The dreaded psych evaluation

Sky had sat in her office for what seemed like forever waiting for Rinne to arrive, having messaged she’d heard nothing, so it appeared Rinne was aiming to avoid her evaluation. As much as she hated chasing people, the evaluation was a requirement of serving aboard ship. She tapped her comm badge.

=^= Jameson to Wagnor, Commander I require your services in locating Lieutenant Rinne. I need her escorted to my office. =^=

Soran sighed as he answered, "is that really necessary? I thought she took care of that last week."

“I’m afraid not Commander” Sky was as apologetic as she could get. “I’m sorry but you know the rules.”

"Yes, I will take care of this. Wagnor out," Soran smiled.

Aalis happened to walk into his office at that time as the call ended and saw him smiling. "Duty reports," she was tentative, not knowing if this was a good news type of smile or if something else was going on.

"Lieutenant Jensen has just informed me you didn't show up your psych evaluation. This needs to be remedied immediately."

Dread washed over Aalis. "Okay, I knew I was forgetting something. I got caught up with all the things going on, I obviously spaced it. I promise it was not intentional. This isn't common for me to miss appointments. I'll go now, before something else comes up."

"Aalis you are one the most put together officers I know, if it were that simple the counselor wouldn't have contacted me." Soran's voice is calm and there was no judgment in his expression. "Nobody likes going to the shrink, but the evaluation is mandatory. You can't be on active duty without one and I can't keep on top of things without a good second."

"Trust me, I know those that run from the psych evals; I'm not one of them. I know the purpose behind them and have gone through many in the past. They are super important, especially for our department. I'll go call her and see if she can squeeze me in as soon as possible. Thank you for telling me that I'm put together. I do strive hard for that," she stated. "If you like, I can swing back through and let you know the completion of the eval since she contacted you."

"The lieutenant said she's free now and would like to see you," He rose from his desk. "I'm walking that way anyway I have a follow up appointment in Sick Bay."

She smiled. "Well then, let's head to the medical complex and get both of us checked out then." She turned and walked out of his office, as he followed behind her and then fell in step with him as they walked the corridor from the security complex to the turbolift.

Within moments, they arrived at the medical complex. Aalis nodded at her Chief. "Alright, I'll let you to sickbay and I'll report back when I'm done with the psych eval."

Aalis walked down the corridor to the Counselor's office and pressed the chime. After she heard the call to enter, she stepped on through. "My apologies, Counselor. I did not realize that I missed my evaluation last week. I honestly spaced it, and didn't realize it."

Sky offered a warm smile. “What’s important is that you’re here now” She motioned Aalis towards any of the available seats. “Please take a seat, and feel free to call me Sky.”

"Alright, Sky." She took a seat at one of the chairs near where the Counselor was sitting. "What would you like to talk about?" the security officer asked, ready to delve right into it.

Sky smiled and nodded as she too took a seat. “So how are you settling in? Are you happy with everything?”

Nodding, Aalis responded, "we've settled in pretty good and have gotten back to a routine now that we have been on a ship now for some time. It's much difference that splitting our time between Earth and Jupiter, living on Mars."

“I can imagine” Sky smiled and nodded. “Living on a starship is a much more confined environment, with the exception of Shoreleave of course. So is there anything that worries you?”

"As a mother, it always worries me having my son along with us for the journey. However, we know that hiding in Sector 001 isn't for us and we rather be out there doing what we do best, especially since we thought the invulnerable 001 would never be invaded. We were wrong with that assumption; the Borg did make it there. Geiger and I rather not deal with the Borg period. Not that we should have to deal with it. The looming threat of the Dominion is something that does have us concerned. We're keeping an eye on the tensions and will send Lonén to Trill if we need to," Aalis commented. Her being Rinne was all because of the Borg. While she was grateful for that, she would have rather had Rinne another way.

Sky nodded. “I can understand your concerns for the safety of your son. With the possible threat of war looming.” She rested her hand on her stomach. “I’m worried about what the future holds for my baby too. Just consider your options carefully. Not that I’m saying you won’t.”

"Oh, I didn't know you were pregnant. Congratulations are in order then," the security officer beamed a smile to the counselor. "It's a magical time that sucks your life away from you and next thing you realize after your done incubating the child within, and you become cognitive again, they are five running you ragged." It was said a serious joke. "Love my child. Wouldn't mind having another one or two. Just hasn't aligned for us yet." Geiger and herself were playing 'if it happens, it happens' approach towards life.

Sky smiled warmly. “Thank you, I lost my first so this baby is extra special. I’m sure when it happens for you again it’ll be just as magical. The plan for me was to be a surrogate originally, but things changed when we all fell in love. The universe has ways of bringing people together.” She smiled warmly.

Aalis smiled. "The universe has a funny way of doing that, yes. Rinne is because of how things happen. I'm glad that it'll be brought into a lovely family. It'll happen when it happens. I know that I can see the Doctor if things don't happen when we decide we want to bring another one into the universe. For now, I want to see to the other side of this conflict first."

Sky nodded and smiled. “So you’re a joined trill, what’s it like? Was it an easy transition for you?”

"It was a really hard transition to be honest," Aalis commented. "I was injured in the Battle of Wolf 359 and wasn't in the prime condition to accept a symbiont. I was Rinne's only shot though. I required time to heal on Trill, and actually ended up pregnant during training and recovery so I took an extended leave to have Lonén. While we all have training when we are young, most people who join with symbionts are usually young. The previous host they tried to get Rinne to take didn't accept the symbiont and I was the next best thing. While I was younger and not as old as some who do join, it was a difficult adjustment, especially with having four previous hosts."

Sky nodded as she listened. “I can’t even start to imagine how being the fifth host must feel. All those prior memories must be overwhelming.” She offered a warm smile. “How are you doing now?”

"They were in the beginning; now, it's part of every day life and I couldn't imagine it being any other way," Aalis replied to the counselor.

Sky smiled. “Like the background voices I get from my telepathic senses. They’re always there, and I’d be lost without them. Is there anything you’d change if you could?”

"There's always things one would like to change if they had the power to change it. However, we don't have the power to change it, and if I were to change it, then I wouldn't be who I am with the family I do have," Aalis commented. It was something that she had been asked during her rehab after Wolf 359. She had initially rattled off some things until she realized that she was who she was because of her experiences and what she had dealt with over the years.

Sky nodded. “That’s very true, and I like that you’ve clear thinking about that. Others have struggled with that one."

Smiling, Aalis responded, "you can thank the rehab counselors for posing that question back then."

Sky nodded. “Of course, that’s their job. Okay, I think I’ve put you through enough for today. I would like to see you again, just to check on how you’re getting along. I've no qualms about you getting on with your duties.”

"I understand; I'll set something up on your calendar in about a month?" the security officer asked. She figured that would give her enough time to get further along with the crew amidst all the things going on lately.

“Sounds Good to me” Sky nodded and smiled. “Thank you for coming to see me.”
