?"

"Doc," He looked around, "No pixie? Tal has been asking about her, she wants to know if there is relation to her and the interdimensional beings that her species are familiar with."

"Pix is not one for crowds, crossing the Bridge and such is not her style." He grinned. "I don't know about interdemensional as she has a life reading as solid and takes up relative space in our demension frm what I can tell." He glanced at the Air vent and saw it not illuminated. Pix would be more likely to watch from an air vent than ride on my shoulder. SHe is kind of territorial and likes Sick Bay."

"We just need to wait on Lt Jackson, and we will get started." He added as he sat a pad down. "Against my wishes the Captain has sent a shuttle down with himself, Lt Wayne and Commander Johnson to the planet."

"We might ask the Science Officer what her impressions are of Pix; she saw her during Jackson's Physical." Rutherford replied. "SUrprising as Pix generally is not a fan of science."

"Probably not considering she was probably under tests when you first brought her onboard."

Vanessa needed to save the work she was doing and let her assistant knw where she'd be before heading to the Ready Room. She walked in and nodded to the other two. "Sorry I'm a bit late. What's up?"

"Ah Lt. No rush... with the captain heading down to the planet, I figured we would get things underway up here." He paused as he motioned to the window, "Mentar IV... Atmospheric conditions prohibit tranporters, due to the extensive pollution." He paused and turned the chair, "Please have a seat. Let me know what your thoughts are. Its apparently only one of many problems we are here to fix. I have my thoughts. But wondering what you guys think."

"from a medical vantage the place is kind of like living in an old Cigarette." Rutherford chuckled a bit. "The younger generations will be more likely to suffer than the more robust elder generations. some better atmospheric filtering at the source is my medical prescription on first glance."

"From what I gather, there is no atmospheric filtering stations on the planet." Cameron stated. "What about your first glance Lt."

"No. And right now, even if we clean up the atmosphere, their habits will pollute it again within a decade," Vanessa said, looking out the viewport.

"From a medical stand point just cleaning the air manually is a Band-Aid if the root cause does not change?" Rutherford said. "I would like some atmospheric readings for projections before I say a diagnosis."

Cameron paused a moment. "The trouble is, the extent of it is not known, but as you guys are aware both being given a briefing on the going ons on the planet. Although the full extent is not known, we know of an illness going around. We will need to work on finding out chemical compounds inside the the atmosphere. Are you able to calibrate a probe to do so Lt?"

"I can run a series of scans and send a probe into the lower atmosphere," Vanessa said. "That will give us a better idea of what chemicals and particulates are there and at what levels. I suspect there's a high heavy metal content."

Nodding, "Doc, I want you to go over the results of the scans with the lt here, once its all said and done. Perhaps come up with what chemicals can cause in a living body, and what illnesses they may cause, I know every race is different, but we should be able to narrow it down."

"If you don't mind I could make a little friendly visit to the nearest care facility by the Production plant and just talk with the Doctors there about what ails them most; do they get the Common Cold or something just some conversation between doctors?" He suggested. "Be a friendly thing and couriosity and maybe take some rounds with the doc and check out the kids also." He rubbed his chin in thought. "I might have taken Pix to get the kids more open but with the toxins I think she will have to sit this one out?"

"Once the Captain is back and we have the go ahead, you will do just that." Cameron thought for a moment, "Thats it guys, thank you for coming, if you can get that information within the hour, it would be greatly appreciated."
