Mission:
Evacuation
Location: Counselor's Office
Timeline: After Sky’s 24 hrs in Sickbay
ON
Qurick was going to follow the book; he had already been to the Doctor; that little one called Pix gave him some puzzled looks but the examination went well. He had been cleared for duty and now he must see to the 'Stress Level Testing of the duty station. The prospect of seeing the Counselor did not really affect Qurick either way; it is just something he does to be approved for duty.
He had called via PADD to assure his appointment before he made his way to Officer Jansen's Office.
The chime sounded his arrival to the Counselor.
“Come in” Sky smiled as she looked up to see Qurick enter the room. “Lieutenant Qurick, please come in and make yourself comfortable.”
"Thank you Counsel-lor." Qurick said as he took his seat across from her.
A Betazoid, though not at all unusual, it is a good choice for most. However, it is a well known fact that Ferengi brains tend not to be as 'open' as most humanoids. It made the Betazoids seem Leary or uncomfortable with Qurick in the past despite his trying to be both open and honest as he could during the process. Though there is 'One' Betazoid that could read him like a book; had she been here it would have been more uncomfortable as she was a chief Helm Officer, but that is another story about an encounter with a 'Q' and irritating said being.
"I am glad you made the time for this meeting on short notice. I find important business appointments tend to take longer than most, do you not agree?"
“I do indeed” Sky nodded. “You’re right of course, about my not being able to read you. That’s not going to put me off talking to you though.” She smiled warmly.
"This is your business so you may ask of me whatever you like." Qurick said. "Though I do believe that a lot of your questions will be scripted as you do need to find out specific facts to decide if I am fit for duty? To not have proper SOP's; otherwise known as Standard Operating Procedures, would make consistency a matter of problems in how to judge the candidates?"
Sky smiled. You’ve certainly been doing your homework, but I tend to go about these sessions in my own way, rather than always going by the standard procedures. So let’s get started, how are you settling in?”
"I would say it is an on-going assessment as I have only just arrived and not had the time to really unpack and get my Office in a better manner for use." Qurick stated. "The personnel that I have encountered are professional and like a good man can smell profit in the wind I choose to hear the whispers of good tidings to come from my interactions with this crew." He explained. "I do require the initial meeting with Commander Doctrine to get a connection that will profit my endeavors in the future, but I do understand that she is a fine woo-man and very easy to work with. Am I correct from your impressions Counselor?"
Sky offered a smile. “Commander Doctrine is easy to work with, as for being a fine woman, that’s something for the men onboard to comment on. I take it you have no qualms with working with women? Most Ferengi consider women in clothing to be... unappealing.”
"Is a woo-man's clothing not an expression of her mood?" Qurick said calmly. "I have found that if one actually takes the time to observe the way Fee-males dress and adorn themselves is an art form." He almost chuckled. " It is my experiance that any woo-man that shares time with me and what efforts she took to dress for the time said volumes." He did chuckle.
"I like to think I am a type of connoisseur of fee-male fash-ions. The way a woo-mans dresses is a hint to her mood. I have also noticed that what she wears under the outer wrapping is a sheer expression of her mood from a normal day, or she might wear silken lingere to feel feminine, or maybe a red teddy to be a little sausy and if she wants to be attractive she might wear a wrap around dress that made her more alluring or even a shoort skirt with a hint of cleavage to assure that her desires might understood?" He shrugged. "I find it quite an interesting hooby of apprechiating how a woo-man adorns herself, sharing all the layers is a gift she gives and if all fee-males are exposaed it is... boring, nothing to discover or add to a sense of wonderment." He nod. "In a way it allows me to have more insight as to how a woo-man's mood is by how she is dressed and appropriate methods of interaction.
Looking to the counselor he found no other words to describe his not minding being around clothed women.
"I hope that shows I do not mind fee-males. I respect them as I was raised on Earth and my views are not tainted by Ferengi standards." He explained.
Sky smiled. “I appreciate your honesty, I don’t need to be a Betazoid to tell that was an honest and open answer. “So what was it like for you, being raised on Earth?”
Qurick shrugged a bit; not avoiding an answer but more trying to put a more diplomatic impression on his face.
"I was not Hue-mon, that was a bit harder, not many of them wanted to be regailed by wealth and I was not wanting any Fee-males to be forced to disrobe just because Fat-her did not share Earth viewpoint of clothing." He tried to keep the hurt off his face; it was a part of the past afterall. "I was smaller and ... thus not so strong and they took some advantages ." He shook his head. "Hue-mon nature for kids of that age." He did not make eye contact. Moogie was upset; she dressed many times to complain but was told that 'Boys be boys and all' so nothing to improve. She found a dojo that was open to 'Anyone' who would learn, by an actor and Martial Science practitioner who facus more on Art of Fighting without Fighting." He then glanced up. His teachings were more along lines of using mind first and then meeting violence only when needed . I learned the discipline well and it fit my size and nature well. I am pacifist, personal violence is not often profitable."
Again he shrugged.
"I was considered less than Hue 'Manly' and thus not a threat but like my Family just rung to be used for what they need and forgotten." He explained. "One time a Beautiful Girl who is a leader of cheering was kind to me. nothing but a kind heart in a young woo-man." He took a breath. Because she gave me 'daytime' ; as humans say, the Football Star insulted her for Lowering standards. I asked him to apologise. Noting he could say what he please about me, but 'She' was a kind and did not deserve insult."
Looking to Sky as he continued. "He stepped forward and pushed me, daring me to defend my views. I did not fully follow the Discipline of Grand Master Lee and used a technique, a famous '1-inch punch that put the Player on his ... rump. I told him not to do it again or I might lose my temper. " Almost pleading forgiveness from Sky. "I was truthful but maybe a bit over zealous as few Fee-males were notice of me. I admit she was attractive and that might have also been a factor for my impulsive behavior to defend a woman's honor." Shrugging. "I was young and these things are said to happen, Yes?"
Sky nodded. “They do, there’s nothing wrong with being impulsive when you know how far to take it. You could have done more harm than that but you didn’t. It doesn’t sound like you were treated very well, as you said boys will be boys, but being on the end of it can hurt a lot, and have repercussions for the rest of your life.”
"I did get a girl-friend out of it." He smiled. "It seemed chivalry is not dead and Stacy thought me very brave to stand up for her honour. She had been avoiding dating that Jock and my little stunt made it clear to him she is not interested as I got more attention and a date to Winter Dance, Hawkings Sadie dance and Summer formals." He blushed. "I did not do it for profit but I did in the end as she cared about herself and anyone who cared about her was good in her book."
Sky smiled. “It seems you profited quite nicely even though it wasn’t intended. I’m glad it turned out well for you.”
"Fate looked upon me with Kindness, though I have found the Hue-Mon Lady Luck is most enticing and I try not to provoke her; if she exists that is." Qurick stated. "I have noticed that you take care with your appearance, that shows that you take care of yourself." He complemented. "Thus it is that you also take care of others well if I might note?"
“Thank you Qurick” Sky smiled a warmer smile. “Like most women I take pride in my appearance. So...” she put down her PADD. “Do you have any specific questions for me?”
"I think you have allowed more profit to be lost by asking that very question. "You are signalling the end of a conversation of sorts, yes?"
“Not necessarily” Sky offered a smile. “I was just wondering if you had any particular questions you’d like answered.”
Qurick pondered that for a moment.
"Do you have a taste for Vulcan teas?" Qurick asked. "I have blends and no one to just chit chat with as yet. " HE continued. "If we could speak off the records as my duty has a clearance I find that having social time to just allow my nerves and brain to ... drain. Helps and I am told you are social outside of the office eand I know I can talk with you with some comfort?" Nodding. "I have some that you could keep around your office and if I wondered in on a lunch break could we... chatabout non-essential things, friendly conversations?"
Sky smiled warmly. “I haven’t tried that many Vulcan teas, but those I have tried were okay. I think I’d like to get together for a lunch break chat, on days when I’m available of course. Just let me know when.” She looked at her PADD. “I think we’ve covered just about all I need to cover for now.”
"Thank you Counselor." Qurick rose and hesitated. "Would personal issues be for a later session?" He asked with reluctance. "You are the only qualified person on this ship to help with a ... dilemma I have." He look sky in the eyes. "I miss my Imzadi ..."
“You can talk about whatever you like right now Qurick.” Sky offered a comforting smile. “Tell me about her.”
"She is obviously Betazoid, like you of Pure breeding." He sat back down. I miss that she knows me like no other will." He chuckled a bit nervously. "She can read me like a book, quite literally as we have a Im-za-di connection as one would have with a hue-mon." He look up. "She can read my emotions like any other hue-manoid."
Sky nodded. “That’s how the bond works between Imzadi’s, we feel each other in a connection little understood by others. “To be honest, I don’t completely understand how you and your Imzadi made a connection. Given the fact that we Betazoids can’t sense Ferengi.” She paused. “May I ask where your Imzadi is?”
"The Chief Helm USS Tokyo." He says. "Chief Helm Officer, it was a billet after we were separated when our vessel was ... destroyed. A rush to reassigned despite our requests to be together."
“That’s the problem with Starfleet, lovers end up separated. Have you both spoken to Starfleet again, to try and get her transferred here?”
With the threat of War , she is on a fast track to command, where she is is best for her promotion." Qurick said. "We tried the rarity of Imzadi to a Fereengi, as I understand is not normally possible, but then that is another longer story I am afraid."
“One I’d very much like to hear” Sky smiled. “As you said your being Imzadi to a Betazoid is completely unheard of. I’d like to hear how it came about.”
"It started out as a cruel joke up-on me by a 'Q' after an encounter. It seems those be-ings take every-thing badly." He took a breath. Imzadi hated me, for no good reason other then I am a Ferengi; a people she did not trustor they had hurt her in Business. "I am not what is referred to as typical and with no Latinum Profits I 'Am not a Ferengi at all..." He quoted part of the rules. "Well that was what happened. I compared a Q's reaction to being envious of Hue-mon capability to be courteous to even the likes of a Q." He shook his head. "Bad business practice on the part of the 'Q'..." He paused.
Sky nodded as she listened, her expression one of interest and curiosity.
'You know how much it takes to maintain Hair into anything of a Business fashion?" He glanced up to Sky. "You are Fee-male and your hair is stunning, of course you know." He commented. "You envy Humans so much you can be one...' The damned 'Q' snapped his fingers and thus I was Hue-mon." Again a tone change towards irritation. "He could have at least made me an average Male height but he just made my anatomy Hue-mon." He shrugged. "I was told I 'cut a handsome face' and Imzadi found me attractive so she suddenly could read me like one does normally." He shrugged. "I like things that are Hue-mon as I was raised on Earth and Imzadi is very beautiful.
He took a second to think.
"Imzadi is a person with secrets and thus alluring about her past, she also found that I did not really care ; she offered a massage and I accepted." He grinned to himself. "Never turn down a chance to be pampered by a Fee-male you know. " Looking suddenly up. "Intimacies are a gift Fee-males give and should be treasured for what they are.. Yes?"
Sky nodded. “Yes, indeed. Intimacies are something to be treasured, not to be used or abused.”
"Imzadi liked my Pampering .. habit as I am softer in the heart than some, I suppose the infleunces from being Basically born on Hue-mon ground and raised? Imzadi is of higher rank in Betazoid houses, She was not aware I knew that, I was very close to the Intel department naturally and they gave me some 'insights' after we started to be attracted."
He explained after a sigh.
"Well she is very beautiful and when Moogie taunted her as not being proper for me as no one would understand the no clothing around a Ferngi male..." He looked up. "Which I-I am not opposed to fee-males being clothed , it is an expression of a Fee-males mood in her appearance." He added quickly. "But Imzadi shed her clothing right then and there to show she is not ashamed of being.. naked. Moogie did not know how unashamed Betazoid are of the natural state of a body." he shrugged, it was at that point I found her so accepting of me that she would do that to my Moogie to show she cared for My heritage even if I am not a strict practitioner of it." That might be when this Imzadi connection started to solidify into... the Imzadi thing."
“So how long did Q leave you as a Human before reverting you back to Ferengi?” Sky looked at Qurick curiously. “Did it affect your connection with your Imzadi?”
"Six months, three weeks and twenty two days." Qurick rattled off. The humor must have worn off as the 'Q' restored me to my original form. I really had a deep fear that Imzadi would not like me in my normal form, but by then the Connection was established and... she still reads me like one does a book." He chuckled. "It was nice having someone that would know more than the Ferengi everyone sees. In tthat I miss being a Hue-mon a bit." He slowly shook his head. Except for the Hair, I do not miss..." He looked up what does Disheveled mean, Imzadi always said that of the hair when I had it."
Sky grinned. “Disheveled more or less means looking messy and unkept. When you’re not used to having hair it must be difficult to take care of. How regularly do you, and your Imzadi have contact? It must be difficult over subspace communication, and with the threat of war looming it may become few and far between.”
"That is difficult considering she is no longer able to communicate, her vessel is suspected to have been attacked and presumed lost. Not sure who but a snap Distress beacon quickly stiffled and nothing since." He looked up. "I still feel her, is that normal?"
Sky nodded. “It’s a good sign. Even though there’s distance between you, the bond would tell you if something disastrous had happened to her. She must still be alive, somewhere. Have you tried contacting Starfleet for an update?”
"I am a Strat OPS officer, I live for updates...none." Qurick confirmed. "I feel guity for being attracted to a fee-male in a pretty dress with proper makeup and accessorized in such a subtle but sparkling fashion statement."
Sky smiled. “You’re a male Qurick, it’s something that happens to men all the time. Maybe not so much in Ferengi tradition, but as you’ve been Human, it happens a lot to Human males.”
"I suppose you are correct." Qurick reply solemly. "I am sure one day I will be able to not feel guilt for admiring how a fee-male adorns herself?"
“There is nothing for you to feel guilty for” Sky smiled warmly. “You are who you are Qurick, you don’t need to be a model Ferengi. In my personal opinion, I much prefer you as you are compared to any other Ferengi.”
"I thank you for the complement." Qurick replied. "It was a pleasure talking to you, but I should possibly get back to the business at hand." He rose from his chair.
“Of course” Sky nodded. “Thank you Qurick, if you should need to talk my door is always open.”
