After events with Nick, Sky had finally gotten chance to sit down and call his grandfather. Before she’d allow Nick to talk to him, she needed to get some straight answers about the plan his grandfather had in mind.

A kindly grey haired face appeared on the screen. "I am glad that that bastard Wagnor has lifted the ban on my house, miss." He said without introduction. "it is very disturbing that he has my granddaughter in thrall to do his bidding and is keeping me from taking care of my beloved grandson. Please tell me, how is Nicholas?"

Sky offered a polite smile. “To be honest Sir, Nick isn’t good. He believes that he’s let you down.”

"Well he has." The old man said honestly. "But nothing that can't be fixed. That boy just needs a different upbringing than the one he had."

“In what respect Sir?” Sky looked at Nick’s grandfather curiously. “He seems to think he doesn’t deserve to live.”

"That of course in nonsense. A Sorrel does not kill himself. He is young and naive. His father bless his heart is a good man and a good officer. But he has not had the sense of duty drilled into him for generations. And that is were he lacked teaching it to his children. See it resulted in Antoina chosing a fleet career and Richard never objected. As he is the patriarch of course my daughter Alexandra could not go against his wishes but this must all be hard for her as well. It is time for me to take over and rescue that boy."

“Rescue him by having him put in a mental institution?” Sky looked at the man gauging his emotions.” He saw what the transfer orders were, now he’s asking to speak to you to see if it’s true. I’m afraid what it’ll do when you confirm that.”

He looked confused. "What do you mean? I would never do that. Who told you that?"

“I caught someone putting your grandson’s thumb print to a PADD which contained orders from you, arranging his move to a mental institution.” Sky looked at the man curiously. “Can you honestly tell me you didn’t arrange it? It was in your name.”

"On my honour, miss. And believe me, I take my honour very seriously. That boy will not believe me but I hope you will. I would not do that to my grandson."

Sky nodded. “I believe you, I can sense you’re telling me the truth.” She frowned as she thought aloud. “The PADD Drew tried to have Nick sign...who authorised it if not you?”

"I have no idea, miss." He said."If you hand him over to me I will get to the bottom of this Wagnor will not believe me."

Sky paused for a moment to think. “I’ll see what I can do Sir, don’t worry about Soran I’ll have a word with him about it. I know how much your grandson loves you, he didn’t believe you’d do this either. It’s very odd.”

"Nick is a good lad." Moxley smiled. " I look forward to being able to have him home with me and be able to help him. Will you help expidate that, miss?"

Sky paused. “I’ll do what I can Sir, but an investigation will need to be made into the document Nick was lured into signing. I can’t promise it’ll be quick. Tony and her mother are here, so Nick is in good hands.”

"As I have explained before, miss. I think that Nick needs a kind but sterner hand right now to save him. And I think I am the one to provide it. Like you said he loves me." Moxley said gently.

“He does” Sky nodded. “From what I’ve been told you were the one who pushed him towards a life in the military is that true?”

"Yes." He said without hesitation. "My family are all in the military, they have been for centuries. It is his duty." The old general said simply.

“Really?” Sky gave the old general a shake of her head. “What happens when you put someone into the military that isn’t ready, and will never be so?” She held up her hand to stop him answering. “I’ll tell you...that person gets killed, and possibly takes others with them. Nick isn’t a soldier! He never will be. If you keep pushing him, he’s going to end up dead! Is that what you want? To put your grandson in his grave?”

"You don't understand." Moxley said calmly. "He just did not have the right upbringing. There is nothing wrong with that boy, he will make a fine marine. I will give him all the time he needs."

“It’s got nothing to do with his upbringing Sir.” Sky paused. “Nick isn’t cut out to be a soldier, he could make you proud in so many other ways. Putting pressure on him now could be extremely detrimental.”

"Miss I think I have a bit more experience training soldiers." He said mildly. "He is my grandson and I will help him succeed. Now can I talk to the boy?"

“I’ll have to clear it first Sir, but hopefully I should be able to get you a call from Nick.” Sky smiled warmly.

"Thank you, miss. I am glad that Nick has such a lovely lady to look out for him." The charm was back full force.

Sky couldn’t help but smile. “At least I know where the family charm comes from. I’ll be in touch as soon as I can.”

"I am in your debt, miss." Moxley said graciously.
